You held on to your youth too long until they lost value. You struggled this your , though it seems that you will make your cy, and had to give up most of your valuable pieces. What went wrong?
We operated in the dead zone for way too long. I never tanked with this team and when we had the change, I either held onto a misguided ray of hope or just wasn't active enough. I traded Pistol for Irvine and my pick and then promptly made no moves to make that pick worth getting. Of course it ended up being Bob Wilkerson, but that's beyond the point. He's just a good draft pick for his slot, I needed great draft picks.
Also, as I mentioned earlier, I didn't trade my young guys early. After watching a few guys blow up the moment I let them go, I went the opposite route and ran them into the ground apparently.
You just traded Irvine, Wilkerson and the lakers pick for Denton. I really liked Wilkerson but Irvine didn't seem much different than guys you can get for around the mle and the lakers pick will just get worse. I personally would have gone for a more defensive minded big. Even before this trade you seemed to be able to make your cy. What was the thought process behind this trade?
I considered going for a more defensive minded center like Gene Moore, but settled on Denton because of his age, his lack of ACs, and him being signed past this season. May help in the trade market or be able to shine if we decide to rebuild immediately after the season. Grabbing more defense isn't out of the question yet, but I don't see a reason to sarcifice my future picks unless it's a deal I feel makes this team a contender. It'd have to be one hell of a deal.
This trade also officially unleashed the BosGuard, which is going swimmingly.
In the beginning of the year, you traded Phil smith and the 10th pick for Glock and anointed Glock your starting pg. Why trade for Mengelt once you had Glock when it seemed pretty obvious that either of them would take a hit at sg?
At no point during this season has Glock looked even remotely good enough that I wouldn't consider a deal for the best PG in the league using positions that, at the time, I had completely viable alternate options for. Crash is top 5 in the league and a large reason I have a shot at the CY (Bird and Magic too). Pretty obvious why I'd want him.
Why not flip Menglet for a big?
At this point, we actually have a lack of true wing options. A lot of forwards on the roster now. I'd actually consider moving Mengelt for a nice package of players, but teams only seem to be set on offering me their 3rd and 4th best players so they can complete some super team. No thank you.
Earth to Jay. Bos isn't that good at center. Why not give him a shot at sf?
Earth to Greeme, he's been playing SF for half the season and his statistics have been going up. He was a 15/10 big at C on great percentages, he just needs to be in a outside offense to be effective at the position. He's not too strong so it hurts him otherwise. The move to SF has allowed him to be matched with similarly strong players even if he may give up points on the perimeter. (ed note – Jay is ignoring the fact that I sent him my questions many sims ago)
This next sim we're actually going to try to see what he does at SG. The SG rule starts next year, might as well see if I can exploit it for my CY. I expect it to go poorly other than giving us a rebounding advantage.
You are 14-17 and in the 8th seed. Once Hayes comes back the Cats will pass you. That means you will have to beat out the Cavs, Heat or Pacers. Out of the 4 of you which is the odd team out?
The Heat, because they don't seem intent on making the playoffs. The Bobcats currently have an absentee GM, they aren't passing me at all. I honestly think we can finish higher than any of the teams you mentioned. I'm going to hope that having an elite PG, interior scoring, and a rebounding advantage with a big lineup works to our advantage.
It is generally frowned on if you move futures in your cy year. Do you have any plans to move your futures?
At 29-23, the only first I'd consider moving is my 2049 pick. No reason to jeopardize my future when it looks like I'm going to make my contract year. If something bad happens, of course i'll consider it. Or even if a great offer comes through. The rosters around the league seem to be set so I'd be surprised if we saw another big move from any of the top teams.
Any GMs that have been trying to rip you off constantly bc you are in your cy? Call them out and post their offers.
I get shitty offers for Mengelt all the time but that's just GMs throwing shitty offers to give shitty offers. And I say no. I think you've sent me some of your own. These PMs suck, but at least they are better than those dumb ass "vote for my article I vote back". Why are you putting the onus on me to write an article so you can "vote back". There is no way of proving you did vote, so I have to complete the cycle by sending you an annoying PM about voting for my article. Now we're stuck in a clusterfuck of worthless PMs begging that you make my automatic 5 article get the grade by 6pm instead of 8.(ed note – I offered dantoni, Kelley and mcmillian. Ed note2 – I hear ya on the pms. If everybody that said they voted for my articles actually did I would have 20 votes an article.)
Of course, you could not spam like Repole while doing an article that isn't at all an interview and get it ignored for a few days. So fuck.
Now it looks that the Hawks will make their cy but do so without a lot of assets. Bos's value is pretty low as is denton's. You do have Mengelt but he is really it I think for players with high trade value. What does the future hold for the Hawks? Will you try to compete for a few years or dump guys and rebuild?
Getting out of my contract year with assets would've been great, but it's not worth the risk of not getting out of my contract year at all. Players like Wilkerson and Bridgeman are doing the damn thing on their new teams, and that's fantastic. But is either worth the risk of getting fired? Not a chance.
In terms of what the future holds for this team, that is completely dependent on the trade market this offseason. With our picks we have the flexibility of immediately tearing down and actually rebuilding the right way this time. But I may try to stretch out a winning season to rebuild in time to catch a certain hometown PG that I'd love to have in this league.
I'm not too worried about Boswell or Denton's value. They are both young, both very capable of 20/10, and both haven't hit their ceiliings. Boswell in his young age and Denton with his 3 ACs left. They both have evident flaws but the trade market isn't only for perfect players, look at George McGinnis.
Any chance that you will steal a round in the playoffs?
There is a very good chance that we win a round in the playoffs if we can use our size to exploit matchups. Looking at the top of the East, none of the teams have deadly big men duos and that is where our depth lies. I believe we can use size and rebounding to knock some teams off of their games while Mengelt performs like the superstar he is. A vintage Glock performance could go a long way into sliding this team through the cracks of the playoffs to the conference finals. I've seen stranger things happen in this league.
The Bulls and Nets are the matchups I'd like to avoid in the playoffs. Any other team I'm confident we can give a competitive series.
Who will be in the semis, the finals and who will win?
Charlotte could make it if they had a GM that was around. They've played the least amount of home games in the East and Hayes has been out most of the season. But as it stands, I can't trust them. I'm going to take the Bulls and Bucks in the East and Denver and Utah in the West. I'll take Denver beating the Bucks in the Finals.(ed note - sounds good to me)
