The Still the Worst Award for Still Being the Worst Franchise in BBS History!
Atlanta Hawks
Last time we checked in on the Hawks, they had 8 playoff appearances, .456 winning percentage, and no finals appearances. So what have we got going now? Well, the Hawks have scratched out three additional playoff appearances, but have one more Contract Year to their history, and another GM without much interest. So it's a statistical oddity, but not a surprise, that their winning percentage remains .456. The only other team with as few playoff appearance has 19 more wins, so this one's a total no doubter.
The #CMONSON Award for Best GM Doing the Shittiest Job
Wilson Outlawz, Atlanta Hawks
Puuuuke. His return to BBS has been a total disappointment, but at least I don't have to read his posts! Zing! Lawz is doing nothing with his team. He built around tanking, has a lot of overpaid pieces, and it adds up to an Eastern Conference also-ran. The only way they can crack the top four in the East anytime soon is if they get seriously lucky with a ripoff deal, or if that Clippers pick hits big. Teams like Milwaukee, Cleveland and Orlando look to have much better futures, too, so I don't see anything mediocrity in Atlanta's future. And who can argue with a negative point differential in your Contract Year? Bad job by Outlawz so far.
The Definition of Mediocrity Award for... Being Mediocre
Greg, Dallas
Last time this went to Jeff, but if he were to get an award this time around, it would be for being directionless and uninterested. Why does he have Quincy Miller and JT Irish when he's trying to tank? Why not try to get picks and rookie deals for them to have a core next season. Jeff also like never posts or logs on, so maybe he's just lost interest.
Anyway, this one goes to Greg and the Mavs. Greg doesn't seem to stick to plans, so there's a lot of year-to-year change in Dallas. The league's been going around 36 seasons, and the Mavs have made the playoffs in 19, or just more than half of them. They've played 2967 games and won 50.8% of them. On average, they win under four games per playoff appearance. And with no finals appearances, it's clear the Mavs are a middling franchise. One possible resolution is to deal me Slick Leonard.
Best GM/Franchise in this Version of BBS
Mark Kelley, Phoenix Suns
It's still Mark! Play's added a finals appearance and has almost caught the Suns in the standings (.569 to .568 winning percentage), and Mark almost had to deal with the Contract Year (he would've made it), but his team still has the most wins and is tied for the most rings. Play looks like he'll get that fourth ring, and the most all-time wins, pretty soon. He already has the most playoff wins. But for now, Mark's done more in fewer years. Insane is also in the running, but he's stumbled a bit in Miami and we'll see if he can get get himself in the picture in a pretty deep Eastern Conference.
Also deserving recognition: DBW had a ridiculous run of five straight finals appearance, is 2 for 7 overall; Broph has three rings and is probably one more great core away from being in the conversation; and Noves is back and has built another contender.
The Keep Up the Good Work Award
Christian Martinez, Los Angeles Clippers
Last time I did this article, Chris got awarded for being a terrible GM. Here's an excerpt of what I wrote:
Chris is an all-around classy broad who I enjoy these days. But he's terrible! The Clippers have 37 playoff wins. That's fewer than 1.25 per BBS season. A .385 playoff winning percentage. The Clips have just 13 playoff appearances, which isn't a surprise considering their regular season winning percentage is .440.
Since then, everything has gotten better in Los Angeles. They might had gotten their first finals appearance if not for a John Wall injury. They're up to 62 playoff wins. Their regular season winning percentage has climbed to 45.7%. And though they look terrible right now, they clearly have enough good, young pieces to build something really nice. It'll take some reshuffling, but the Clips look like their best years are ahead.
The Jesus Christ, Styro Award, for Jesus Christ, Styro
Is this guy just perennially rebuilding? Has he ever been in the playoffs? Has he ever had a winning season?
Here are some Styro seasons
1999 - 25-57
2000 - 18-64
2001 - 34-48
2002 - 33-49
2004 - 18-64
2005 - 13-69
2006 - 29-53
2013 - 34-48
2014 - 38-44
2015 - 39-43

2018 - 24-58
2019 - 31-51
2020 - 45-37

He always seems to bail before following through on a rebuild, but the only time he's left behind a good team has been in NJ. Otherwise he's never done anything. I hope he's enjoying his trip to New York!
