The #hotgarbage Award for the Worst Franchise in BBS History
Atlanta Hawks
Real shocker here. The Hawks have a list of illustrious former GMs -- among them, Biggie, UKFanJohn, and everyone's favorite
The #CMONSON Award for Best GM Doing the Shittiest Job
Donald Basone, Portland Trailblazers
Puuuuke. What a sad state of affairs in Portland. We're talking about one of the all-time good guys here, and a classy broad who has proven capable of building winners, but boy has Donald fallen off. Donald is tied for 14th in playoff appearances, a regular season winning percentage of .502, and is 23rd in the league in playoff victories with just 60. Don does have a ring, so established GMs like Skillz and Harry Haberdinger could also get this nod for having no rings and an unimpressive regular season win percentage, but they both have almost double Dan's playoff victories, and it's been a while since the Blazers have scared anyone. #cmonson.
NOTE: I wrote all this and then realized Andy has 13 playoff appearances and a .440 all-time winning percentage (more like losing percentage #canigetanamen? #damnson
The Definition of Mediocrity Award for... Being Mediocre
Jeff, Boston
Jeff's made the playoffs in about half the BBS seasons. He's won about half his regular season games. He's got just 55 playoffs wins and no finals appearances. That's mediocre. He's been in his CY twice and never had a season above 54 wins. That's mediocre too. Basically, Jeff's stayed afloat, built pretty good teams, never struggled too much and never dominated. And that deserves to be recognized #noitdoesn't.
NOTE:
Greg actually might deserve this award instead of Jeff but once again I already wrote it. Greg's got a higher winning percentage, which you'd think would make him less mediocre than Jeff, but Greg's puts his .02 points below .500 all-time. He's also got the 15 playoff appearances with no success, and his playoff win percentage is also closer to .500.
The JAH is the Bad Version of DJ Award for Being the Bad Version of DJ
JAH
JAH and DJ seem to have pretty similar strategies. They value solid regular seasons and playoff appearances, and don't fixate on achieving that much more. That means neither guy will go crazy for RCs and ACs, nor will they be the most active GMs on the trade market (although DJ far ahead of JAH in this regard). Their results aren't so similar though. DJ has a league-best 24 playoff appearances with 2 finals appearances and one ring; JAH, a pretty solid 19 playoff appearances, with 36 fewer playoff victories, 100 fewer regular season wins, and one finals appearance, a loss. Neither guy sets himself up to have long runs atop his conference, but both DJ and JAH know how to keep themselves in that 6th-8th seed range. DJ's just done it with more consistency and better results.
Best GM/Franchise in this Version of BBS
Mark Kelley, Phoenix Suns
It's a three man race for this award. Insane, Play and Mark all stand head and shoulders above the rest of the league in this version. Insane's recent run of unparalleled dominance might create a recency bias in his favor, but Mark has hands down done the better job. He's built more winners, won more regular season games, made the playoffs more times. Play and Insane are pretty much neck and neck for second place -- similar regular season success, 21 playoff appearances apiece, and while one has more rings, the other has a leg up in finals appearances. But Mark beats both pretty much everywhere (Play has 6 finals appearances to Mark's 5), so good for him.
The STFU Award for Talking a lot of Shit and Being Really Bad at BBS
Christian Martinez, Los Angeles Clippers
Chris is an all-around classy broad who I enjoy these days. But he's terrible! The Clippers have 37 playoff wins. That's fewer than 1.25 per BBS season. A .385 playoff winning percentage. The Clips have just 13 playoff appearances, which isn't a surprise considering their regular season winning percentage is .440 #roasted. It's weird because I feel like Marty is always saying something about having a good team or some shit #lold #doubleroasted.
The #IHeartGerry Award for Best Player in BBS History
Gerald has career averages of 28.4 points, 49.4% FG, 8.8 rebounds, 2.4 blocks, 1.7 steals and just 1.1 turnovers a night. He has 10 seasons above 30 PPG, 6 seasons above 3 bpg, 5 seasons above 2 SPG, and 5 seasons above 10 RPG. When I dealt him after 2007, he was coming off a year in which he did 31 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks a night. That was his seventh year. It's 2020 now and the past two years were his only ones since in which he didn't average 30 PPG, and probably the only two during which he hasn't been the best player in the league. He has over 41,000 points and 12,850 rebounds for his career. I dealt him in 2007
The Retirement Home Award
Philadelphia 76ers
Yikes. #Talkabouthistory you know? The 76ers have four guys 35 and above, and 3 more above 30. It's pretty cool that Lumley's been able to pair Deron Williams and Gerald Wallace. Would've been really cool had he gotten them a few years earlier, because lolz they're 38 and 36 respectively. Do you know what? If someone were to stop me right now and say Aaron, you've run out of ideas and are just trying to fill space now, I would have to say you know what Chris, you're absolutely right.
