NOTE: Pretty sure I missed a big Key Arrival or Departure. Apologies in advance for that.
Golden State Warriors
Key Arrivals: World B. Free, Elmore Smith
Key Departures: JoJo White, Travis Grant
Analysis: There's no way this team is as bad as they've looked. They're not good, but 3 and 11 makes no sense. They don't turn the ball over, they block shots, and they shoot the ball decently. Their positional defense must be pretty awful, but I'm sure with a depth chart change this team will get back on track. Parish should be impproved, and Elmore Smith is a hell of a defensive center. Wil Jones should be productive at SF, and World B. Free is no slouch. Oh, and that Dave Bing guy, I just can't imagine him carrying a team to any less than 35 wins. It seems absurd.
Prediction: 35-47
Los Angeles Clippers
Key Arrivals: Brad Davis, Ben Poquette
Key Departures: Major Jones, Tiny Archibald, Willard Sojourner
Analysis: Hype's been a bit quiet with the Clippers, choosing to win as many games as he can rather than all out tank, but being pretty stringent when it comes to deals. Essentially, he's pulling a DJ. Whether it will work for him as well is another question, but at this point you have to wonder why Gene Moore is still on the roster. Either way, the Clippers have some talent to work with, and in a season where seemingly everyone is tanking, it might be worth a shot to go out there and try to win 42. Neal and Moore form a rock solid frontcourt, with offseason acquisition Allan Bristow providing a relatively surprising scoring spark. Archie Clark's poor percentages are holding them back some, and the SF spot could use a defensive infusion, but all in all this team is pretty solid.
Prediction: - 46 - 36
Los Angeles Lakers
Key Arrivals: Craig Raymond
Key Departures:
Analysis: Not a ton of activity for the Lakers in the offseason, but Styro seems to be looking to make moves here early in 2047. For now the Lakers are up to their usual tricks, including some elite offensive production and mediocre at best defense. Lanier is doing everything he can to anchor that defense, but virtually no one outside of him is providing anything positive on that end, so it's pretty easy to see why they've had problems there. Offensively is another story. Money looks poised to step into an elite group of BBS players, Kenon and Hudson can still score, Westphal shoots with the best of them, and Lanier's rock solid in the post. They'll compete in the West with just about anyone, but as currently constructed they're not likely to take out the Blazers.
Prediction: 54-28
Oklahoma City Thunder
Key Arrivals: Walt Hazzard, George McGinnis, Junior Bridgeman, Mel Daniels, Barry Clemens
Key Departures: Larry Jones, John Mengelt
Analysis: So Habes went ahead and dealt the heart and soul of his team for a couple Hawks players who quite frankly aren't that good. All the respect in the world for Habes not going back on his word after thinking McGinnis was 23, but yeah, this trade is going to hurt them, a lot. They'll still be good, thanks to a still very productive Rick Barry, and the newly acquired Walt Hazzard, but they are unlikely to be as good as they were last year. Habes is about as good as it gets at producing wins no matter what the talent range though, so don't expect them to go quietly, they'll be a tough out in the playoffs.
Prediction: 49-33
Phoenix Suns
Key Arrivals: Zaid Abdul-Aziz, Jack Sikma, Eddie Jordan
Key Departures: Warren Jabali, Sidney Wicks, Dick Cunningham, Stew Johnson
Analysis: I've never seen someone this good at losing. Really just elite stuff going on here. Their offense is beyond awful, there really isn't a single player taking shots who should be taking shots. Their defense is pretty bad too, though admittedly not as terrible as the offense. Talking about this team just makes me sad honestly. Hats off to Outlawz on yet another impressive tank job.
Prediction: 13-69
Portland Trail Blazers
Key Arrivals: Kermit Washington, Larry Jones, Mark Landsberger
Key Departures: Chet Walker
Analysis: The Blazers had themselves quite the offseason/beginning of 2047, signing top tier big man Kermit Washington and bringing in Larry Jones in a trade that's yet to be processed. With Jones in the fold, the Blazers are virtually without weakness. They have defense, they have rebounding, and now they have scoring too. The scary part is they have plenty of talent that isn't really being utilized that could be dealt off for upgrades. Anything short of a finals apparence, and really a championship, would be a disappointment for Broph I'm sure, and I don't blame him.
Prediction: 62-20
Utah Jazz
Key Arrivals:
Key Departures:
Analysis: Their roster is literally exactly the same. I wish I was kidding. Classic Jah really. So what is there to know about the Jazz? Well, Rick Roberson is still a stud, one that no one ever talks about becaue he's on the Jazz, and Garfield Smith is a pretty cool looking player. Dick Snyder will hopefully avoid the injury bug this season and make a real impact, and in that sense the Jazz should be better. While they aren't any less talented than last year, the rest of the West seems to have taken a step forward, so expect the Jazz to lose a few more games this season.
Prediction: - 50 - 32
