1. Who are you?
My name is Christian Martinez. I'm 25 years old. I live in New Jersey. I have dual citizenship both American and Spanish. I work in logistics/international trade. My two biggest customers are Kraft Foods and Hershey.
2. What makes you tick?
Not quite sure how to answer this one? Is this about my hobbies and shit? Let's see, I enjoy my job alot. I left my old job in New York City and am currently working much closer to home in Port Newark/Elizabeth. I am a die hard Real Madrid fan. I love Spain, if times weren't tough over there I'd be living there. I love to travel and experience new things. Love making people laugh. I'm currently single and readily available so please PM me if you're interested on going on a date!
3. What does BBS provide for you?
A form of entertainment to pass the time. There are many days I could give two shits about BBS, but after a few days I'll go back to posting consistently on BBS. With my job I have much less time to spend on BBS than in my previous one but still try to dedicate as much time as I possibly can. I wouldn't say I've gained any "friendships" from BBS but wouldn't mind hanging out with a few PPL, even though most are former GMs not current ones. Only guy I've met in real life was Reilly, and it was totally by coincidence.
4. What do you contribute to BBS?
Entertainment. Simple as that. People love to hate me, and I enjoy being the "bad" guy, the one who people take that extra step to point out that I made a mistake on my depth chart, that extra step to stick their noses in every trade I make, that extra step to point out how much they don't care about me, yet follow my every move.
I am BBS' number one villain and without me, BBS would not be what it is today. I won't sit here and say I'm a top 10 GM of all-time, I'm not, if I took this seriously I know I'd be much better than I am.
5. Are you a troll? Is the BBS persona all an act?
Define troll? Is it an act? I don't know my personality is this. I like to be funny and piss peolpe off, that's fun to me. Notice how I don't "troll" everyone. Only the people who I know I can get to. To me "trolling" is what greeme does, by far his commentary is the worst part of BBS. Pig compared his commentary to Lumley's which is ridiculous to me. Lumley was funny and genuine. Greeme to me is more reminiscent of Krupinski, without the GMing talent, in the sense that both will spew so many lies and bend so many truths in order to make it seem like they are right.
6. As a BBS veteran, do you feel any connection to other GMs (Past or Present)?
I mean, not anymore, BBS is a completely different landscape. The guys I was close to Mark, Reilly, Hernando, Lumley, Basone, etc are all currently out and gone. Right now I mean I really do truly hate Haberman but I'm glad he's still in BBS lol I don't really care for anyone else to be honest and that's not a knock on nobody. I just think it's more due to the fact that the league is completley alien to me with alot of new faces(and old ones I don't care much for).
I do know if the Haberman's, Skillz, Jordan's etc of the world are gone I'd probably bail to. If spencer ever decided to step down, I would as well.
7. Will you ever win a championship again? How?
Yes, I will ask Spencer for the help again like I always do?
In all seriousness, I think I should have won multiple championships. I've just had incredibley bad luck with injuries come playoff time and/or just being very lazy with things(i.e. not checking injured players and reducing time with RCs, not doing re-signings, horrible FA bids etc)
I've definitely improved over the last 10 seasons and my championship proves that. I feel I should have at the very least 4 finals appearances under my belt and at least 2 championships. My goal is to win one within the next 3 seasons.
8. Who is the biggest threat to you in the West?
No one is a threat to me out West. I feel confident about playing anyone and everyone out West come playoff time. I feel like my DC making ability is back to where it was in the last version of BBS and can do a much better job at capitalizing players talents. Chet Walker was a prime example of that. Only other GM out West who I feel is on par in matching me DC wise is perhaps aar.
9. With the PG rule and now the SG rule, do you think BBS is becoming too strict?
Not really, I don't think it's strict enough. I don't think there's enough rules and I'm not being sarcastic at all. Alot of GMs are just good at taking advantage of loopholes which is why I find a GM like repople to be incredibly overrated as all his championships have come by taking advantage of a weakness in FBB which is playig oversized players at the 1/2.
I think there should be more league activity i.e. with rewards and such and betting and all that. Something Spencer was never a fan of but has been proven to be an activity stirrer in many leagues before. I have always called for this and if enough people back me on this perhaps we can accomplish this one day.
