This is Part 1 Review of the '36 Draft. It will cover the players picked in the lottery.
1 Boston Celtics - Dave Bing PG 6'3'' 180 22 B B- B B- C A
Post TC: Dave Bing PG 22 6'3'' 180 B B B B+ C A
+3 TC.
Bing should be able to come in and pad his stats on a rebuilding Celtic team... I see him averaging around 20 PPG, 6 assists, and 2 steals per game...He should be a strong ROY candidate this season especially since FBB favors PG's.
2 Golden State Warriors - Cazzie Russell SF 6'5'' 218 21 B+ B- C- B+ D+ A
Post TC: Cazzie Russell SF 21 6'5'' 218 B+ B+ C- B+ D+ B
+1, -1 TC.
Although many feel Cazzie was a bad pick @ #2 over Lou Hudson, Cazzie should be a stud scorer for GS... The Warriors are also a rebuilding team so expect Cazzie to pad his stats.. I see him averaging around 20 PPG in his rookie season as long he is a top option on the team and Walt gives him the ball..Another strong ROY candidate.
3 Charlotte Bobcats - Lou Hudson SF 6'5'' 210 22 B B C B C+ A
Post TC: Lou Hudson SF 22 6'5'' 210 B+ A- C B C+ B
+3, -1 TC.
Hudson was clearly the #2 projected pick but Bobcats landed a stud here... Like Boston and Golden State, expect Hudson to pad his stats on a rebuilding Charlotte team.. I see him averaging 20-25 PPG and could perhaps be the best scorer in this draft considering the rest of his team sucks.
4 Los Angeles Clippers -Walt Wesley C 6'11'' 220 21 B- C- C- B- B- A
Post TC: Walt Wesley C 21 6'11'' 220 B- C- C- A- B+ A
+4 TC.
Wesley had a sick TC.. He could've gone in the top 3 right now based on his ratings.. Wesley should be able to come in right away and provide defense and rebounding for a rebuilding Clippers team... I don't expect him to score much at all but who knows with Marty's DC's...He could average around 10-12 PPG.. In a year or two, Wesley should become a dominant defense and rebounding force in the league.
5 Golden State Warriors -Donnie Freeman SG 6'3'' 185 22 A- B C+ C C B
Post TC: Donnie Freeman SG 22 6'3'' 185 A- B B- C C B
+1 TC.
Like Cazzie, many felt Freeman was a bad pick here, especially when chosen by the same team.. Despite that, Freeman should still be a sick scorer as long he and Cazzie will have no problem co-existing with one another.. Who will have the ball more?
6 Detroit Pistons - Archie Clark PG 6'2'' 175 23 B- B B- C+ C A
Post TC: Archie Clark PG 23 6'2'' 175 B- B B+ B- C A
+3 TC.
Detroit is another rebuilding team and I expect Clark to pad his stats just like the guys picked above him.. I see him averaging around 15-20 PPG, 7 assists, and probably a steal a game..However, I think turnovers could be high but we'll see.. If he does have a nice rookie season, he could be a strong ROY candidate, especially since FBB favors PG's.
7 Washington Wizards - Dick Snyder SG 6'5'' 207 21 A- C C B D+ B
Post TC: Dick Snyder SG 21 6'5'' 207 A- C C B+ C- A
+2 TC.
If I recall, Snyder had an impressive Preseason and he should be able to carry that momentum into the regular season.. His inside game looks very strong so expect him to do well this season.
8 Dallas Mavericks - John Beasley C 6'9'' 225 22 B B D+ B B B
Post TC: John Beasley C 22 6'9'' 225 B B C- B+ B A
+2 TC.
Beasley is an interesting prospect.. However, I'm not sure how he will fit into the Mavs system so it should be interesting how he does.. I expect him to come off the bench and provide scoring and defense-rebounding but that's about it.. I see him as a 6th man right now.
9 Atlanta Hawks - Jack Marin SF 6'7'' 200 22 B- B- C B+ C+ A
Post TC: Jack Marin SF 22 6'7'' 200 B B- C A- C+ A
+2 TC.
Marin has a decent offensive game and his defense is BBS ready..I see him giving the Hawks a nice boost off the bench until he is ready to start.. Hawks have their pick and could be tanking so who knows what they will do with Marin.
10 Toronto Raptors - Joe Ellis SF 6'6'' 175 22 C+ C C- A- A- A
Post TC: Joe Ellis SF 22 6'6'' 175 C C D+ A A- A
+2, -1 TC.
Ellis's offense took a hit in TC but his defensive-rebounding are already great.. I see Ellis providing a spark for the Raptors and giving them energy off the bench, or even starting for them.. Ellis should be able to do the little things (defend, rebound) and let the scorers do the rest of the work.
11 Charlotte Bobcats - Stew Johnson C 6'8'' 220 22 B- B+ D+ B- C+ B
Post TC: Stew Johnson PF 22 6'8'' 220 B B+ C- B- C+ C
+2, -1 TC.
Stew Johnson has a very nice offensive game who should have no problem scoring on a rebuilding Bobcats team.. The rest of his game needs work though so expect him to come off the bench or even starting for them since they have no other PF' on their team.
12 Portland Trailblazers - Julian Hammond SF 6'5'' 205 23 B+ C- C- A- B C
Post TC: Julian Hammond SF 23 6'5'' 205 B+ C- C- A- B- C
-1 TC.
Hammond looks tapped out for a rookie but his game is BBS ready and should provide right away.. His notes indicate he could start from day 1 but I don't see that happening this year.. I see Hammond coming off the bench for Portland and giving them great depth.. If Portland does have injuries, I do expect Hammond to spot start for them at some point in the season.
13 Charlotte Bobcats - Red Robbins C 6'8'' 190 22 C+ B+ C- B C+ B
Post TC: Red Robbins C 22 6'8'' 190 C+ A- C- B C+ B
+1 TC.
After selecting Lou Hudson at #3 and Stew Johnson at #11, Charlotte completes the Lottery by selecting Robbins who has a nice outside game and a solid post game.. Looking at their roster, Robbins will probably start for them at center and I see him averaging around 11-14 PPG if they run an outside offense, which will suit his game perfectly.
1 Boston Celtics - Dave Bing PG 6'3'' 180 22 B B- B B- C A
Post TC: Dave Bing PG 22 6'3'' 180 B B B B+ C A
