Most Valuable Players in BBS: Part 1 (50-36)
For the first time I decided to do something like this, cause I was tired of all the shitty ones and Skillz shows no signs of doing one like this. I focused on performance, potential, age, ratings and contracts, and this is completely subjective, I didnt use any formulas to decide, or anything like that. I will roll them out as I finish the writing, first 50-36, then 35-21, 20-11, and finally 1-10. Honestly I think I had a list of around 75 players to start with, though some I was pretty much certain would not be included, and paired it down to 50 by the end, though it wasnt easy, and I changed number 50 and number 49 two times after writing each of them up (had Boo Ellis and Walt hazzard, yes, Hazzard is not on. Then I had Reggie Harding, but he sucks, and Jimmy King, who I decided I couldnt put above Hazzard...who I didnt include.)
Without further ado

Part 3 can be found here
50. Knicks Wayne Worthington PF 30 6'9'' 226 A C C+ B B- D
Putting up 22 points and 8 boards with 3.4 blocks earns Worthington the last spot on the list…well, that and his very nice 9 million a year for four years contract. He does struggle with turnovers, which hurts his value I am sure, but he is pretty good offensively, and, as long as you play him at SF, a pretty good rebounder. He blocks well, and comes relatively cheap. A very nice 3rd option SF type.
49. Bulls Roger Strickland SF 23 6'5'' 200 C+ A+ D- C C B
Yeah, its funny to be including a guy who hasn’t played in a game this season, but, I have heard amazing things about the his actual ratings, and the guy screams scorer..considering his draft notes said no athleticism, no passing, solid handles. Play should probably find him some playing time.
48. Pistons Joe Caldwell SF 21 6'5'' 195 A- C C+ B C A
Caldwell really should be higher, but I cant get over the truly terrible outside game. I don’t see the Johnny Green type upside either. He has meh handles, nor is he a great rebounder, I mean, just kinda meh on him, otherwise he would higher. He is scoring around 18 points per 36 though.
47. Bobcats Eddie Miles SG 23 6'4'' 195 C+ A- C B- C- A
Miles comes in as another prospect outta the last draft, having a solid but unspectacular TC, he is a nice outside shooter, but will surely need to do something next TC, and again to really be a great player. Still as a top 5 projected pick, despite falling to 6, and with pretty nice looking ratings for a rookie you would think Miles turning into a York type player is reasonable.
46. Bobcats Dick Barnett SF 26 6'4'' 196 B- A- C+ B+ C+ B
Back to back Bobcats at 46 and 47, as new signeed Dick Barnett lands here. Barnett is pretty solid stats wise, and really only falls this low as he just got a max, but has yet to prove this is consistent. He also is putting up shitty rebound stats despite what is a solid rebounding rating. He is just solid all around though, but is a player who seems like he could die quick, ala Paul George.
45. Wizards Jerry Sloan SF 21 6'5'' 195 B- B C- A C+ A
Sloan looks sick, already a good defender, but, his offense is certainly blegh right now. Still he seems to have pretty nice potential, and has excellent defensive skills. Really his stats are shit though, I just love the look of his ratings right now, and my gut says he is gonna be a great 3rd option type if not better....no clue why.
44. Pacers Woody Sauldsberry C 29 6'8'' 226 B C- D- A- A- C
Now we get into at least more established players, Saulsberry is a superb shot blocker, leading the league at an astonishing 4.9 a game right now, and he is an excellent rebounder. So why is he only 44th, well, he likes to shoot, and this year especially he just isn’t very efficient at all, shooting 43.1 %. That Kinda D earns you a spot on this list, that O...pushes you down
43. Grizzlies Ira Harge C 22 6'9'' 225 B- C- D+ A- B A
Harge definitely is a bit of an enigma, I only had the 9 games before he got injured to go off of, but he had a nice TC, and appears to be a stud shot blocker. His O is pretty meh percentage wise especially, and he likes to shoot, but, on a rookie that may not be a bad thing…of course, if after he comes back from injury he stops blocking shots, he plummets on this, well, actually off this.
42. Clippers Frank Ramsey SG 32 6'4'' 203 B A C+ A+ C B
Ramsey is just a sick all around player, he can score, defend, rebound, pass, all of it. But despite that, he is also 32, which means that the market for him consists of teams looking to make the move to title contender, which is a smaller market than it should be, he has two years left on a standard rookie resigning max. Doesn’t really help or hurt him, the good news is he appears to have recovered quite effectively from the disastrous move to PG.
41. Bulls Lorenzo Carr SF 31 6'10'' 213 B+ A- A- A B- D
Carr is a superb all around player, who falls to 41 due to his age, and his contract, which is for 6 more years, running to 25 million at 37. He is an amazing defensive player though, with nice offense and excellent rebounding for a wing, but, at 31 and that contract you limit the market. That’s not even to say it’s a bad deal; he is certainly deserving of it right now, its just one that may scare off some GM’s.
40. Suns York Larese SG 25 6'4'' 186 B- A C- A- C C
York is a very good scorer, with solid D, though seemingly very little in the way of stats defense, he screams number two option outside offense type player. He is a pretty good rebounder but nothing really stands out….of course if he got to his preseason stats, that would be another story, where he put up 31 points a game. The current 25ish is just very nice, not amazing, and as such, he gets a very nice location.
39. Heat Kevin Loughery SG 23 6'3'' 193 C+ A C+ B+ C B
OK I WAS WRONG. Never woulda guessed Loughery could go down on his inside rating yet be a complete beast. 24.6 points on sick percentages, good rebounding great passing and solid steals with low turnovers, yep, he is good. The question is how much more developing does he have left, and I think that with the drop in inside he is probably pretty much done, ignoring AC's and the such, so I place him here, at 39, just ahead of his virtual twin York.38. Celtics Dean Hollis SF 32 6'10'' 230 B+ A+ C A- B+ C
Hollis is top 5 player, and yet I list him at 38. Why? Well, I have 126,750,000 reasons why, as in the amount left on his contract, running for five more years. To put it this way, you could have Johnny Green, Wayne Worthington, AND have room leftover for Don Ohl at the annual average cost of that contract. And by the last year of it, at 29 million+, thats over 1/3rd the Hard Cap. Scary
37. Bucks George Lee SG 27 6'4'' 206 A- A B- B- C- B
Lee is a great scorer, but what makes him up this high is his cheap contract, combined with being 27. His ratings are sick, he is super efficient, and well yeah. I mean, I cant really talk him up, cause I do enough talking up my players as it is.
36. Bulls Willie Jones SG 27 6'3'' 185 B A- B A C+ B
Willie deserves to be higher on this list, he really does, but, he struggles some with turnovers when he is the featured part of the offense, and he is expiring, which is sure to hurt any players value. That’s not to say he isn’t excellent, or that he isn’t deserving of higher value, but, turnovers suck out some peoples interest as does the expiring. If he resigns to a cheap deal though he would catapault up into the top 25, as he is a superb rebounder and passer for the SG position, and a pretty damned fine scorer.and defender.
