1) Were you surprised the Blazers took the ring this year? How impressive was their run?
Nanz: Not surprised but maybe a little at the fact that they did it in 5 games. That team was off to a slow start last season and they caught fire. Very good team with KAJ leading the way. I thought the Celtics would put up a better fight but the Blazers proved to be the best team last year by far.
Aar: I wasn't surprised. The Blazers and Celtics were the two best teams going into this season, so it's not surprising in the least. The Blazers dominated and it just goes to show that people were correct in their assessment of GAME handing him KAJ on a silver platter. Don't get your back up Broph, every now and then, GMs get the better of inferior GMs and it's well within the rules of the league.
2) What were your thoughts on the CY teams' performances last year? What do they do going forward?
Nanz: Man I've never seen 3 team be sooo close to not making it. I thought Outlaws with Bird and a full rebuild would make more noise but he never seemed to make the right move. He needs to do a better job surrounding Bird with solid talent but i don't know if he has the assets and time to do it. HF shouldn't have made it with 41 wins.... yeah injuries my ass. When you are on your CY you can't let yourself be at the mercy of injuries. Moving forward there is nothing to do but rebuild. That team smells. The mavs to me have some nice pieces and it sucks to see Greg, a long time GM, go but again you can't leave anything to chance in your CY. Larry people say is a solid GM so lets hope he rebuilds and puts together a good team in a few years. Greg needs to get back soon though for sure.
Aar: The sad thing about it is that the Mavs really should have been able to avoid getting CY'd. He's a decent GM and had a good team assembled. He obviously held onto Moses for too long and he admitted that. HF's team wasn't impressive, but they squeaked by and Outlawz had it easy with Bird and a good supporting cast.
Going forward, the Heat are in a bit of trouble because they don't have their picks. The Suns are in decent shape, but could stand to improve and the Mavs should do whatever it takes to rebuild, their team is entirely mediocre.
3) The Bucks have completely dismantled their team in favor of acquiring picks. Do you like this strategy or should they hang onto some of their youth?
Nanz: I always like to keep some youth if its worth keeping but it seems Aar did the right thing in getting rid of some of that "not so sure" youth for I think he said 26 picks? Thats crazy. When you have that many firsts you are bound to get some gold ones and also have enough to get a super stud on picks alone. Good plan by Aar going after all these picks to start off his rebuild... he'll get his own stud thru the draft.
Aar: It's actually now 28 picks and I'm thrilled with what I've ended up with so far. I was considering Nimphius with the fifth pick and he fell to me at 13. I am really high on Andrew Toney aside from his rebounding and Rick Mahorn will be the next Kermit Washington potentially.
I know that my team's time isn't now, so I'm doing something that I'm not used to, which is slow playing it until I land a big fish FA or it's my CY and I need to trade off my young assets.
4) What are the Nets plans going forward and ideally, what do you hope that your team accomplishes over the next few years?
Nanz: Man we are in a tough spot. We recently got The Boss Boswell which i like a lot at the price we got him for. Ray-Rich is beasting and i think he still has another good TC in him. The +5 to his handles has been HOT. Theus is still young enough for me to think and that he can be astud one day with some ACs. The rest is well meh. Summer is here so i don't mind being just mediocre for a few seasons than to give some FOO something good for my picks when i have the power to make them non-lottos. I'll ride it out until i get my backs... who knows maybe one good trade or TC or FA and we can be back in business. I know i'm a good enough GM to make these picks non-lottos.
Aar: It's safe to say that your team is essentially handcuffed by Barnett. You need to have the perfect storm of TC luck to make this work and I doubt it happens. Once Barnett expires, you can see where Theus and MRR are in terms of their output and you can go back to the drawing board. For now, you sort of have to ride it out.
5) Michael Ray Richardson's value has skyrocketed since last year, where do you think he ranks in terms of point guards in BBS?
