Repole claims to be the best gm around. Play claims he is a gimmick and ducked him this year by rebuilding. Reploe fires back!!
Play said that you decided to rebuild in order to duck his team. What is your response?
LOL. Play doesn't truly believe that, he's just spewing shit for a reaction.
I'll say this about Play: He won four championships with a guy he himself claimed was the GOAT prior to Bingo's arrival, how come no one claims Play was just riding Purnell's coat tails?
Why did you break up the Bingo team? Why not just keep getting as many championships as possible?
I like to challenge myself. I've already answered this but I'll say it again, there's nothing more boring then already knowing the outcome to something. I've made more moves in the past week than I had during Bingo's entire tenure here, and at the end of the day, I'm here to pass time and have fun. Bingo wasn't fun for me anymore.
Will Marty ever let you live down losing to him in the finals?
He's never really mentioned it? I mean it wasn't like I had a chance to make any DC adjustments or anything since I was without internet for a few weeks. I came home from vacation and saw my team made the finals, which was better than I expected that season. I don't remember my roster or his roster all that well from that season, but if he wants to brag about being better than me that year or something that's cool, he won it all, he deserves to take whatever credit for that he wants.
Which team worried you more the last 2 years, the Bobcats or Nuggets?
Sorry greeme, but it was the Bobcats pretty easily. I was confident that matching Wilie up on Issel would neutralize the advantage he had during the regular season when he played Issel at guard, but still his team was so talented that it was hard not to be concerned with them. You also were a pretty decent matchup problem for me, but ultimately your talent level didn't concern me nearly as much as the Bobcats' did.
Are you happy with Mike Glenn so far?
Yeah, the TC was pretty disappointing, but he's proving early that he's capable of putting up big scoring volume. To be honest the most disappointing thing is the rebounding, I was hoping it'd be salvagable (closer to D+ than D-), but oh well. He'll be a B- A scorer after I pour some ACs into him, should be good for about a point a minute, which is pretty cool late in the lotto. That isn't me exagerating either, pre TC he was one more point in jumpshot or outside away from A, and was pushed to B- inside with an RC. He took a bit of a step back in TC, but ACs will fix that up without any problem.
What about Ray Epps? Why did you move him so early – he looks to be a deadeye shooter?
He was shooting 50% and costing me losses, mainly. Even if Epps turns into a nice player, if moving him moved me up in the draft one spot, it was worth it. His first TC was also rather uneventful, and his RCs didn't hint at any hidden stardom.
Why did you give away Rich Kelley for free? He doesn't seem to be the type of player to hurt cys on the one hand and on the other hand he seems that a few acs could make him into a very good defender/rebounder with low tos and a solid ft%?
The same reason I gave Epps away for free. I don't want anyone who looks useful on my roster. Even if he turns into a nice starter in a few seasons, there's no point in letting him cost me a win or two. I wanted nothing to do with him in the Cavs deal, Marty threw him in. Really he's the one you should ask about Kelley.
Play said to ask you what is a gimmick so what is a gimmick? Do you feel that it is unfair to take advantage of fbb glitches or is everything ok that isn't against the rules?
I don't mind anyone else playing guys out of position if it isn't against BBS rules, so I don't see why they should mind where I play my guys. As others have noted, Play used some guys at PG earlier in BBS in a gimmicky fashion, but it's cool of him to act all high and mighty now because it's convenient. Traditional is boring here, everyone knows FBB, and everyone knows what to value. If everyone did things that way, the person who won every year would be the guy who got the luckiest in the draft and raped the most shitty GMs. To me, finding gems like Willie Davis who are struggling at PF and turning them into a stud at SG or SF is more fun than raping some shit GM for a stud. That's always been the most interesting aspect of basketball to me, whether real or shittily simulated FBB, there's nothing I enjoy more than seeing a guy succeed somewhere after being misutilized previously.
To answer your question though, a gimmick is anything that allows me to win, apparently.
Are you happy with what you got for George Trapp?
I am now that the Thunder have started rebuilding, but initially it looked like two valueless picks to take on a contract in McNeill and give away Trapp. I thought since my arrival people had started valuing production over ratings properly, but it appears that isn't the case yet. Oh well. I'll keep finding guys like Trapp and building winners with them.
Who is this ac going to?
Magic Johnson.
The 2046 class looks as a whole to be a bust so far. Who would be your top 5 from the class at this point? bbs2010.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=46draft&action=display&thread=22064&page=1
1. Tree - He's a quality all around big man, and while I don't think he'll get a ton better, he should should be a less turnover prone version of Lanier.
2. Dantley - Eh so he hasn't been that productive, and his TCs haven't been out of this world, but I'm still convinced he had 100 potential to start and is a TC away from breaking through. I still woudldn't be shocked at all if he turned out the best in this draft.
