2006 draft – 10 years later
These players are nearing the end of their careers. Only a few players are still producing at a high level. Now is a good time to look back at their careers up until now.
Original draft notes - www.bbs2010.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=06draft&thread=6649&page=1
1. Philadelphia - Rajon Rondo PG 6'1'' 171 20 B- C B- B+ C A
Current ratings 29 6'1'' 180 B+ C+ A A C C
Rajon has had a very solid career and been named to the all-defensive team twice and the all-league third team in 2012. He is still playing at a high level and averaged 15 ppg and 12 rpg last year. Looking back it is hard to fault his being picked first but he was clearly not as good as the second pick.
2. Golden State - Brandon Roy SG 6'6'' 215 22 B B+ B- B- C B
Current ratings 31 6'6'' 227 B+ A- B A- C C
Originally drafted as a shooting guard, he was moved to pg and prospered there. He has averaged at least 21 ppg, 10 apg and 6.4 rpg in each of the last 5 years and been named to the all star game each of the last 2 years. Looking back most people would have taken him first over Rajon.
3. New Jersey - Joakim Noah C 6'11'' 232 21 B- C C B+ B+ A
Current ratings 30 7'0'' 247 B- C C A- A D
An absolute monster from the get go. Averaged 11 boards and 19.5 ppg in his first year and hasn't looked back. For his career he is averaging 20 ppg and over 12 rpg!! Shot a high fg % throughout his career and even hit fts at an 82% rate. I don't think that he would be drafted before Roy if a redraft was done today but there definitely would be people who would draft him in front of Rondo.
4. Houston - LaMarcus Aldridge PF 6'11'' 240 21 B C C- B- C+ A
Current ratings 30 6'11'' 249 A- C+ C- A B+ C
A solid player who never really reached his potential. Never received a major award. Averaged only 1 bpg and averaged 18/10 for his career. Solid numbers but not what you want out of a top 4 pick. Still, given the rest of the class, he probably would be drafted at 4 again if a redraft was done today.
5. Houston - Rudy Gay SF 6'9'' 220 20 B- C+ C- B C A
Current ratings 29 6'9'' 230 B A- C A- C C
A major disappointment as a top 5 pick. A decent starter most of his career but averaged over 20 ppg only once and 15 ppg only 3 times. Underutilized? Maybe so. But that is not the production you expect out of a top 5 pick. This was a very weak draft. Did I say that already? Maybe but it bears repeating. He still would go top 10.
6. Chicago - Andrea Bargnani PF 7'0'' 225 20 B- B C C C A
Current ratings 29 7'0'' 231 B B+ C B- C C
What a waste of potential. He only started one year in his BBS career. He was a solid role player but was a poor rebounder for his height. He was a decent enough player but didn't really stand out at anything.
7. Charlotte - Tyrus Thomas PF 6'9'' 215 20 B- C- D+ B- C+ A
Hasn't been in the league since I have been here so I would say he was a major bust. As far as I could figure it out he got drafted by Hype and dumped off on Mops and never resigned after his rookie contract. BUST.
8. Dallas - Paul Millsap PF 6'8'' 245 21 B- C D B- B B
Current ratings 30 6'8'' 253 B- C D- B- A- D
I have always been a fan of the Millsap type player. A backup pf/c who can rebound. He averaged 13.3 ppg and 9.6 rbg in only 28.5 mpg. That is great production from a non-starter. He wouldn't go top 5 in a redraft but top 10 is not out of the question.
9. Minnesota - Thabo Sefolosha SF 6'5'' 215 22 C+ C B- A- C B
Current ratings 31 6'5'' 222 B- B B A C C
Another guy you would like to have on your team, just not as a starter. He is a top defender and made the 2012 all defensive team but never developed into a scorer, averaging over 10 points just 3 times in his career.
10. Portland - J.J. Redick SG 6'4'' 190 22 C A- C- C D A
current ratings 31 6'4'' 197 C A+ C- C+ C- C
Redick turned out exactly as expected. Big time shooter but little else. His lack of defense limited his time until he got to Dallas. In the last 2 years he has been averaging over 22 ppg shooting an unreal 50% from 3pt land as well as 90% from the line.
11. Portland - Leon Powe PF 6'8'' 240 22 B- C- D+ C+ B- B
Current ratings 31 6'8'' 243 B- C- D C A- C
Good rebounder, poor defender. A Paul Millsap type but a step behind. He got solid minutes for years and even averaged a double double in 2013. Shannon Brown or Sergio Rodriguez would have been better in hindsight but as they say hindsight is 20-20.
12. Atlanta - Ronnie Brewer SF 6'7'' 220 21 B- C C B C- A
Another guy that I don't remember ever seeing. BUST.
