1) The race for Michael Jordan is on. Which team do you think will have the worst record at the end of this season?
Jordan: The Hawks appear to be the least talented team in the league right now. Moore and Moncrief have nice ratings but are not impressive at all. I think they will most likely have the worst record at the seasons end. The Bobcats, Grizzlies, and Jazz will be in the conversation though. The Bobcats need to move D'Antoni and the Jazz need to move Gondrezick. The Grizzlies can't move the talent they have so not ACing or RCing guys until after the season is over is all they can do to help themselves.
Aar: The Bucks, mark my words. I'll do my damnedest. Really though, it'll be the 76ers. Their team is awful.
2) The Heat just traded their 59 and 60 1st rounders, much to the chagrin of the rest of the league, who are getting defensive about 1sts being traded so far into the future. Should a five season rule be implemented? (For example: The Heat would only be allowed to trade picks up to the year 2054)
Jordan: I would not be in favor of limiting a teams ability to move future 1sts. I will admit something needs to be done though. The Grizzlies, 76ers, Suns, and Hornets are all examples of GMs doing a terrible job and then moving too many picks. This has resulted in the franchising taking a very long time to repair. However, I do not want to limit the ability to trade future picks for a two primary reasons. First, it is one strategy that has existed for a long time in BBS is moving distant picks for instant success. Good GMs can be successful with this (although Habes has struggled as of late, but he is still going to make the CY). Second, I think the 5 year rule would make trading more difficult than it already is. Anytime a team is going to trade one stud, it doesn't want picks in the near future because of the likelihood the other team will be successful for the next several seasons with the talent they just acquired. This will only make trading veteran talent even less attractive and more likely to fetch less value than before. A hard line rule like not moving picks 5 years in the future may make the most sense, but I would prefer to give Spence some sort of veto power on trades so he can prevent franchising becoming entirely destroyed. Unfortunately, this will also cause GMs to be upset and/or quit.
Aar: There absolutely needs to be a rule implemented. Teams like the Hornets and Heat are in absolutely awful shape. Both teams can push to make the playoffs for a few years, but beyond that, they don't have anything going for them.
3) Pistons and Raptors are in their CY, do both make it?
Jordan: I think so. The Pistons have not played well thus far, but will greatly improve once they are healthy again. I think they have the talent to make it with Ray back.
With the recent trades, the Raptors should also be good enough to make it.
Aar: I think that unless Brooklyn makes a real effort to tank that the Pistons will be on the outside looking in at the end of the season.
4) MJ is obviously the prize in this year's draft, but if you had the unfortunate situation of ending up with the 2nd overall pick, who would you take?
Jordan: I think I would take Orlando Woolridge PF 6'9'' 215 21 A- C+ C- C C A with the second pick. There are a few other names that should be considered, but Woolridge has better ratings than Bernard King as a rookie and King is one of the best players in the league. I draft Woolridge to play SF and not PF though.
Aar: Buck Williams PF 6'8'' 215 21 B C D B A- A would be my pick. Just has no glaring weaknesses. Sure it's a safe pick, but I'd ride with him second overall.
5) Articles have seemingly tapered off this season. Do you think that the two interview article rule is the culprit and do you wish that there were more articles?
Jordan: I don't really care if there are more articles or not. I don't read a lot of them, and I doubt most GMs read them. It is also nice to not get PMs every 20 minutes telling you to vote on some article. I do think an interview cap was needed. First of all, it gives teams too much of a competitive advantage. Second, no one cares hearing that much about what one GM has to say.
Aar: The interview rule is definitely the culprit, but I'm not necessarily sure it's a bad thing. Personally, I love reading articles, but if every GM was involved in two per season, there would be 30+ interviews to read. I just think that GMs need to get more involved.
6) If you could implement something new to BBS that would add excitement to the league, what would it be?
Jordan: I don't know what you can add to make the league more exciting. I've always thought that adding a regular season injury rule would make sense. I would limit it to players that are injured for 5 days or less. This would keep teams from playing half a sim with injuries in their DC. It would also cut back on all the posts unused RCs sitting around.
Aar: I like the idea of having a free agent auction after Days 4-5. If there's a draft steal like a Tom Mokeski, Spencer should determine the best of the leftovers and open up an auction to see what people would give up to claim them. Whoever is willing to give up the most, whether it's a one year max deal if you have cap or a 1st rounder, would end up getting to claim them.
7) The Magic, Lakers, Blazers and Celtics are all fighting for the league's best regular season record. Who will end up with it?
Jordan: Probably the Magic. They have a complete team that is probably built for general success against any other team. In my opinion, the other teams aren't as well rounded.
Aar: I'm going with the Blazers. They have such a strong team.
8) Bingo Smith still looks absolutely awesome. What age do you think he'll be when he retires?
Jordan: His contract ends when he is 38 so I would say he will retire when he is 38. As for being absolutely awesome, Bingo still is great, but his numbers are down across the board this year.
Aar: I'm going out on a limb. 44 years old. Think about Gerald Wallace and his skill set. Bingo is the closest that we've seen. He's going to be around for awhile.
9) Bingo has a long-term contract that a lot of GMs aren't fond of, but who do you think has the league's worst contract?
Jordan: That really depends on a teams situation. Unless you are a team who can seriously contend or win a title in next 2 or 3 seasons, Bingo is probably the worst contract. The benefit of adding Bingo now and not winning it all is not worth the burden of having over 1/3 of your cap committed to him in a few seasons.
Note this can also be applied to KAJ or Elvin Hayes as well.
If you can contend right now and Bingo would make sense (I'd say this is true for maybe 6 teams in the league and few if any have the cap to make the trade), then John Drew or Fred Carter is probably it. They do little to help a team win are signed to 3+ year expensive contracts.
From recent trade talks, I know plenty aren't too interested in Andre McCarter's contract either so he should be mentioned.
Aar: Very well thought out answer, however, mine is an easy pick. Billy Knight, three years and $34,773,300 remaining. He is absolutely untradeable. When he was signed, he was actually somewhat worth it, but he's died in TC.
10) Who do you think is the most underrated player in the league right now?
Jordan: Wil Jones has been underrated for a few seasons. He was as close to Dr. J light as anyone else in the league.
Foots Walker is probably a top 25 or 30 player and never gets brought up too much either
Aar: I was going to go with Foots Walker as well. He's an incredible point guard and made the All-Star game, but absolutely nobody talks about him.
