1. Frank Ramsey
Stats: 25.9 PPG 6.4 RPG 5.1 APG 2.4 SPG .507 FG% .879 FT% .527 3P%
I was really surprised by this, but Ramsey is the top shooting guard by a fair margin. Just look at those percentages. Not only is he offensively gifted, but he can also play a bit of defense as well. Judging by the modest amount of steals coupled with his A+ rating, I assume his perimeter D is quite high. He also turns it over only 1.5 times per game, so let's be real, does this man have any flaws as a shooting guard? I'm dumbfounded. KC and Frank have to be the most efficient backcourt I've ever seen in FBB, and for right now at least, they're the best backcourt in BBS.
2. Hal Greer
Stats: 29.9 PPG 8.5 RPG 4.6 APG 1.9 SPG .469 FG% .852 FT% .486 3P%
First of all, look at that huge forehead. But let's get to the heart of the matter. You'll be like Hal scores and boards more than Frank. Of course he does, I'm not disputing that. But I just cannot deny Ramsey's percentages and defensive edge. No slight at Greer for being placed #2 right now, Ramsey's just too good. The Lakers have one of the best backcourts in the league, but Greer and West could stand to have a breather on offense every once in awhile. They really don't have a big threat to score outside of their backcourt, so styro should look to trade Greenspan for a vet. I hear they're going cheaply nowadays.
3. Jason Paulson
Stats: 27.4 PPG 6.4 RPG 1.8 SPG 2.0 BPG .483 FG% .896 FT% .467 3P%
Yeah, he's on a shitty team. But I value two-way players highly, and Paulson definitely counts as one. Not only does he score like a beast (on my shortlist of 11 SG's, Paulson was 5th in scoring), but he also defends with the best of them. You look at his A- defense and think, that's nothing, that's a dime a dozen. Is 1.8 SPG and 2 BPG dime a dozen for a shooting guard? Hell no. And that's why Paulson's rated so high here. His percentages are top notch as well.
4. Omar Green
Stats: 25.4 PPG 6.7 RPG 2.3 SPG .503 FG% .864 FT% .458 3P%
Green is definitely aging, but one thing that he can still do is put the ball in the hoop at a very high clip. He was going to be 3rd ranked until I saw what Paulson was doing. 50% FG is beastly for a guard, and he can play a little bit of D as well. I can't believe more teams weren't willing to give value for Green. Poor repole. Omar definitely could've helped a lot of teams out, but I guess too many are rebuilding for there to be a good market for an aging star.
5. Hot Rod Hundley
Stats: 25.7 PPG 6.6 RPG 4.8 APG 2.3 SPG .487 FG% .821 FT% .424 3P%
Coming in at 5th is Hot Rod Hundley. I remember when I was trying to deal Barker, Hot Rod was the player I coveted most, but CJ just would not deal him. Turns out, he was right in keeping Hot Rod, just as he was right about keeping Jerry Lucas as he eventually won a title with that core and looks poised to repeat this season and ready to contend for many seasons. Hot Rod has sexy ratings, produces incredibly well, and plays good D. What's not to like?
6. Kevin White
Stats: 27.9 PPG 11.1 RPG .490 FG% .769 FT% .427 3P%
Who said Kevin White was playing out of position? Shooting guard is the perfect position for him. Standing at 6'7 235 lbs, White poses a mismatch at the 2 for almost every team in the league. Is your shooting guard able to handle him in the post? Can your shooting guard keep him off the glass? The answer for most teams is: probably not, as evidenced by White's 11 RPG. When he gets in the paint, he's like a bull in a china shop, he simply creates havoc down there until the ball is in the hoop or there's a whistle. The downside with White is that he gets a little careless with the ball sometimes and doesn't make free throws as often as he should.
7. Si Green
Stats: 24.6 PPG 6.3 RPG 4.1 APG .494 FG% .844 FT% .392 3P%
Si has pretty incredible shooting from the field, better than most post players who take shots closer to the hoop (or maybe that's just another retarded FBB flaw). He rebounds, he passes, and he plays D, just like everyone who appeared on this list before him save for Kevin White who doesn't pass. So what does Si need to work on to move up the list? His 3 ball could use the most work. He needs to pull that up to the mid 40's, and he'll sky rocket up this list.
8. Don Ohl
Stats: 31.0 PPG 4.7 APG .488 FG% .933 FT% .410 3P%
The two pure scorers are up next. Don Ohl getting the first nod because of his nasty percentages. If you're able to put up 31 PPG next to a guy that's doing 35 PPG along with 8 APG... well, you sir, are an absolute offensive beast. And that's exactly what Ohl is. He will get you buckets, and he'll get you them in a hurry. You blink, oh shit, he just dropped a trey on your head. Blink again, oh shit, he just went around you and dunked on the help defense. It cannot be said enough how good you have to be to score 31 PPG beside someone as ball dominant as Oscar Robertson.
9. Willie Meriwether
Stats: 32.7 PPG 6.3 RPG 2.2 SPG .470 FG% .856 FT% .403 3P%
Everything Ohl is capable of, Meriwether can do too, maybe at a slightly worse clip in some areas. Meriwether is no defensive wizard, but he eclipses Ohl in that area of the game. I just could not put him over Ohl because of team success and Ohl's shooting from the field. Overall, Willie Meriwether gets buckets. Period.
10. Kevin Loughery
Stats: 23.8 PPG 6.6 RPG 4.7 APG .488 FG% .878 FT% .437 3P%
Last but not least, the homer pick finally appears. Loughery is really good though, actually might be a bit better than Si Green. Oh well, 10th best shooting guard isn't bad for someone who has been belittled by GM's for most of his career.
