Those picks weren't going to be Hakeem before he traded for them. So stupid to take future value into account when discussing a current deal. It should matter if those picks could be Hakeem when he gets them. That's the entire point of picks, who they could be. That's why you don't trade your future picks if at all possible, because if you need to get them back everyone knows how much more valuable they are to one person than the rest of the league.

I think lots of GMs overreact to this kind of trade. These are necessary for teams to rebuild well. Sure greg could wait for a better deal, or try and haggle more out of J but in the end this deal is fine. Look at Plays run for MJ. It came up short because he couldnt dump his players and get worse.
If Greg can dump everyone of value and can end up with even just 2 of Malone/Barkley/Stockton/Hakeem/Ewing then this deal is awesome.