13. Toronto - Shannon Brown PG 6'4'' 205 20 B- C C B- C A
Current ratings 29 6'4'' 217 B A- A- B C C
Maybe the steal of the draft or at worst right behind Sergio Rodriguez. In the last 4 years he has made the first or second all defensive team 3 times. He has been a starter for most of his career and averaged over 15 ppg, 5rpg and 5 apg. Great value at #13.
14. LA Clippers - Daniel Gibson PG 6'2'' 190 20 C A- C C D A
Another guy who disappeared after his rookie contract. BUST.
15. LA Clippers - Randy Foye SG 6'4'' 210 23 B- B- C+ C+ C- B
He is not in the league now but I remember him so he hung around for awhile. He was a guy who was close to the end of the bench and when he got off it he didn't do anything spectacular. Last ratings I could find for him were at the age of 25 6'4'' 210 C+ B+ C+ C+ C- C. Improved very little. Bust.
16. LA Clippers - Sergio Rodriguez PG 6'3'' 168 20 C+ C+ B- C D+ A
Current ratings 29 6'3'' 177 A- A B+ C+ C C
Probably the steal of the draft. Has continued improving as he gets older. He has averaged over 25 ppg in the last 2 years. Never a great defender and usually played at sg. Has a nose for the ball, averaging 1.3 spg for his career. Not as good a pure shooter as Ridick but more prolific. Would move up about 10 spots in a redraft.
17. Detroit - Guillermo Diaz SG 6'2'' 192 21 B- B C C D+ B
Current ratings 30 6'2'' 193 B- B+ C- C D+ D
Never improved much. His best year was his rookie year when he averaged 21.5 ppg. Never did much except for score. He managed to have more turnovers than assists for his first 6 years!! That is not something you see everyday. Nowadays he is no longer referred to by his name, he is just called Vet FA.
18. Dallas - James White SG 6'7'' 200 23 B C C- C C A
Not in the league. Last ratings I found for him were 26 6'7'' 200 B+ C C- C C B so it looks like he never lived up to his potential. He was in the dunk contest at some point. I don't know if they are still considered busts at 17.
19. Atlanta - Adam Morrison SF 6'8'' 205 22 C+ B+ C C D A
Current ratings 31 6'8'' 209 C A- C+ C D- C
A scorer who could do little else. His best year was his third year when he put up 22.8 ppg. Always had solid %s and scored when given the chance.
20. Toronto - Oleksiy Pecherov C 7'0'' 234 20 C+ C+ D- C+ C+ A
Not in the league. Claim to fame was being traded for AI. www.bbs2010.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=trades&thread=8242&page=1
Ok, maybe he was just a throw in but there is really nothing else to remember him by.
21. Charlotte - Jordan Farmar PG 6'2'' 180 19 C B- B- C C- B
Not in the league. Played out his rookie contract and made no mark. Last ratings I found were 21 6'2'' 180 C B- C+ C C- C. Pretty bad.
22. San Antonio - Yotam Halperin PG 6'5'' 210 22 C A- C+ C D+ B
Current ratings 31 6'5'' 210 C A B C+ C- D
He has been a solid backup pg since entering the league. A great pick at 22. The Heat are starting him for the first time in his career at the age of 31 and he is putting up very solid numbers.
23. Chicago - Marcus Vinicius SF 6'8'' 225 22 C+ B- C- B C B
Not in the league. He was on the Suns last year and he is not on the fa list, anyone's roster or the retirings list. The league office refuses to comment on his whereabouts but his family insists that he was kidnapped by aliens.
24. New York - Renaldo Balkman SF 6'8'' 208 22 B- C- C- B B- B
Not to be confused with Renaldo Blackman who was a solid ballplayer. Last know ratings were 26 6'8'' 208 B C- C- B- B C. He hung around for a few years but now he is out of the league.
25. New Jersey - Shawne Williams SF 6'9'' 225 20 B- C C- C+ C+ B
Last know ratings were 25 6'9'' 225 B- C C C+ B- C. He hung around for a few years but now he is out of the league. Pretty much the same as Balkman.
26. Detroit - Kyle Lowry PG 6'0'' 175 20 C+ C+ C+ B C B
Last known ratings 23 6'0'' 175 C+ C C+ C+ C D. Writing about him is a waste of time.
27. New Jersey - Patrick O'Bryant C 7'0'' 260 20 C+ C- D+ B C+ B
Ditto.
28. Charlotte - Cheikh Samb C 7'1'' 245 21 C D D B+ C C
Last known ratings 29 7'1'' 253 C D D- B+ C F. about him is a waste of time.
29. Atlanta - Craig Smith PF 6'7'' 265 22 B C- D+ C+ C+ B
Current ratings 31 6'7'' 271 B- C- D B- C+ C
If he is still around that is a sign that he was a solid pick at 29. Didn't play much and was nothing special but he did occasionally get off the bench and that is something for a pick at 29.
Second round picks who made their mark – Marcus Williams, P.J. Tucker. P.J. Tucker was an unbelievable pick at 39
.
The top 10 redraft
