These rankings are a mix of Team Rankings in PPG/OPPG, current roster after recent trades, strength of schedule in the 10 days, and Team Record. My weighting in the rankings is based pretty much in that order.
1. Team Rankings PPG: 7th (118.6) PPG OPPG: 2nd (106.3) Team Record: 30-8
Team Outlook: When I started writing these rankings I had the Knicks in the top spot based solely on team standings but if there's one team that seems to give the Knicks trouble every season it's the Bulls and that is why I decided to give them the top spot. The relatively outspoken GM Play has been very quiet this year and perhaps he's finally realized that proclaiming to have the best team, the best player, best C, best whatever every season is bad for your karma and finally maybe hopefully is finally learning to grasp that actions speak louder than words for all our sakes let's hope he doesn't win a championship this season as I think it'd be impossible to shut him up for a very long time.
2. Team Rankings PPG: 1st(121.5) OPPG:6th (107.6) Team Record: 29-6
Outlook:The Knicks started out the season and on the first edition of the Power Rankings as the #1 team. 50 days into the season and the Knicks are still going strong. Despite the constant barrage of trades and the questionable departure of Bobby Cook whom some GMs think could quite possibly be "the best player in the league the Knicks still continue to truck on. Skillz has never been known to sit on a team and despite his current track record some people really think it's retarded he traded Cook away, we'll see if Skillz proves us all wrong at the end of the season.
3. Team Rankings PPG: 11th (116.6) OPPG 7th (108.7)
Team Outlook: You'd be hard pressed to find a hotter team than the Thunder right now. Winning 9 out of their last 10 games and recently acquiring superstar guard Bobby Cook from the rival Knicks it really is hard to argue with the Thunder being the best team out West right now. The Thunder have the perfect combination of inside outside players. The backcourt of the age-less John Wall and Bobby Cook has to be the most dangerous in the league right now. Wall has battled injuries all year and is averaging a career worst 3.8TOPG but his numbers are still incredible for someone who should be on the decline of his career. The Thunder could be in one of the two top spots come the end of the season, we'll see how much the Bobby Cook benefits the Thunder or hurts the Knicks.
4. Team Rankings PPG:6th (118.9) OPPG: 14th (112.2) Team Record: 23-12
Team Outlook: The Hornets are another team that are quietly making strides to battling for the title. The Hornets seem to be one piece away from being a elite but I still think the Hornets along with the Nets, Pistons, Rockets, and Magic are still in the second tier. As their opponent team rankings show, the Hornets really need to find a big man defender to shore up the front line. Teams like the Bulls, Knicks and Thunder will demolish the Hornets in any playoff series with their front court presence but the Hornets just have to much talent to not be in a serious discussion for the championship.
5. Team Rankings PPG: 11th (118.0) OPPG: 8th (109.5) Team Record: 22-11
Team Outlook: The Nets GM needs has finally found the right DC and the Nets will be quickly climbing the rankings with defensive powerhouses in Alf Soljberg and Stephen Flint commanding the frontcourt . The Nets traded the ageless wonder John Wall still tormenting opposing point guards at the age of 36 but who has been injured for most of the season this year. Time will tell if the addition of McCallum over John Wall will pay dividends for the Nets but I do not see them dethroning the Bulls, Knicks or Thunder this year.
6. Team Rankings PPG: 7th (120) OPPG: 15th (112.7) Team Record 24-12
Team Outlook: The Rockets are #1 in the West but somehow are 6th in the Power Rankings. That is unfathomable to many and even I am surprised I have them this low but anyone who thinks the Rockets will be the #1 seed come the end of the season is only kidding themselves. Christian Gola has been lights out for them this year averaging almost 30 and 10 a game with 2bpg. Gola has been practically carrying this team himself for most of the season and will see if he can hold the pace.
7. Team Rankings PPG: 8th (118.3) OPPG: 17th (113.1) Team Record: 22-13
Team Outlook: The Magic have been steadily climb the rankings after such a slow start to the year. The team composed mainly of rookies and two three year old guys are seeming to play much better ball after acquring Raskauskas from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Perry Jones. The Magic will be dangerous for many years to come but their general inexperience I can not see them making it very far in the playoffs.
8. Team Rankings PPG: 3rd (120.3) OPPG: 25th(116.8 Team Record: 22-14
Team Outlook: When I wrote these rankings previously I said this would be the highest we would ever see the Pistons and while I was kind of wrong I was kind of right and the Pistons recently have been colder than what they were at the start of the season. I must say though Andy has surprised many people this year and his team on paper seems average at best but he is more than holding his own in the tough East.
9. Team Rankings PPG: 10th(116.7) OPPG: 16th(113.0 )Team Record: 21-14
Team Outlook: Much like the Pistons, the Nuggets are playing surprisingly above average. Julian Rooks has been superb for the Nuggets. The recent trade of Bunn and Harrison Barnes though is questionable and think this will hurt the Nuggets in the rankings. The lack of a legitimate defensive big man, even more so now with the departure of Bunn will hurt them a ton.
