Definitely a very deep draft. A bunch of no risk players and a lot of interesting ones. Really hard draft to predict also because a lot of it has to do with personal preferences. Big Bill looks to go first but the picks of Mel Daniels and Jack Sikma might scare off some gms. Especially with Sidney breathing down his neck for first pick. It also wouldn't shock me if certain block crazy gms took Eaton first.
1. Orlando Magic (from Memphis Grizzlies) - Bill Laimbeer C 6'11'' 245 22 B B+ D+ B B+ A
Repole loves outside shooting bigs. He is probably already thinking how to ac him. Big time scorer. He can score from everywhere. A very good rebounder. Won't get the blocks but is a very good post defender and should get some steals. Won't turn the ball over a lot. Can't be moved to sf and low blocks are the only negatives but you have to think that getting rcd/acd to start his career could make him an all star in year 1.
2. Washington Wizards - Sidney Moncrief SG 6'3'' 185 22 B B B A- C+ B
Meh. Sucks for them that there is no pg worthy of being picked at this point. Eaton is a better fit also but I would still go with Sid. His only drawback is his handling. He will also have to improve his 3 pt shot to become a star in this league and he might not have enough upside. Still, he can get some steals, maybe even a block at SG, and is a good rebounder.
3. Philadelphia 76ers - Mark Eaton C 7'4'' 275 22 C+ C- D+ A- B B
A great piece for Philly bc he won't affect future tanking but will be a major piece in a future winning team. Stud shotblocker and post defender. His rebounding will get there also and he seems like a non-liability type on offense.
4. Toronto Raptors - Cliff Robinson PF 6'9'' 220 19 B C+ C- C+ C+ A
Now the draft gets tricky.I like Calvin more but not by much and the Raps have Mitchell. He could be an all around stud. But he could bust. He is young and has upside. Will his rebounding get there? Handles are a question and a block a game isn't great for a big. Might end up being a sf.
5. Phoenix Suns - Calvin Natt SF 6'6'' 220 22 B+ C C B C A
I like Calvin. He is a very good inside scorer with elite handles and quickness. His negatives are chucking up 3s and not being a stats defender. He is a solid defender and looks pretty solid all around. Maybe Sonny Parker? Don't get me wrong I like Sonny but I would like somebody better at 5.
6. Dallas Mavericks - Sly Williams SF 6'7'' 210 21 B+ C C A- C+ B
Eh. Will he be another Mickey davis/ Ollie Johnson type? Nice ratings but will he be a good player or just never live up to his ratings. His notes say good all around. On the other hand he has a handling problem and he isn't a good jump shooter. Good rebounder, defender who should get steals.
7. Miami Heat - James Donaldson C 7'2'' 275 22 B C- D- B- B- A
Dallas would like a pg or a sf here but they might as well go bpa instead of reaching for Johnny Moore. He does everything, maybe nothing great but everything well. If he develops well he could be very good. Strong and unathletic. He will be good.
8. Boston Celtics (from Indiana Pacers) - Clint Richardson SG 6'3'' 195 23 B- B B- A- C B
Swift is getting older and Richardson could turn into a solid starter. Billed as a poor mans Moncrief that could start right away. He is quick and has a good jump shot. Solid defender and decent rebounder for a sg.
9. Detroit Pistons - Kurt Rambis PF 6'8'' 213 21 B C- C- B+ B B
Similar to Donaldson but a step behind and seemingly less upside. This pick will very likely be traded. Hopefully to me.
10. Houston Rockets - Johnny Moore PG 6'1'' 175 21 B- C+ B B+ C B
They have youth at every other position so they will take a shot. Doesn't have a good 3 pt shot but he can score inside and from midrange. He is a solid ball handler with very good quickness. A good rebounder for a pg and will get a ton of steals.
11. Orlando Magic - Larry Smith C 6'8'' 215 21 B D+ D+ B+ A B
I love this guy. Not a shotblocker which knocks him down draft lists but he steals and is a great post defender. His strength is rebounding. He will be a decent scorer though too bad that he can't hit a free throw. He is a good ball handler.
12. Orlando Magic (from OKC) - Jim Paxson SG 6'6'' 200 22 C+ A C C C- B
Paxson is a stretch here but he is a great outside shooter/good handles guy who Repole seems to love. I could see him backing up the 1/2 for Repole.
13.Utah Jazz- Dave Greenwood PF 6'9'' 222 22 B C C- C+ B B
Another all around big. The question is how much he will improve. He is a solid inside and midrange scorer. Rebounding? Check. Handles? Good. Post d? solid. Strength? Like an ox.
14. Charles Jones PF 6'9'' 215 22 C+ C- D+ A- C+ B
