Here is Part 2 Review of the '36 Draft. It will cover 1st round picks 14 through 29 and potential 2nd round steals.
14 Milwaukee Bucks - Clyde Lee C 6'10'' 205 22 C+ C- D+ A- A- B
Post TC: Clyde Lee C 22 6'10'' 205 C+ C- D+ A- A- B
Lee is entering the league as a BBS ready big and his ratings shows that.. Although he didn't improve at all in TC, he will give Milwaukee much needed depth off the bench and could possibly start for them.. He won't block shots but his post defense and rebounding are already elite.. The front court of Lee, Wright, and Washington will be intimidating throughout the season and come Playoff time.
15 Cleveland Cavaliers - Jim Barnett SF 6'4'' 170 21 C+ B+ C- B+ C- B
Post TC: Jim Barnett SF 21 6'4'' 170 C+ A- C- A- C- B
+2 TC.
Cavs drafted this kid because they felt he was the best player available.. He's only 21 with upside... The Cavs also needed wing depth off the bench and Barnett provides that for them.. They are running an outside offense this year and JB should be able to fit in perfectly.
16 Detroit Pistons -John Block C 6'9'' 207 22 B- C C B+ B B
Post TC: John Block C 22 6'9'' 207 B- C C A- B+ B
+2 TC.
Block looks like a BBS ready player.. He's only 22 and I think he will only get better...He will provide defense and rebounding this year and towards the future for Detroit.. He also has a post game and I think he will average a double double by the end of the year.. Pistons are rebuilding so expect Block to get heavy minutes as a starting center.
17 Chicago Bulls - Stephen Chubin PG 6'2'' 200 22 C+ B B- B C+ B
Post TC: Stephen Chubin PG 22 6'2'' 200 C+ A- B+ A- C+ B
+6 TC
Arguably the sickest looking 1st round steal I have ever seen in recent BBS drafts.. Chubin had an AMAZING training camp and scouts were impressed and surprised by his game.. Chubin is entering the season as a BBS ready player based on his current ratings.. Probably the future PG for Chicago.. The question is, how will he and Wilkens co-exist with one another this season.. Eventually Chubin will lead Chicago towards the future as their main Point Guard.
18 Cleveland Cavaliers - Freddie Lewis PG 6'0'' 175 23 C+ B C+ B C- B
Post TC: Freddie Lewis PG 6'0'' 175 23 C+ B B- B C- B
+1 TC.
Selected 1 pick after Chubin.. Hopefully he will improve next year.. Right now he will watch and learn from the bench until he is ready.
19 Golden State Warriors - Neil Johnson C 6'7'' 220 23 B+ C- C- C+ C+ B
Post TC: Neil Johnson C 23 6'7'' 220 B+ C- C- B- C+ B
+1 TC.
Neil Johnson is entering the league as a low post scorer but that's pretty much it.. The Warriors are rebuilding so Johnson should get every opportunity to show case his game.
20 Toronto Raptors - Carroll Hooser PF 6'7'' 230 22 B D+ D+ B B- B
Post TC:Carroll Hooser PF 22 6'7'' 230 B D+ C- A- B- C
+3, -1 TC.
This draft lacked a solid PF class but Hooser was the best prospect out of it..He had a nice TC and he looks like he could get better...His defense is already nice and his offense could improve with RC's...I'm not sure what role Hooser will have on Toronto this year but I see him coming off the bench for them and spot start.. Toronto are still rebuilding so expect Hooser to get a good amount of minutes.
21 Denver Nuggets - Stan McKenzie SG 6'5'' 195 22 C+ A- D+ C+ D+ B
Post TC: Stan McKenzie SG 22 6'5'' 195 C+ A C- C+ C- B
+3 TC.
Currently on Indiana, McKenzie had a strong TC but he looks like a one dimensional player.. He can definitely shoot but that's it.. Pacers are rebuilding so maybe they will show case his game this season.
22 Milwaukee Bucks - Matt Guokas PG 6'5'' 175 22 B C B C D B
Post TC: Matt Guokas PG 22 6'5'' 175 B C+ A- C D B
+3 TC.
