MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS IN BBS: PART 2 (35-21)
Part 2 of the Most Valuable players in BBS is here, same criteria as before, stats, contract age potential ratings all taken into account. As well as my bias, of course. lotta Wings and Points in this area
Part 1 can be found here
Part 3 can be found here
35. Spurs Gus Johnson SF 25 6'6'' 230 A- C D B- A- B
Part 2 begins with a rookie, but, a more polished one, Gus is a bit older, but is doing 20 and 10 in his first season, well, just short of it. His percentages are solid, he doesn’t turn the ball over, and is just all around a very solid player. I do think he has room to grow, and so I stuck him at 35, maybe a bit high, but I like him a lot.
34. 76ers Don Ohl SG 27 6'3'' 193 B+ A+ B- C D C
Ohl is a sick scorer with little desire to play Defense…Or maybe he has all the desire but none of the ability, dunno, all I know is he comes cheap, and is super efficient..I guess steals count as D…and he can do a bit of that, he doesn’t board well, but he does have an excellent ability to pass. Maybe a bit overrated here, but the contract sells it.
33. Jack Twyman SF 29 6'6'' 210 A- A- C+ B B+ D
I overlooked Twyman on the first go around, cause his stats so far this year have been shitty, but, he is a top tier scorer, at 26+ for his career, and is 29. He rebounds great, doesn’t turn it over a ton, steals, and just is all around a very good player, albeit without great D. I feel like he should be higher, but, I just couldnt move him higher since he is so irrelevant, as playing for the Jazz does.
32. Nets John Havlicek SG 23 6'5'' 203 B A B- B+ C B
I love Havlicek, really, I just feel like he is misutilized, but, you really cant put him higher than this, so I put him here. He still is an excellent steals guy, with a great outside game, and sick ratings…but his performance so far has been shit for his first three years. I mean, you expect so much more…He does however have a 10 steal game in his career, something of a rarity. He seems like he should be so much better, but so far he has kinda Duranted. Doesn’t mean on a new team he wouldn’t be better though, maybe Nanz just sucks at utilizing him.
31. Timberwolves Guy Rodgers PG 28 6'0'' 197 B- A- A A- C C
Guy was a turnover whore, but, then he got Post Padded, so he partially fixed that issue. He is a very good PG, but, with all the talent on that Timberwolves team, its tough to say he should be doing more than he is. So I put him here, below a couple other Point Guards though…of course when I made this list he was doing 20 points 10 assists, but the Timberwolves went to an inside focus. So he shows a shitty 15.9 Points 9.3 assists. He steals well though, and is great from three at 45.8%.
30. Nets Shorty Patterson PG 26 5'10'' 156 C+ A- A- B D- C
Shorty is sick, he scores, takes excellent care of the ball, passes….but he is an awful rebounder. He has excellent stats, 23.7 points 8.3 assists, only 1.4 turnovers, vs. 1.7 steals. His D is a bit meh though, and he looks an awful lot like Paul Neumann, only worse rebounding, but he sims so well.
29. Bucks Lenny Wilkens PG 26 6'1'' 183 C+ A- A- A- C A
Honestly with Shorty being locked up and Lenny expiring, I probably should put Shorty here, but I didn’t, so sue me. Lenny is sick, doing 24 points 8.7 assists 6 boards on 50.2% from the field, 90.1% from the foul line and 43.7% from three, scary. Of course, he is also doing 3.2 turnovers, but, he gets 2.5 steals a game to help cover that issue, and one of these will go toward fixing that issue I think, I mean, hes 75+ handles, so whatever. On the other hand, he has been shit every other year, but, I was running inside focus for the last two seasons. He Rebounds, Scores passes and steals…4 outta 5 isn’t bad right?
28. Mavericks Willie Merriwether SG 26 6'3'' 203 B A C C+ C B
Meriwhether is a sick scorer, and he can rebound, pass a bit, and steal. Currently he is doing 33.3 points a game, with 6.6 boards 3.2 assissts. He shoots well from three and the FT line, and well yeah, hes just a sick scorer, and is locked up for a while, so I gave him this spot. He probably should be closer to the Ohl/lee range though.
27. Celtics Si Green SG 29 6'2'' 194 B- A B- A- C B
I love Si Green, he has an excellent outside game, plays great D rebounds, passes, steals enough and is shooting great percentages, as well as minimal turnovers. 25.2 points 6.2 boards 4.3 assists 1.7 steals, and is 29, locked up for three more seasons. A great all around player for sure, interchangeable with any of the next two, who all came outta the same draft class.
26. Rockets Tom Heinsohn SF 29 6'8'' 243 A- C C+ A A C
Heinsohn is a studly rebounder, with a superb jump shot, great passing skills, and the ability to block a few shots and steal a bit. He takes care of the ball well, and though right now his FG% is shitty, his last 3 seasons have been pretty solid, so I put him over Green based on the wing vs. Big argument. A very very good player.
25. Rockets Sam Jones SF 30 6'5'' 209 A- C+ B- B+ B C
Jones is older than his two cohorts at 26 and 27, but, he is also far far cheaper, having a beautiful contract certainly helps value, as does doing 25 points 8.6 boards 4 assists 2.1 steals 1.1 blocks, with only 1.2 turnovers, while shooting an absurd 54.6% from the field. I mean, he is playing outta his mind right now but is clearly a stud. He has however hit 30, and will need to be resigned after next season, so there are some issues. But I think his overall game with the contract puts him just above Green and Heinsohn.
24. Mavericks Lavelle Langston PG 27 6'1'' 170 C A+ B B+ D+ C
Langston is sick efficient, with nice steals. He isn’t going to dominate offensively, but, 20 points on 53% shooting from the field 93.8% from the Free Throw Line and 55.8% from three is crazy, he steals, takes pretty good care of the ball, and is just an all around stud. Yeah, maybe he should be below Lenny and Shorty since they can take over a game, but, Langston is a player you win titles with.
23. Bucks Dave DeBusschere SF 23 6'6'' 223 A- C C B+ B+ A
I really don’t wanna talk up Dave, cause there isn’t much to talk up really, he was sick after one sim, but since then I took him off option status, and went outside. Thing is he is only in year two, and I ended up with Beaty and Bellamy here, so I figured I better stick Dave, who is extremely similar, there as well. I think Dave can be better, but, for the sake of these rankings I stuck Zelmo and Bellamy ahead. Dave doesn’t block shots great, but he rebounds, amazingly well, and has a solid jumper. And takes care of the ball. Only in year two too.
22. Raptors Zelmo Beaty C 24 6'9'' 228 B C D+ A- A- A
Beaty looks like a sick Center, but he has some problems staying on the court. He does have the size, and he has a nice jump shot, something you want out of a big for sure, but he doesn’t block. That A scouted though is certainly promising, as is his ratings. He will need to improve the percentages though to be a dominant big.
21. Heat Walt Bellamy C 24 6'11'' 231 B D+ D+ A- A B
Bellamy gets the nod over Beaty and Dave despite them having a significant advantage in the fact that they have a jump shot because well, Bellamy is already dominating. 21.6 points 11.9 boards on 48.5% shooting is sick, and he takes care of the ball. Not much more to say, he is a year older, so maybe Dave and Zelmo get better than him, but for now I give Walt the edge.
