The 50 Most Valuable Players in BBS (Edition 2)
The list returns! We will be updating this list every two seasons to give GM’s a basis of value in the league and encourage argument and discussion. This list is subject to change, as I will edit upon my discretion after hearing about suggestions and omissions.
Once again, we take into account a player’s skill, age, ratings, production, and contract to generate his general value around the league.
No list is perfect so obviously there is a ton of room for debate.

Instead of analyzing every single player on this list, I am going to make general observations so this is easier to update and easier to do on a regular basis so I don’t have to write a 10,000 word article every two seasons.
Analysis:
Why Wilt No. 1? Well, everyone in the top 5 is really pretty interchangeable. Wilt, however, strikes me as the player who will be the most dominant for years to come down the road. He is already an elite rebounder and defender and his offensive game should emerge as well. 22/15/3 is just sexy. Oscar’s ability to play PG at SF also makes him very valuable.
Russell takes a hit from his previous position—3—because of his minimal progress offensively. While it is very clear that Russ will dominate the league defensively for years to come, he is still a very mediocre offensive player. Should be interesting to see whether he can change that stigma.
How are you going to build your team next? If you look at the top 20, bigs are pretty much running the league. Wilt, Russ, Petit, Flint, Dickerson, etc. all belong on that elite level. Maybe a better way to approach winning some games is to load up on wings/guards and get some defensive bigs because there seem to be fewer and fewer elite wing men?
Good job Memphis! I think everyone can now say that K.C. Jones is a more valuable player than Omar Green. Svedda was criticized by a few GM’s for this swap, but I think he won that trade handily.
How do we factor in age vs. production? It’s tough and completely arbitrary. For example, Hot Rod Hundley, Si Green, and Hal Greer are all ranked ahead of Paul Arizin, Red Kerr, and Bob Cousy—all superior players—but we have enough information to think that these guys will be more valuable long-term.
What about production vs. value? Rickey Francis is clearly a better player than a bunch of the guys in front of him but I’m guessing his ratings are going to scare some off, as you can see for what he's gone for.
Who do I think are some of the most underrated players in the league? Juno Tremont, Phil Martin, Vince King, Jarret Jordan, Kevin White, Jason Robinson, Red Kerr, Bob Petit.
Who do I think are some of the more overrated players in the league? Bob Cousy, Omar Green, Christian Gola, Dolph Schayes
Let’s see some feedback.