Nanz: BOY OH BOY! MY BOY RAY-RICH! Not sure where he ranks among point guards right now after just this season but man i love this guy. He can do 20 points 6 rebounds 12+ assists which is HOT Oh and YEAH 2.5 steals and 2 Blocks? That is crazy. Like i said before the +5 to his handles was really good for him and I know he can still get better thru some TCs. Back to the question... There's Magic (SF but yeah) and Money.... after that who knows I'd like to make an argument for ma BOY.
Aar: I think that Mengelt might still be a little bit better, but his value is nowhere near as high. I also think that Bernie Fryer and MRR are pretty close value-wise. I knew that he'd be good when I traded him to you, but not THIS good. That said, I regret nothing.
6) There hasn't been a blockbuster in awhile, which big name do you think is the next to be on the move?
Nanz: I think there has been a bunch last season! You alone had a couple! LOL Carr was moved twice which is nutty! Barnes was ALSO moved twice by you and Repole. Those 2 names alone are enough blockbuster for a year.
This upcoming season we can expect some big trades with the Mavs maybe Moses? New GM needs to put his stamp on that team.
Aar: I think that the Moses prediction is a good one. Another guy who I think will be moved is Bill Walton. He's overstayed his welcome in Indiana. Another player who I have a gut feeling will be moved is Bobby Jones. Don't ask my why.
7) The Magic had the best record in the East and still have a ton of great picks. Is another Repole dynasty on the horizon?
Nanz: Meh.. NVL and Barry are old and oh yeah theres Magic and the Celtics LOL. He has a ton of picks to make more trades and get a stud but not for my PICKS! I'm not trading him a top notch player like RayRich for them so yeah lol. They have a good team for sure and they have a ton of young talent but not dynasty worth. They have a shot to win but i wouldn't say a dynasty. Oh i just remembered they have the NOH picks LOL damn Kobe sucks lol maybe he gets back to back to back 1st overall picks... damn then we can get talking about a dynasty.
Aar: The answer, for me, is an emphatic yes. Look at the assets that he has in the bank and forget about NVL and Barry. Eaton, Short, Robey, Tyler, Copeland are all solid pieces who will get better, but more importantly, three Thunder 1sts and four Hornets 1sts. Those assets could end up being unreal. If Repole remains patient, he'll have an incredible team.
8) Which team impressed you the most last season?
Nanz: Magic. Best overall record in the East? Thats pretty crazy. We didn't expect them to compete at this level but they ended up tied for the best record in the league. Eaton is such a beast with those damn blocks. Short and Tyler play damn well and they all fit together so nicely. NVL and Barry still have it and they have solid depth. I didn't think they would be that good but like repole has said it before, these guys fit together very nicely and when you click you click.
Aar: The Clippers. They have such an unimpressive roster and they made the most of it. Haywood was awesome and Bristow and Buse put up huge numbers. Nobody pays attention to their team, but they have great chemistry and underrated players.
9) The Thunder were very stubborn when it came to getting their picks back. Should he have tried harder to get them back?
Nanz: LOL yeah. My boy big air has a job and he should have done everything possible to get his picks back while he was working to be able to tank before getting back to school. That would have worked perfectly! Just like him though, we all have egos and hey look at me! I'm not trading for my picks back! FUCK THAT! But yeah probably should have traded Meng for his picks back lol.
Aar: I really think that he should have. You can tell that he's barely hanging onto interest in the league. He had a chance to get all of his future picks back and didn't even express a single inkling of interest.
10) Did Spencer do the right thing by trading off the Cavaliers' assets?
Nanz: LOL theres no right answer here. No mainly because its Marty LOL. If those assets turn out to be good no credit will go to Marty which has happened before LOL. AND those assets are now Fred Brown so like LOL
Aar: The Cavs are sort of going in circles now. They won't be a true contender, but they'll likely get 50 wins. He's definitely improved the team, I'll say that.
Nanz: Not surprised but maybe a little at the fact that they did it in 5 games. That team was off to a slow start last season and they caught fire. Very good team with KAJ leading the way. I thought the Celtics would put up a better fight but the Blazers proved to be the best team last year by far.
