I signed off last fri thinking your team was ok and came back sat night to see a dominant team. It took me awhile to figure out that you traded for Larry. Describe his effect on your team.
Nothing right now, I cant seem to get volume outta him with the other scorers. I think I have to get him back to SF, but that means playing Bobby at SG and I really didn’t like what I saw when I did that last time, though Bobby was fine the loss in blocks was pretty meh and I didn’t like his positional D. I recall that his D is better there because he is a better post defender than perimeter, but its been so long and I am too lazy to look back that far. Hell I could be completely wrong thinking about somebody else. Regardless though I have to find the DC, once I do that he should give me the top tier scoring I need. All he is right now is efficient and rebounds well for a wing.
After bashing Cliff Ray for years you maxed a poor man's Cliff Ray in Kermit. I assume that you are happy with the signing but why bash Cliff and then sign Kermit?
I bashed Cliff because he was in no way a poor mans kermit when he was signed, he was complete and utter shit since he couldn’t shoot an FT, his blocks were low (I maxed a 2.7 block Kermit remember) and he didn’t rebound amazingly. On the other hand, he has since developed into a player easily worth the contract, so yeah, I was wrong, but, the player he is now isn’t the player he was when he was maxed. As for Kermit, he is so efficient on offense, the difference in his and Ray’s Jump shot is probably around 7-10 points, and he doesn’t turn it over as much as Ray. PF’s are tough to come by right now, and Kermit is a very nice one right now…not to mention, next to Tree he is perfect, I don’t need the offense, but he is super efficient, he rebounds well to cover up for Trees deficiency and he is pretty obviously a great post defender, giving me two of those up front.
Are you going to try to make another move or are you set for the year? What type of move would you like to make, if any?
I wouldn’t mind making a move to upgrade on Kermit with Robinzine, get that last starter that’s sick, hell I spent most of the first sim and a half trying to get Game to give me KAJ. Tried to get Hayes as well, but in reality unless I feel the deal is perfect, Im not gonna do much. I do have to trade for Keye back, really like him as a SG/SF backup.
You seem that you might run into cap trouble next year. If both bobby and Wilkes ask for the max you will be right up against the hc and if you sign both you will have to replace the depth you get from Gilliam and Hoskett. Would you max Wilkes?
Lol at maxing Wilkes…when I offered for Larry I didn’t factor in Wilkes because if he doesn’t resign for cheap Im not gonna worry about him too much. On the other hand, and I’m probably inviting the jinx, but I get the feeling Bobby is gonna resign cheap, he just seems like with the ratings and play he may offer me a Sam Jones type move. I am completely willing to let Hosket walk, but, depth is easy to find right now for this team, so if Wilkes wants starter money Im not gonna worry, he was great last year, but, so far this year he has been shit.
Not only does Bobby Jones not seem to be progressing but he actually seems to be regressing. Any explanations? Unfavorable DC?
My trap and press settings, he isn’t going backwards, but, he has more players around him now to take some of that load off. He is still doing 2 steals and 2.5 blocks, his rebounding is at career high numbers. But being next to Tree, and with me not pressing at all so far this year for fouls, and him not spending anytime at SG it doesn’t shock me his steals are down. He is the perfect role playing SF, and probably a better scoring SG, but I don’t need either right now.
Win rating, greed and loyalty – do you think that they have any real effect and do you bother looking at them before drafting/trading?
Never do, I think in some way loyalty was implemented, but only for hometown, since that’s seemingly the only time you can ever change the team a guy signs with normally. Maybe Greed plays a part, maybe not but I don’t really know nor do I really care. In UOSLR I had a 100 loyalty Al Jeff leave me and 0 Loyalty’s stick around, so it doesn’t matter.
I love Landsberger. Just surprised me that you would go with a low block guy in the post. Is that bc you have Bobby at sf or is your block fetish being controlled chemically?
I hate playing guys without rebounding more than without blocking, you just wouldn’t note that. I played Kendall Rhine last year as a backup, and you would never catch me playing a C rebounder at backup PF/C for the blocks. It also helps that with Tree not being a great rebounder ratings wise and both my starting bigs being great post Defenders, having a stud rebounder and post/Perimeter Defender at the backup is nice.
Tree looks nice but it is hard to build a team around a center. The way I see it he has to get his volume, rebounding and fg% up to be elite. Do you agree and do you see it happening?
