It seems like a bad ratings draft but my guess is that a bunch of guys are built to look bad and sim well. Or this might be the worst draft of all time. May not have the superstars at the top of the draft that other drafts but I think there will be a bunch of guys drafted 10-20 that will sim better than they look. Problem is that I can't figure out who they are. Pgs are back, I have 4 going top 10. Lots of top guys don't like playing D.
1. Bob McAdoo C 6'9'' 210 21 A- C C- C+ B A
Not a good sign that he wasn't coronated the clear first pick and Spencer just said he is top 3. McAdoo is a going to be a very good inside scorer. He will also hit the boards well. The problem is that his C outside includes a desire to chuck up threes, which most gms view as a negative. Also kind of unclear what he looks like defensively but going by his grade he will be below average.
2. Paul Westphal SG 6'4'' 195 21 B- A- B C D A
Touted as the best guard in the draft, Paul will go early. He will be a great scorer, inside and out, but he is not without question marks relating to his defense, handling and rebounding. I'm not even sure that he compares favorably to Carr or even Brown from last year's class. Because he has so many question marks he could easily drop a few slots.
3. M.L. Carr SF 6'6'' 205 21 B C+ B B B B
Hmmmmmm. Will he be Jabali or maybe an all around stud (Bingo??)?? If Carr had (has??) A pot he might go #1 overall. He scores, doesn't turn the ball over, super quick, rebounds, blocks, steals. He seems to do it all. May be a risk at #1 but would you risk passing on the next Bingo? I have no doubt that there are gms in the league who would take him first.
4. Kevin Porter PG 6'0'' 170 22 C+ C A- B D A
Pre-notes I had him as the third best pg but what do I know, I traded Nate ƒ¼. A very quick pg who handles well and will be a solid defender. Why is this guy top 4? Idk but I trust Spencer.
5. Lloyd Neal PF 6'7'' 225 21 B- C C- B- B- A
Spencer saying this guy is top 5 makes me think that the top of this draft sucks. Even if he is on the cusp of b ratings inside, d and rebounding I don't think he should be top 5. That said he does everything you want from a big except maybe defend the post. He scores inside, hits his fts, blocks shots, ok on the boards and keeps the rock.
6. Brian Taylor PG 6'2'' 185 21 C B+ C+ B+ C A
I'm a big fan of taylor. Not a great passer but who cares? Amazing quickness and handles. He can hit the 3 and get steals. Even is a decent rebounder. Probably won't improve as much as other guys but so what? Possible question is his scoring volume.
7. Dave Twardzik PG 6'1'' 175 22 B+ C+ B- B C B
He will score. Does he have a bad 3 pt shot or just no shot? He is a good ball handler and solid from the line. Also will get steals and help out on the boards.
8. Chris Ford SG 6'5'' 190 23 B- B+ C B C- B
He can score inside and out and has a very good midrange game. He is solid at other stuff but not spectacular. Kind of reminds me of Mike Gale, which should either tell you that I don't like this draft much or really like Gale.
9. Ronald Thomas PF 6'6'' 215 21 B C D+ C+ B B
He is very intriguing. That beats a lot of other guys. He can do a bunch of stuff well. He scores inside, plays d and steals. Can also hold his own on the boards. He will be better than he looks, especially if he can hit a ft.
10. James Silas PG 6'1'' 180 23 B C B B+ C B
Solid player. I would like someone with more star quality at #10, or at least somebody who can hit the three but there is no doubt he will be a solid pg in the Em Bryant/Charles Johnson class of PGs.
11. Ollie Johnson SF 6'6'' 200 23 B C C- B C A
Glue guy with high pot. Scores inside, hits fts well, holds on to the ball. Lots of guys look like him and are signed for cheap. The question is how will he develop?
12. Claude Terry SG 6'4'' 195 22 C+ B+ C B C B
He should be a solid player. He can shoot, steal and rebound well for a sg.
13. Dwight Davis PF 6'8'' 220 23 C+ C C- A- B B
Defender/rebounder who hits his fts. Doesn't block shots but steals. Was that a collective meh I heard? He could surprise at sf.
14. Rowland Garrett SF 6'6'' 210 22 C+ B+ C B- C B
Don't leave him open from 3 pt land bc he will bury the shot. Will he be a shooter that can't score? Will he be a to whore? Stay tuned.
15. Steve Hawes C 6'9'' 220 22 B B- C- C+ C+ B
Not really sure what happens now. Do you get a glue guy? Do you take a flyer on pot? Take a backup pg? Hawes can score but is a poor rebounder for a c/pf. Should he move to sf? Meh, he is a solid post defender so a move might not be good. Doesn't get blocks/steals. Could go here or 10 picks later. It is really subjective here.
16. Henry Bibby PG 6'1'' 185 22 C B B C+ C B
I don't see him as starter quality but he will be a solid pg in a league lacking them. He shoots well, takes care of the ball, steals and holds his own on the boards. His D will keep him on the bench though.
17. Ansley Truitt C 6'9'' 215 22 B- C- C- B C+ C
Oh, he can block shots? That is enough for him to get drafted here.
18. Mickey Davis SF 6'7'' 195 22 B C C A- C+ B
Slightly more developed than Ollie but with less pot. Reminds me of John Wetzel who I like but wouldn't pay 2 mil for in the current market.
19. Mike Barr PG 6'3'' 180 22 C+ C+ B+ B- D+ B
Spencer called him a fringe starter quality type PG. If this guy is a fringe starter that means we need lots of pgs in the league.
20. Ralph Simpson SF 6'5'' 200 23 B+ C+ C+ C C B
Bad Defense? Check. Poor rebounder? Check. Handling issues? Check. At least he looks decent on offense.
21. LaRue Martin C 6'11'' 208 22 C+ D+ D+ C+ C A
And high upside is enough for this scrub to get drafted here.
22. John Gianelli C 6'10'' 220 22 C C D+ B+ C+ C
Really not a lot to write about these guys that are left.
23. Don Buse PG 6'4'' 190 22 C B- B- B C- B
No Notes guy. He was one of the best defenders of all time in real life so maybe he can do something in BBS. Or maybe not.
24. Bill Chamberlain SF 6'6'' 188 22 B- B- C B- C+ C
If this guy has hidden pot¡K¡K.. No reason not to take a shot at this point.
25. Charles Dudley PG 6'2'' 180 22 C B- B+ B- D+ B
Maybe will become a decent backup pg. Maybe this pick will be better off forfeited.
26. Sam Cash PF 6'8'' 230 21 B- C- D+ B B- C
Kind of like Dudley, only a pf.
27. Henry Bacon SG 6'3'' 205 24 C+ B C+ B- C- C
He can score. And might be a numbers defender.
28. Jim Creighton PF 6'8'' 200 22 C D+ D+ B+ C+ C
Solid overall defender
29. William Franklin SF 6'7'' 220 23 B- C C B B- C
