2016 Draft Notes
While no one player really jumps out at you Evan Dickerson will probably go first overall. His combination of inside scoring and upside make him very intriguing. On the downside he isn’t much of an athlete, and he isn’t a very good post defender. He is an exceptional post scorer though, and he should block some shots. He should be a 20-10 guy within 3 years.
Here is a look at the rest of the draft class.
Centers…
Dez Ford C 6'11'' 280 20 B C- D+ C+ B A…Ford is so strong. He is probably the strongest player in the league already. He is a beast down low offensively. Ford is also a pretty good rebounder. He isn’t much of a defender also can’t block shots. Ford also isn’t very athletic.
Li Guo Wang C 7'2'' 260 20 B+ C+ C+ C- C A… Wang is a great offensive player. He might be the best pure scorer in the draft. He is a great low post scorer. He can post up, or face up. He is a very good shooter as well. Wang is a steady ball handler that passes well and doesn’t turn the ball over. Lets just not talk about defense or rebounding because he’s horrible at both.
George Hall C 7'1'' 290 22 B+ F D+ C+ B A… Hall is a very good inside scorer. Hall has very good strength and is a pretty good athlete for his size. Hall is also a good shot blocker, probably the best in his class. His jump shot and free throw shooting are horrendous.
Andre Hixon C 7'0'' 225 20 A- D+ D+ B- C+ B… Hixon might be the best low post scorer in the draft. He has great touch around the basket, but is also extremely strong. His free throw shooting is pretty mediocre. Defensively he’s pretty raw. Probably wont ever be more then an offensive specialist.
Jackson Holman C 6'11'' 301 19 C+ C D+ B- B- A… Holman is huge and young, two great qualities for a center. Holman also has a surprisingly good mid range game. Holman is extremely strong too. Defensively he isn’t special. Mostly he’s just raw. With time he could develop into something though.
Power Forwards…
Josue Linville PF 6'7'' 225 20 B C D+ B C+ B… Linville is the best power forward available. Having said that, he probably won’t go in the top 20. He can score some and block some shots. He’s undersized though and Might be better suited for small forward.
Small Forwards…
Ricky Roe SF 6'9'' 226 21 B A- B- C C B… Roe is a very good scorer. He isn’t athletic, so his scoring attributes are high. He can score inside and out. He could start from Day 1 at small forward. Doesn’t defend or rebound much and doesn’t have much upside. Probable lotto pick.
Julysses Hall SF 6'7'' 220 21 C C- B B+ B- A… He is extremely good at anything that doesn’t involve scoring. He’s a pretty solid defender who can get blocks and steals. He is a solid ball handler and above average passer for his size. Hall is also a very good rebounder. Best of all he has big time upside. Just don’t ask him to score.
Sergio Bender SF 6'7'' 250 21 C+ C+ C+ B+ C+ B… Bender is a solid two way player. He has a nice jump shot and is a very good ball handler. He’s a pretty good passer for a small forward also. He’s a good defender and rebounder who can get some blocks and steals. Might be a solid 5th starter at small forward.
Grant Nelson SF 6'7'' 222 22 C+ C C- A C+ B… Nelson is s smart player who excels on defense. Nelson thrives on man to man defense. He might get some steals but most of his defensive grade is just head to head defense. Nelson is also a good jump shooter who really takes care of the ball well.
Hakeem Talib SF 6'6'' 215 23 C+ C+ C- A B- C… Talib is a pretty solid small forward. He can really defend and is also a pretty good rebounder. Talib is just average offensively but he does have some range on his shot. Talib doesn’t have much upside left.
Shooting Guards…
Isaac Woods SG 6'1'' 187 20 B C+ C+ C C+ A… Woods is a pretty nice shooting guard prospect. Woods can score inside and out, he’s a pretty good athlete who is exceptionally strong for his size. Woods is a pretty nice passer, but he’d be a big TO problem at point guard. He isn’t very good defensively, but his rebounding is a plus at only 6-1.
Matthew Johengen SG 6'5'' 220 20 C+ B C B- C- A… Johengen is a solid two way player that can do a little bit of everything. He can score inside and out, he can handle and he’s a pretty solid man to man defender. He doesn’t rebound too well for a guard and he’s limited athletically.
Khalid George SG 6'3'' 205 22 B- C+ C+ B D+ A... George is a pretty well rounded player that has really good athleticism. George isnt a great mid range shooter, but he can get to the basket and he has a solid 3 point game. George is a good passer, but he has some handling issues. George is a ball hawk on defense, he loves to get steals. His man to man defense isn't that great.
Tyson Jackson SG 6'2'' 175 20 C A- C- C+ C- A… Jackson is an undersized athletic two guard that loves to shoot. He is a great free throw shooter with range out to 25 feet. He is extremely quick, but his ball handling issues and his lack of passing should keep him at SG. Defensively he is just average, although he might get some steals.
Mark Lewis SG 6'6'' 228 20 C B D+ B D+ A… Lewis is a solid guard prospect that might go lotto. He is a good shooter with 3 point range. Athletically he isn’t special, but he’s good enough. What sets him apart is his defense, especially blocks and steals. He might be a better fit at small forward.
Allan Avery SG 6'2'' 202 21 B B C- C+ C B… Avery is a quick undersized shooting guard that loves to score. He loves the ball in his hands and is a volume shooter. Avery is a true shooting guard despite his lack of size. He doesn’t pass much, and he turns it over a bit.
Anson Matthews SG 6'5'' 205 21 C+ B C- C D+ A… Matthews is a nice shooting guard prospect with a solid frame. Matthews is a nice athlete with a very good in between game. He is also a very good free throw shooter. He doesn’t defend well, but he has some upside so he might get better.
Earl Dawson SG 6'2'' 177 19 B- C+ C+ C C A… Dawson is one of the more raw players in this draft, but he has impressive upside. He can score inside or out, although his jump shot gets shakier as he gets closer to the 3 point line. Dawson is a great ball handler that makes few mistakes with the ball. Dawson is also a decent passer and rebounder. This guy is all about upside. If he can develop he good be very good one day.
Point Guards…
Broderick Hayes PG 6'3'' 200 22 C B- B+ B+ C A… Hayes is super quick and a very good passer. Hayes has a nice jump shot on offense but his 3 point shot is inconsistent, and he doesn’t get to the basket much. Defensively Hayes can create some steals and should be a very good defender overall. Turnovers might be a problem.
Luis Nazario Hartley PG 5'8'' 160 19 C+ C B A D A… Hartley is a great defender. He is so quick and such a good man to man defender. He also gets tons of steals. Hartley scores mostly from midrange, but he has the speed to get to the basket. Hartley might also have some TO problems.
Darian McCutchan PG 6'2'' 203 20 C B C+ A C B… McCutchan is a very good defender. He is a solid man to man defender that can also get some steals. McCutchan is a good athlete that can run and jump and he’s also pretty strong. McCutchan is raw offensively, but he has a nice jump shot.
La'Shon Lesser PG 6'1'' 170 22 B C- B+ B+ D B… Lesser is a great time management point guard. He almost never turns it over. His assist to turnover ratio should be great. Lesser does well getting to the basket and scoring inside. He isn’t much of a jump shooter, and his range is about 18 feet at most. Lesser is a pretty good overall defender that gets a good amount of steals.
LaDaniel Graham PG 6'3'' 225 20 B C+ B- C+ C+ B… Graham is a good athlete with good strength and size for a PG. His rebounding is quite amazing for his size and he loves to get to the basket on offense. His strength for a point guard is amazing.