I think if I packed it inside right now Tree could do the volume you speak of, but it would be at the cost of my team. Ive always found building around bigs to be easier for me, and I prefer an inside offense…and I will probably try it at some point this year since I have a great record and my downfall has been not knowing what works come playoff time. The rebounding yes, I would like to see that come up, no doubt, but we are easily covering that, being at +7 rebounds per game right now. He never turns it over, he blocks shots, is a great rebounder, and with his AC he had 85+ inside despite a B inside rating, then in TC that inside rating went up. He is strong and makes his FT’s as well.
Marty claims that you and I are the most annoying posters in the league. How do you respond to that claim?
Its Marty, he would claim the sky is actually orange if he knew he could get a reaction. And maybe I do get overly argumentative at times. A bit of truth to each of his claims, though not full.
Which 2 teams are your biggest obstacles to making the finals? I really like the Lakers. They took a big hit with Goo going down though some of that has less to do with how good Goo is and more to do with how bad the replacements are. Fyi if the Nuggets aren't mentioned then this article isn't getting published. No pressure.
Definitely the Lakers, they crushed me first sim, but losing Goo was a big deal, he is a very very nice player, rebounding is tough to come by right now, though his D is killing him, but, he can score if needed as a non option, and rebounding rebounding rebounding. Money is a sick PG now, Kenon is efficient, and with Goo back well yeah. I have no fear of Lanier but he is playing extremely well right now. But seriously, elite PG’s in the playoffs like Money are scary, since I don’t have an elite PG, not to mention they could very well be a 4 or 5 or 8 seed by the end of the season with Goo being gone all year. And yes, it’s the Nuggets for the other one, I tried to act like it wasn’t, but, Skeeter attacking the perimeter, depth, defense and it appears just as much rebounding. D’antoni looks nice, and should be an upgrade, but you do have a very large disadvantage..you turn the ball over a lot, something my team doesn’t do at all, and with the steals cranked up (Bobby/Kermit/Jones are great steals guys when I press), that would be a big issue…especially the two blegh handles bigs. I wanted to mention Jah’s team, but then I look at the roster and I cant help but think blegh
Who is getting this ac?
As of now I have no clue, I wanna put it to Robinzine, see if he isn’t close to A- A scoring, or I could go strength and maybe get him to B- rebounding. Or Bobby’s strength, or (and this is right now the way I lean) Bernie Fryers Jump Shot to get that A outside back. He is performing far better this year despite the ratings hit though, so Im not quite sure.
Repole has gone on record saying that jumping matters just for the dunk contest, assists don't affect the game at all bc of the way they are calculated and drive defense means nothing at all. Do you agree ?
99% with everything you said repole said, but, the part about jumping mattering just for the dunk contest isn’t a true statement, its just, while Jumping does have an effect, the effect is far far less pronounced than pretty much anything you can camp. It has an effect, its just you are far better off being better in other categories and bad there because the effect is small and not worthwhile. (ed note - repole didnt actually say that i was paraphrasing with broad literary license)
Bucks-Blazers finals? I have a feeling that Bingo won't get there this year?
I think trading off Willie, then dealing off Cowens was a mistake for the Bucks…Bingo has a weakness, he isn’t a stud rebounding PF, and Cowens was a stud. LaMaris pretty bleghh right now defensively, and I think having Cowens was a better fit…far better. There really wasn’t a need for Rudy, you have Bingo, and he operated with far less scoring when he played in Orlando…its what worked, why mess with that. On the other hand, its still Bingo, and I cant pick against him. Play has Dickey, who might be best suited to match up with him, but the East is so so so so so so so so weak right now, I just dunno who would knock him off The Nets offense is blegh (NVL has tanked his efficiency), the Bulls…well the Bulls are easily the best shot, but its Bingo
Any gms you want to call out for stuff they do/don't do?
Yeah, sure, why not. WHY THE FUCK DID EVERYBODY WANT WILKES NOT ROBINZINE…..kept offering either or and they all kept wanting Wilkes…both had gone +6, Robinzine in fewer TC’s and better ratings I mean what the hell? Game decided to pass on me and his deal because he didn’t want a nother wing that couldn’t rebound that well wtf dude Im offering the one that can. About the only guy who loved Robinzine is the guy who has Bingo, and tried to steal him off me after TC more than once…Thank you for not accepting Skeeter for Westphal by the way Greeme. (ed note - i don't remember you offering Westphal but skeeter is >>>>>> anyway)
Outside that, HF is being weirdly friendly lately, don’t get that
And clearly Hype needs to stop overvaluing his players so damn much.
Biggie needs to not try to hold onto his youth, cause it wont do you any good to win 45 every year, English was maybe THAT valuable after his first TC, but after his second, meh, needs to get that D up.
