I probably missed a few guys, especially in the role players department, but could only go so far there.
The Elite
Bill Walton C 6'11'' 210 26 B C- B- A- A- B Pacers
Projected Salary: MAX
Comments: Walton's had a bit of an up and down career, with last year's TC being particularly disappointing, but there's no denying that he's still a MAX caliber player. The blocks and rebounds alone would probably convince someone to MAX him, and the fact that he's at least not a major liability on offense means most GMs out there won't hesitate in throwing the MAX at him. Unfortuantely for Biggie, he'll have to do the same to keep him, and risk that he becomes a pretty bad contract eventually.
Eric Money PG 6'0'' 170 23 B+ A A+ A- C A Lakers
Projected Salary: MAX
Comments: The easiest decision in FA, if you have cap and aren't MAXing Money you're out of your mind. His prodocution hasn't quite been dominant yet, but he's only 23 and likely still has upside, so it's hard to think he won't eventually be a top two point guard. The shooting percentages could be a bit higher, and the turnovers a bit lower, but other than that he's damned near perfect. Would be an absolute disaster for Styro if he walked.
Quality Starters
Foots Walker PG 6'0'' 172 27 C+ A- A- B+ C C 76ers
Salary: 11-MAX, 4-6 years
Comments: He shoots nice percentages, gets steals, rebounds, and isn't brutal with the turnovers. There's a lot to like about Foots, and while he's not elite, he's an above average starting PG, and these days that commands pretty big money.
Andre McCarter PG 6'3'' 190 25 C+ A- A- A- D C Hornets
Salary: 10-MAX, 4-6 years
Comments: I'm not sure with McCarter, he has solid looking ratings and nice production, but I think you have to expect him to have upside left to offer him a big deal. MAX would be a mistake, but it wouldn't shock me to see someone do it. The low turnovers are great, the steals are great, but the rebounding is awful and the scoring is average. He's an average to mildly above average starting PG, in this market, who knows how much that gets him.
Don Buse PG 6'4'' 190 28 C+ A- B- B D+ C Bucks
Salary: 10-MAX, 3-6 years
Comments: Buse was rock solid for the Bucks, serving as a great third option alongside Bingo. Low turnovers, good steals, nice percentages, and solid volume. The only thing not to love is the lack of rebounding, and you can question the positional defense but Skillz claims it's higher perimeter and low drive so that's nice if true. Aar pretty desperately needs to keep him on the roster.
Elvin Hayes C 6'9'' 235 32 B+ C D+ A+ A C Bobcats
Projected Salary: MAX, 4-6 years
Comments: Still one of the best bigs in the league, the only thing that prevents Hayes from being in the previous section is his age. He can do it all from the C or PF position, so any team looking to win should be MAXing him. It'll be interesting to see how many teams with cap that are still in tank mode offer him big cash hoping to trade him, as guys older than 30 on big contracts tend to have iffy value.
Gar Heard PF 6'6'' 219 30 B- C C A- A- C Nuggets
Projected Salary: 6-10 mill, 3-4 years
Comments: A key cog in the Nuggets championship run off the bench, Heard provides excellent defense and rebounding, without hurting a team on the offensive end. To me, he's easily a starting caliber PF, and I think a lot of teams would benefit from having a presence like him on the inside. We'll see if Greeme is willing to do what it takes to keep him, or if someone overpays for Heard.
Earl Monroe SG 6'3'' 185 33 B+ A C+ B+ C D Timberwolves
Projected Salary: MAX, 3 years
Comments: Monroe's getting older, but he's still one of the better SGs out there, as he doesn't really have any weaknesses. His percentages were down a bit last year, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him rebound a bit. Keeping him is huge for GAME, otherwise he may be in need of his picks back sooner rather than later.
Role Players
Bob Love SF 6'8'' 215 35 A- C C- A- C+ D 76ers
Projected Salary: 4.5-7 mill, 2-3 years
Comments: Run an inside offense and need some efficient points? Bob Love's still your guy, even at 35. If he can survive another TC that is. The producton is still there though, and he'd make a nice addition for a lot of inside based teams.
Gail Goodrich SG 6'1'' 170 35 B+ A B- B D C 76ers
Projected Salary: 4.5-7 mill, 2-3 years
Comments: Gail is still an awesome scorer, thoguh he didn't really get the minutes last year to prove it. The rebounding hurts, and the turnovers are a bit painful but are mostly made up for with steals. In terms of putting up points though, Gail does so as efficiently as anyone.
Jack Marin SF 6'7'' 200 34 B+ B+ C A- C D Wizards
Projected Salary: MLE
Comments: If you need a role player who scores efficiently and defends, Marin is your guy. The Wizards are unlikely to try and keep him, so you can probably pick him up for the MLE
Randy Smith SG 6'3'' 180 29 B- A- B+ A+ C C Pacers
Projected Salary: MLE-7 mill, 1 year
Comments: He doesn't really produce much, but he's a nice defender and his ratings look pretty. Biggie will probably give him a decent one year deal to keep him around, but he isn't even worth the MLE based on his production. Buyer beware.