Guokas is another player who had a strong TC... After Bucks selected Clyde Lee @ #14, they pick up Guokas who should be able to fit into their system as a inside scorer and distributor.. He will be a nice backup PG behind Bradley Barker and could possibly start for them if Barker goes down.
23 Toronto Raptors - Bob McIntyre SF 6'6'' 215 22 A- C D+ C+ C C
Post TC: Bob McIntyre SF 22 6'6'' 215 A- C C- C+ C C
+1 TC.
*Read Stan McKenzie (except McIntyre can score inside.)
24.Phoenix Suns - Johnny Austin PG 6'0'' 170 22 C B- C C C- A
Post TC: Johnny Austin PG 22 6'0'' 170 C B C C+ C- A
+2 TC.
A project player for the Suns who will watch from the bench.. He had a nice TC and still has A potential so who knows what he will become in the future.
25. San Antoinio Spurs - John Comeaux SG 6'5'' 193 23 C+ B C C C- A
Post TC: John Comeaux SG 23 6'5'' 193 C A- C C D+ A
+2, -2 TC.
*Read Johnny Austin.
26. Washington Wizards - Lonnie Wright SG 6'2'' 205 22 B- B C B D+ B
Post TC: Lonnie Wright SG 22 6'2'' 205 B- B+ C+ B+ D+ B
+3 TC.
Wright had a very impressive TC and he looks like a steal at this pick.. Bobcats are rebuilding so expect Wright to have a nice rookie season.. Question is, how will Charlotte rotate their three guard trio of Wright-Snyder-Caldwell.. I see Charlotte trading Caldwell later this season and giving more minutes to Wright to prove his game.
27 Milwaukee Bucks - George Peeples C 6'7'' 190 23 B C- D+ B+ B- C
Post TC: George Peeples C 23 6'7'' 190 B C- D+ B B- C
-2 TC.
Disappointing TC...bench scrub at this point.. Don't really expect him to get much playing time this season.
28 Chicago Bulls - Dorie Murrey C 6'8'' 215 23 C C- D+ A- B B
Post TC: Dorie Murrey C 23 6'8'' 215 C C C- A- B B
+2 TC.
Murrey looks like a nice defensive-rebounding big and a solid backup for the Bulls.. He will provide depth for them this season.
29 Cleveland Cavaliers - John Wetzel SG 6'5'' 190 22 B- C C A- C+ C
Post TC: John Wetzel SG 22 6'5'' 190 B- C C B+ C+ C
-1 TC.
*Read George Peeples.
Potential 2nd Round Steals:
2. Boston Celtics - Lonnie Lynn SF 6'7'' 215 23 B C C- B B- B
Post TC: Lonnie Lynn SF 23 6'7'' 215 B+ C+ C- A- B B
+5 TC
Definitely a steal here.. Boston are rebuilding the right way and drafting a nice looking player in the 2nd round is always nice.. Lynn is already a nice scorer and defender-rebounder..He should definitely get better and I see him becoming a starter one day, if he isn't already... He should get plenty of playing time on Boston this season.
3. Charlotte Bobcats - Bill Melchionni PG 6'1'' 165 22 B- C+ B+ C D+ B
Post TC: Bill Melchionni PG 22 6'1'' 165 B- B A- C+ C- A
+6 TC
Yet another 2nd round steal.. Melchionni looks like one of those 2nd round PG's who will blossom into a very good player one day.. Bobcats are rebuilding so expect him to start for them and make other teams regret not selecting him in the 1st round.
8. Dallas Mavericks - Paul Long PG 6'2'' 180 22 C B+ B- C+ D C
Post TC: Paul Long PG 22 6'2'' 180 C A- B B- D C
+3 TC.
Long had a strong TC and could turn out to be a solid PG.. I see him becoming a C A B+ B type player.. I think he's a steal here.
Here is Part 2 Review of the '36 Draft. It will cover 1st round picks 14 through 29 and potential 2nd round steals.
14 Milwaukee Bucks - Clyde Lee C 6'10'' 205 22 C+ C- D+ A- A- B
