In the US it's not as stringent. More recently schools as prestigious as Stanford have begun encouraging earlier applicants - I have no idea how many of these "earlier applicants" end up being accepted, though. In the US I'd say 3-5 years work experience is still the standard. Is that just general work experience? OR would they prefer a business related job? A "professional" job. Basically, a career. That can be anything from being the manager of a store (think target or macys or something like that) to marketing and sales in an actual company to doing finance for a company. I'd say more than half of the ppl who go to a good business school do not hold typical "business" jobs beforehand, though. Many of them may be scientists or computer-oriented or lawyers. Adding an MBA can open up doors for them to continue in those professions in more managerial roles in large companies.

I'm sure working there would be good for getting into a business school for my masters.