10. You are currently in a rebuild. Other than the obvious, what is your general philosophy regarding a rebuilding roster?
For me, I have two goals when it comes to a rebuild. One is to never rush a rebuild. People are firm believes of "two-year" rebuilds in order to avoid ever even being in their CY, but these teams never accomplish nothing except be perenial mid-table teams.
Having a full three year rebuild allows you to set-up various pieces at different positions. My biggest failure with this rebuild was a lack of a #1 pick. Neal, McGinnis, and Spencer were all drafted at the #4 spot, Wilkes was a #5 pick. This re-build has been incredibly frustrating due to lack of free agency and lack of willingness in other teams wanting to trade for reasonably priced offers.
11. You land the 1st pick. George Gervin or Bill Walton?
Well this is a moot point, but had I landed the #1 pick I would have more than likely chose Walton, and moved McGinnis and/or Spencer Haywood for a two guard then play Walton/Neal/McGinnis or Spencer/My Stud SG/Tiny and would have had a sweet line-up.
12. What do you believe is the most diluted position in BBS?
It's got to be SG no? There are so many B A type players at SG averaging 10-20 mpg and putting up 8ppg in Free Agency etc but with that being said, I also think it's one of the most important positions in BBS especially if you have a guy who can play the 2 and the 3. It gives you incredible flexibility come playoff time when playing the match-ups are important.
13. Pick a GM to praise.
Andrew, he's actually done a surprisingly good job while remaining relatively active. Don't know how long this will last considering majority of his players are quickly aging and he's not doing much to fix that situation. I still do feel he will end up quitting in a month or so regardless but for irght now has done a decent job.
14. Pick a GM to scold.
Greeme, is absolutely ridiculous with his commentary and have no idea why people give him credit. Yeah he makes playoffs almost every season, yeah he makes second round of playoffs every year, but has zero clue what it takes to win a title.
15. Rate your BBS career (current incarnation only) from 0-10 and explain that rating.
8, go read Aar's article of a few seasons ago, or Mark's of a couple of months ago rating BBS' GMs as two of perhaps BBS' best GMs have rated me very highly, and 8 is about right for me.
16. Would you be in favor of a BBS restart to correct the inflation common to FBB leagues, such as amplified scoring, blocks, and steals?
No. Not yet. The only reason I would see for a re-start is if we finally decided to move to a new Game Engine. I find it ridiculous that there are a handful of people so adamant about not moving to another game engine.
Why people are so against spend $10 for an incredibly update game engine vs. an incredibly archaic game engine that is FBB is beyond me.
17. Great defense or Great offense?
Great defense... I've seen teams with 3 20+ppg scorers roll through the regular season and get destryoed come playoff time by a great defensive team. It's much easier to shut down big time scorers, then it is to score on shut down defenders.
18. Thoughts on Pace? Trap? Press? Focus? When do you increase/decrease each and why?
I don't want to give away to much but this one is pretty obvious no? If you have a lot of quick/athletic gusy you do Very Fast pace, if you got guys with good steals you trap. Good perimeter defenders you press and then the opposite....like I touched on before FBB is incredily archaic and it doesn't take much to come up with tactics lol.
19. You once said, in response to greeme:
Apr 3, 2012, 9:59am, U mad? wrote:Now continue trying to grasp for my attention in other threads, it will as of this post, continued to be ignored as it has all season
Were you really talking to greeme or yourself?
It's true. Yes, I do start with other people all the time but I don't go into people's DC threads and point out tanking issues like Broph does when he's upset with me. I don't go into the transactions thread when greeme posts a transaction to make sure he isn't cheating like many people do with me.
I don't go into trade threads people I "dislike" and try to do everything possible to insure the trade doesn't go through like greeme and many others do. THAT'S trolling, THAT is what makes the league less fun and that's something I can say I have never done. If you want to go out of your way to try to destroy my team do so by building a team better than mine. Don't try to hurt my team by running to Spencer and PMing him I'm cheating.
I'm sure after the 100th Spencer rejects a complaint about me people would get a clue that he never makes a decision that doesn't go my way.