Ron Boone SG 6'2'' 200 32 B+ A- C- A C+ D Hornets
Projected Salary: 4.5-6 mill, 1-2 years
Comments: Boone is still a decent scorer, albeit not an elite one, and can both defend and rebound. He's serve as a nice backup SF/SG for pretty much any team.
Wes Unseld SF 6'7'' 245 32 B C- C+ A- A- B Raptors
Projected Salary: 4.5-8 mill, 1-4 years
Comments: DJ will probably pay him a decent amount to keep him and then attempt to deal him off, but if for some reason he decides not to do that, Unseld would be a great MLE pick up for someone. The rebounding and defense would be a great asset for a number of teams off the bench, even if his offense has deteriorated.
Phil Jackson PF 6'8'' 220 33 B C C+ A B C Spurs
Projected Salary: 4.5-6 mill, 1-2 years
Comments: Phil can still play, I'm surprised the Spurs didn't give him more minutes. He's not a great scorer, but his free throw rate and percentage alone make him a pretty efficient one for a big guy, and his defense is excellent whether it be at C, PF, or SF. He'll be a nice role player for someone.
Rich Jones SF 6'6'' 220 31 B C+ C A+ B C Cavaliers
Projected Salary: 4.5 mill, 1-2 years
Comments: Jones had a nice season last year for the Cavs, putting up decent volume on nice percentages, all while rebounding the ball and playing top notch defense. The Cavs would be smart to make sure he's back in the fold next season, though overpaying him is asking for trouble.
Herm Gilliam SG 6'3'' 190 32 B A B B- C+ B Trail Blazers
Projected Salary: 4.5-7 mill, 1 year
Comments: I think this dude can still start on a mediocre team, though the turnovers are a bit concerning. He's a solid scorer and he rebounds, which at SG has value.
George Trapp SF 6'8'' 205 30 B C C- A- C+ C Bucks
Salary: 4.5-7 mill, 1-2 years
Comments: His value is probably pretty shot at this point due to not really putting up the same kind of numbers he had the past three seasons in Orlando, but there might be someone willing to gamble on him, and that wouldn't necessarily be a bad choice. Aar will likely keep him around as long as he can afford to.
Mel Daniels C 6'9'' 220 34 C+ B- D- C+ B- D Thunder
Salary: 4.5-6 mill, 1 year
Comments: He still blocks a ton of shots, rebounds, and isn't totally brutal on offense. More valuable than he appears.
Sleepers
Aaron James C 6'8'' 210 26 A- C C- C+ C+ C Knicks
Projected Salary: 5-6 mill, 3-5 years
Comments: I may be driving his price up (sorry Skillz), but this guy needs some attention. His scoring rate was ridiculous to go with his efficiency, and he rebounds a bit. Stick him at SF and watch the points rack up. Defense is an issue, but he'd make a great backup SF/PF/C in an inside offense, or starter if you have enough defense around him.
Jamaal Wilkes SG 6'6'' 190 25 B+ B+ C+ B C- C Trail Blazers
Projected Salary: 4.5-6 mill, 2-4 years
Comments: The Blazers may not offer him much due to having plenty of other talent that will demand money down the line, so there's a chance to pick up a guy who shot 48% and 90% from the line while putting up 19 a game a season ago. Might be a steal, or may never improve and not be worth much due to his lack of rebounding.
Phil Smith SG 6'4'' 185 26 B- B+ B+ A- C+ B Timberwolves
Projected Salary: 4.5-8 mill, 1-5 years
Comments: Phil's a hard guy to value. He rebounds the ball fairly well, plays nice defense, shoots decently, and isn't absurdly turnover prone. With all that said, he doesn't really do anything great. Still, there's the perception that he could have some upside left, which could cause someone to overpay. I expect GAME to offer him a decent sized deal to keep him around.
George Karl PG 6'2'' 185 27 C+ A- A- A- D+ C Raptors
Projected Salary: 5-8 mill, 3-5 years
Comments: Karl sort of came out of nowhere to have a solid year for the Raptors last season. He gets some steals, plays good defense, and can shoot the ball a bit. He's turnover prone, but not at an unfixable level, and he doesn't rebound, but you could do worse than Karl running the point for your team.
Mickey Johnson SF 6'10'' 190 26 B+ B C- A- B B Pistons
Projected Salary: 4.5-7 mill, 1-5 years
Comments: It's a bit hard to place a value on this guy, as he doesn't score efficiently and even turns the ball over a bit, but he can defend and rebound, and that always has value. He's probably better suited in an offense that doesn't expect him to score.
