All-Decade First Team
C: Wilt Chamberlain
Wilt's resume from 2030-2039:
1x MVP
2x Defensive Player of the Year
8x All-League 1st Team
1x All-League 2nd Team
3x All-Defensive Team
2x All-Defensive Team
10x All-Star
2x All-Star Game MVP
Wilt, as expected, has been absolutely dominant. However, it shows that FBB does not give up the MVP award to big men easily.
Chamberlain has had an absolutely studly career, but like his pro career, Chamberlain has not been a closer, as he has yet to win a BBS Championship.
According to his most recent player page, he has been the Player of the Game in 38% of games that he has appeared in. That's pretty impressive.
PF: Jerry Lucas
I thought that this would be a toss-up between him and Bob Pettit, but it's not close.
2x BBS Champion
3x All-League First Team
4x All-League Second Team
2x All-League Third Team
5x All-Defensive Second Team
8x All-Star
In 2034, these were Lucas's averages:
31.4 ppg, 13.5 rpg, 1.0 spg, 4.3 bpg
He was edged out for MVP by Jerry West, who averaged 32.5 ppg, 6.2 rpg and 11.0 apg.
Personally, I would have given it to Lucas that year.
SF: Elgin Baylor
This was a tough call because Oscar Robertson is technically a small forward, but Baylor gets the nod.
1x MVP
1x BBS Champion
1x Playoff MVP
9x All-Star
6x All-League First Team
4x All-League Second Team
3x All-Defensive Second Team
3-Point Shootout Champion
Like a fine wine, Baylor has gotten better with age, coming off of his first MVP and first championship at age 35.
He has been a dominant small forward
SG: Hal Greer
Several candidates for the first team shooting guard, but Greer takes the cake due to his versatility.
Nearly double the amount of double doubles as Hot Rod Hundley and just generally a stud.
It's a shock that he and Jerry West never won a title together.
8x All-Star
3x All-League First Team
1x All-League Second Team
3x All-League Third Team
1x All-Defensive Team
1x 3-Point Shootout Champion
PG: Jerry West
A true no-brainer here. No disrespect to Purnell Jackson.
3x MVP
8x All-Star
2x All-Star MVP
6x All-League First Team
1x All-League Second Team
1x All-League Third Team
2x All-Defensive Second Team
1x 3-Point Shootout Champion
West's career, like Wilt and Greer's will be tainted by not having won a championship.
He has been an absolutely incredible player, who has a higher Player of the Game ratio than Wilt at 45.2%.
West also boasts 76 triple doubles in 931 games, which is pretty remarkable.
All-Decade Second Team
C: Bill Russell
2x BBS Champion
2x Playoff MVP
1x Defensive Player of the Year
7x All-Star
1x All-Star MVP
3x All-League Second Team
3x All-League Third Team
2x All-Defensive Team
1x All-Defensive Second Team
Russell has had a great career, but hardly a prolific one.
He's always been among the league's best rebounders and shot blockers, but never among the top scorers, nor did he shoot an incredible percentage.
However, Russell was a winner, plain and simple.
PF: Bob Petit
3x BBS Champion
4x All-League First Team
5x All-Star
Like Russell, Petit hasn't had a prolific career, but has won three BBS championships as the second best player on his team and was considered the best at his position (both at PF and C) four times.
SF: Horace Walker
4x Defensive Player of the Year
1x Rookie of the Year
5x All-Star
1x All-League First Team
1x All-League Second Team
5x All-Defensive Team
1x All-Defensive Second Team
1x Slam Dunk Contest Winner
Walker was an absolutely prolific defender and while he never won a championship, he is still only 32 years old and I expect that he will when all is said and done.
Walker may not have the All-League team accolades, but he is certainly the next best small forward.
SG: Hot Rod Hundley
1x BBS Champion
6x All-Star
2x All-League First Team
4x All-League Second Team
5x All-Defensive Team
2x All-Defensive Second Team
Hot Rod is such a well-rounded player and did it on both ends of the floor.
He was the second best player on a championship team and was a mainstay on both the All-League and All-Defensive team.
He just beats out John Havlicek, who got a late start to his awesome career.
PG: Oscar Robertson
2x MVP
6x All-Star
4x All-League First Team
3x All-League Second Team
1x All-League Third Team
2x All-Defensive Team
1x All-Defensive Second Team
I consider Robertson a point guard and man has he been good.
Purnell gets snubbed again, although the previous decade was more his time to shine.
All-Decade Third Team
C: Nate Thurmond
No disrespect to Rudy Larusso, Bumper or KAJ, but Thurmond barely gets the nod.
2x All-Star
1x All-Star Game MVP
1x Defensive Player of the Year
1x All-League First Team
2x All-League Second Team
1x All-League Third Team
1x All-Defensive Team
1x All-Defensive Second Team
Not the best resume for a guy who many consider the best player in the league.
PF: Rudy LaRusso
3x BBS Champion
6x All-Star
1x All-Star Game MVP
3x All-League Second Team
1x All-League Third Team
1x All-Defensive Team
1x All-Defensive Second Team
LaRusso is the ultimate complimentary piece and has won more championships than anyone else on this list so far.
The power forward position has had so many solid players, but LaRusso gets the nod.
The most surprising thing that I noticed was the lack of Billy Cunningham accolades despite his being considered one of the most valuable players in the league.
SF: Larry Jones
2x All-Star
2x All-League Third Team
1x Dunk Contest Winner
Why the hell not?
30+ ppg for seven straight seasons. No idea why FBB gives him absolutely no love.
SG: John Havlicek
1x Sixth Man of the Year
5x All-Star
3x All-League First Team
1x All-League Second Team
1x All-League Third Team
1x All-Defensive Team
2x All-Defensive Second Team
2x 3-Point Shootout Champion
Hondo has been awesome, but he started becoming awesome mid-way through the decade. Since then, he's probably been the best small forward in the league.
PG: Purnell Jackson
4x BBS Champion (two this decade)
2x Playoff MVP
4x All-Star
2x All-League First Team
2x All-League Second Team
Purnell slowed down this decade, but was still a key cog on championship teams and it would be disrespectful to leave him off of this list.
He might be the best point guard in BBS history.
