1. Pick one GM and tell me why they need Fred or Jasper, and what they should give you.
Biggie needs to get Fred. He seems up in the air on whether he should acquire talent or continue rebuilding and he shouldn't be. With Walton, English and Lucas on deck he must look towards winning now. As constructed there is no way Biggie has a shot at competing for a top pick.. especially if those 3 guys continue to improve like they should. Give me ANY 2 1sts and you're adding a ~23 PPG, 2+ stl guy without giving up anything significant.
2. Who are the top three teams in each conference?
East - Bucks, Bobcats (sorry about missing you in the last article), Bulls in that order. Nets are right there though.
West - I picked the Lakers, Wolves and Blazers in the last article and I'm sticking to it.
3. How much trouble are the Grizzlies in?
Big trouble mister. Grizz are in the worst possible spot a team could be in - no value, no picks and to top things off the West is looking pretty damn tough with like 7 or 8 teams having a lot of talent on deck. Keeping things positive though, the Grizz do have a chance of holding on to a lower seed. Murphy and Gale in the back with Denton and Hillman up front isn't too bad. He'll need some luck on his side to make it for sure.
4. You've said more than once that you'll hang it up if you don't make your CY. Unlucky or not, your stay in Boston has been a disappointment, and some have questioned your GMing ability recently. Has it lit any sort of a fire under you? Are you having second thoughts about retiring before you win again?
Well to start, it's really only Marty and Skillz that seem to be on my back. The others don't defend my poor stretch but at the same time they do seem to understand that I didn't suddenly become a scrub overnight. I'm still me. Just in a rough stretch. And this is my first one ever here. Meanwhile a lot of guys have been in multiple rough stretches. For my first one to be coming in after like 50 seasons or so I'd say I'm doing well.
Anyway, at first I didn't care but now I'm fired up. Skillz tipped the scale. I said before that I have nothing to prove. I take that back. People have forgotten that when I was on my A game I had one of the most dominant stretches this league has seen in 2020-2024 with 5 straight finals appearances and two titles. There's only 2 other GMs here that can say they've had a stretch on par or better than that. I told Skillz he won't be winning anymore now and I mean it. I'm ready to go in. Just need to back up my talk with actions.
As of right now I'm not thinking about retiring. I'm thinking about winning.
5. Which GMs in BBS are better than you?
I hate this question. I'd say I'm modest, but I'm confident as well and I'm not in the business of bringing myself down in order to big up others. I will say that Play is the best GM I've personally seen. Pole has been incredible. I'm stopping there. Going by the interviews, the next set of guys, including yourself (Habes), broph, aar, skillz, dj are all typically seen as clear guys ahead of me. All great GMs.. but unfortunately the #s do not support that thought. I'll let that marinate.
6. I think you're a relatively anonymous GM as far as life story goes. Tell the league a few things about yourself.
I'd agree and it's for a reason. I just don't like to talk about my personal life much. I've never been one to put myself out there like that. I have no problem shooting the shit with anyone though. I'm just a private person. I keep things relatively light with co-workers in spite of the fact that they all seem to want to tell me everything that is going on with their lives. I take the same approach online.
But since you asked, I'm a 22 year old that is currently working full-time while residing in Randolph, Massachusetts trying to find my way in life. There it is in a nutshell.
7. Did Repole rebuild prematurely? If so, does that tarnish his resume, especially with Play's? Or was there nothing left to prove with that core?
I'm pretty much in agreement with Marty on this. It certainly seems like Repole let all of the Bingo talk get to him and now he's out to prove something. It's the reason why I didn't comment in the trade thread. A player with Bingo's talent should not be obtainable but Pole said fuck it and moved him. Maybe I'm looking into it too much because he has won without Bingo. I don't know. If you're bored with the team, move some of the other guys IMO.
I will say that there was nothing else to prove with that core. It's clear that barring injuries the Magic were going to keep winning titles until the squad got old. As far as his resume, he's fine as long as he does what he has set out to do and that's become dominant without Bingo
8. Who are your three favorite and least favorite BBS personalities?
Hard to limit it to 3 favorites and as far as least favorites I don't have any. Maybe this seems like a cop out but fuck you (no disrespect though)... I'm just gonna list a bunch of guys that I enjoy. This list includes but is not limited to:
Habes - It's your article so I'll start with you. Hilarious in a random way and you keep my vocabulary sharp
Play - love the confidence and shit talking and the fact that he has the #s to back it up. A true Alpha GM
Andy - hilarious. Gif game on 100.
Broph - Broph interjecting his thoughts on everything is fucking hilarious to me. So many guys get mad and I can't help but laugh
Jah - Jah won't make a comment for a whole season but when he's going up against the Thunder in the playoffs, it's on. Stays sending shots and shit lol
HF, Styro - They do the same shit Play does but don't have the #s. I looped them together because they both be talking shit to Broph. lmao worthy type stuff. HF talking shit to CC is also priceless
9. Favorite player in this version of BBS?
I was probably most attached to Monta Ellis so I have to say him. Even though I didn't develop him or win with him, those years were probably the most fun I had here. Could not wait to see what Monta was going to do each sim and boy was he a dog. Got 50 points at least a few times every season to go along with a bunch of 40+ games. Brandon Roy is an obvious honorable mention. Those 2 were murdering teams. Just didn't have the bigs to go all the way. Life and Times of Ellis and B.Roy.
10. Would you rather rebuild for one season and put together four consecutive 60-win seasons, or rebuild three seasons, win a ring, and immediately tear down?
I'll take the former. When I'm ranking GMs I think everything has to count... not just titles. Winning in bunches is most impressive to me. It's why I wouldn't rank aar top 3 in spite of his 5 titles. If you take a look at his contract year thread you can see just how atrocious he has been in the regular seasons. I don't know the exact numbers but judging by all the losing seasons there is no way he is anywhere near .500 for his career and that knocks him down my list quite a bit. I guess people neglect it because of the titles and that's fine. This is all subjective and I don't mean any disrespect. I just don't think I can put him alongside Play, Broph, Pole, etc with such a bad regular season #.