3. English - Awesome scorer, quality rebounder, but I'm a bit concerned with the turnovers. To me, his flaws are less fixable than Dantley's, even if English is the better player right now. I'd expect most of the league to prefer English at this point, and I wouldn't blame anyone for that, but I fear his turnovers remain a long term issue.
4. MRR - He's been awful offensively, but his awesomeness on the other side of the ball is hard to deny. He's boom or bust at this point, but I think he's still got a shot at breaking through.
5. DJ - He's MRR without the upside or major flaws.
If you were going up against Bingo how would you try to stop him?
The ideal player to matchup against Bingo is a guy who defends the perimeter and post well, and shoots the heck out of the ball offensively. An outside version of Willie Davis would be perfect. Bingo's only real weakness is his perimeter defense, so you have to attack that.
Which 2 gms are the hardest to deal with
DJ - I remember trying to get Zelmo a few seasons back. I doubt I attempt to initiate a trade with him again.
Jah - I can't remember the last time I tried, but seeing as he pretty much never trades, I'll assume trading with him isn't a walk in the park.
Marques or Ced Maxell
Why is this a question? Marques is putting up 20+ on nice percentages and looks like another Kenon type perhaps. Maxwell's doing essentially nothing.
If you had to win this year – Brown, Pistol, Barry or Skeeter?
Skeeter - Crazy efficiency.
Barry - Great all around, but not as efficient as Skeeter. If I had enough scoring, I might value his extra rebounding over Skeeter though.
Brown - I don't tend to value pure volume, and he's not that efficient.
Pistol - Not sure if I can trust him.
give yourself 1-10 ratings on the following: 1)draft 2) fa 3)dc 4)trading
Meh I hate doing these
Draft - 7
I tend to overvalue upside as opposed to actual production when I go into rebuild mode. I picked Phil Smith over Bobby Jones because I felt Phil was more likely to have value with his A potential than Jones. It sort of worked out in that I dealt Phil in a deal for NVL, but bleh.
I've had some decent late picks like Lamar Green though. I remember a few other guys like Ray Felix who out performed their slot, I don't remember any huge regrets other than Phil over Bobby.
KC Jones worked out well despite him being a minor surprise pick at the time, I was right about Bob Pettit being a more valuable player than Cousy (even though I drafted Cousy #2 after Pettit, I spent the next season convincing Outlawz to swap), Willie Somerset won a championship at PG for me.
This year I sort of took both extremes in pursuing pure upside in Cooper and pure production in Glenn (even though I didn't actually draft either technically).
FA - 9
I feel like I have a solid track record of finding guys who produce in free agency, especially on the cheaper side of things. Guys like Barry Clemens and Curtis Rowe, who were both left overs and probably not at the top of most people's left over list even. I obviously got lucky with Lucas however many years back, and then unlucky with Glock. The only other thing that really distinguishes me from anyone else is that I'm not afraid to pay a guy like Willie Davis or George Trapp because I know they'll help me win.
DC - 8
Well, obviously I'm pretty good at finding where guys will play most effectively. #gimmick. I'm one of the people that actually understands that putting a guy 1st and 3rd at a position doesn't get him any more minutes there than just putting him 1st, so that's a positive I guess? That tends to lead to me getting the proper minutes that I want out of guys and shortening my rotation. I have pretty much no idea how to set Trap, Press, or even Pace, so in that sense I suck.
Trading - 8
I go after what I want and tend not to care as much about value as I do about acquiring what I'm after. I wasn't afraid to trade Tanner Thompson for Vince King back in the day, and that move won me a championship (or overpay for Omar Green). I can't remember a trade that I genuinely regret, but I'm more than ready to admit that I lose out value wise quite often. I'm sort of the anti DJ in that sense.
3 most useless fbb attributes?
Passing, Jumping, Drive Defense
stat defense vs pos defense - thoughts?
Perimeter and post defense are huge. Anyone who doesn't realize that simply doesn't know FBB. My team held opponents to 40% shooting last year, and while my stats defense was great, it wasn't far and away the best in the league. My shooting defense was.
I'd always take an A- defender who blocks shots over one who doesn't, but most of that is because drive defense factors so much into the rating and means nothing.
Bird or Magic?
Magic simply because of the rebounding advantage at PG. #GIMMICKS
I'd hate passing up on Bird for Magic though, as a Celtics fan that just feels so, so dirty. And I ever so desparately want to run an outside offense again. Let's put it this way: If I were to end up with the 2nd pick in the draft, I'll be happier than if I get the 1st.
Which gm will have the most championships 10 years from now?
Aar - As long as he figures out how to build a defense around Bingo he should win 3 in the next 5 years.
Play said that you decided to rebuild in order to duck his team. What is your response?
