2015 BBS Draft Notes…
The #1 pick in this draft should be Andrew Wiggins. He has amazing size and strength. He is pretty athletic for his size, and he’s already a very good scorer and defender. At only 20 years old he also has a ton of upside and should be one of the best centers in the league one day. Wiggins is a pretty easy selection at 1.
Here is a look at the rest of the draft...
Centers…
Sean O'Mara C 7'1'' 305 19 B+ C- D C+ B- A…O’Mara is an amazing inside scorer. He can score down low like few others. O’Mara is extremely strong and should block some shots as well. On the down side O’Mara is a pretty poor athlete. Expect O’Mara to be a very good center.
Ryan Miller C 6'11'' 250 19 B- C C B- C+ A…Miller is a good athlete for his size that can really shoot. He has range out to the 3 point line and he should only get better. He is a very balanced player that doesn’t do anything exceptional, but does everything well. Should be a solid lotto pick.
Alec Harper C 7'0'' 252 22 B+ C- D B C+ B…Harper is kind of similar to O’Mara with a little less upside. Harper can score inside, and is extremely strong. Harper can also block some shots. Harper isn’t much of an athlete but he should be a solid inside scorer. He is probably a late lotto selection.
Brandon Morris C 7'4'' 270 20 B+ C D C+ C B…Morris is an offensive minded player. He can score inside and he has a nice jump shot, but he does little else. He isn’t much of a defender, and he can’t really board. He should be a nice role player though.
Power Forwards…
DeMarcus Cousins PF 6'11'' 260 24 B+ C- C- B- B+ A…Cousins is a very good inside scorer and rebounder. He has solid strength and a very good post game. He scorers extremely well from down low and gets to the foul line a lot. Cousins isn’t a shot blocker and doesn’t defend well, but his scoring and rebounding are very impressive.
Andre Drummond PF 6'10'' 251 20 C+ D D B- B A…Drummond is a big time shot blocker. That’s all most teams will need to know. Drummond is also extremely strong and a very good defensive rebounder. Drummond is a lost cause offensively, but he has upside and should be a stud defender.
Dwight Stone PF 6'8'' 225 21 C+ D+ D+ B+ B+ A…Stone is a very good post defender and can block some shots. He isn’t in Drummond’s class as a shot blocker, but Stone will get some. Stone is also a plus rebounder. Stone is a very solid player that may start from Day 1.
BeeJay Anya PF 6'9'' 280 20 B- D D+ C+ B- A…Anya is a very strong player that has some upside. He is a smart player that doesn’t turn the ball over. He doesn’t shoot FT’s well or block shots. He should be a solid player though.
Allyn Camby PF 6'11'' 240 20 B- C- C- B+ C+ B…Camby is a solid all around player. He can defend some and block some shots. Camby is a decent post scorer and FT shooter, but he isn’t special offensively. Camby would be a solid mid 1st Round pick that could one day be a starter.
Quentin Oakley PF 6'10'' 246 22 C B D B C+ A…Oakley is a shooter in a big body. Oakley is a great midrange shooter and has range out to the 3 point line. He plays the passing lanes well and creates steals, but he doesn’t block shots or rebound especially well for his size. He’s also pretty weak physically.
James McAdoo PF 6'8'' 220 22 B+ C C C B B…McAdoo is a very good offensive player and rebounder that lacks any desire to play defense. McAdoo can’t defend man to man, but he does get some blocks would could make him a passable starter at some point. Offensively McAdoo can score down low, but he does most of his work on the fast break as a finisher.
Small Forwards…
Landry Fields SF 6'7'' 210 27 B+ C+ C B+ B B…Fields is a BBS ready player that should start from Day 1. He can score inside and out, defend and rebound. Fields is actually a plus rebounder for his size. He is also a very good ball handler. Might go top 3 just because he’s so ready.
Kuran Iverson SF 5'9'' 220 20 C+ C+ B C+ B A…Iverson is a great utility player. He isn’t much of an offensive player, although he is a solid FT shooter. He is a plus passer and an amazing offensive rebounder. He isn’t special athletically, but he can do a little bit of everything.
Dmitri Morozov SF 6'11'' 225 19 C+ B- C B+ C+ B…Morozov is a very good shot blocker and ball stealer. He is also a pretty good rebounder. All of these things are benefited by his amazing size and length for a SF. He is 6-11 but his wingspan is 7-4. Offensively Morozov isn’t great, but he has a nice mid range game.
Jesus Calderon SF 6'9'' 225 20 B C+ D+ B C C...Calderon is a combo forward that can score inside and defend a little. He should be a solid backup F that would be a nice late Round 1 selection.
Shooting Guards…
Dan Davis SG 6'6'' 214 20 B- C+ C B C A…Davis is a nice shooting guard that can succeed at both ends of the floor. Davis is a good defender that can get steals. He is also a pretty solid offensive player that can score inside and out. He should be a very good lotto selection.
Brad Beal SG 6'4'' 200 22 B- B- B C C A…Beal is a very good offensive player with great passing ability. Beal is a good scorer that has solid range out to the 3 point line. Beal is pretty mediocre defensively. Beal also has a bit of a TO problem.
James Blackmon Jr. SG 6'4'' 190 19 B- C+ B- C C- A…Blackmon is extremely talented and extremely raw. He can score well inside, and is a pretty good athlete. Blackmon handles the ball very well and has range out to the 3 point line. Defensively he is pretty mediocre and he isn’t much of a rebounder. Still Blackmon has enough upside to be a lotto selection.
Martin Curry SG 6'4'' 203 21 C+ B C+ B C- B…Curry is a solid player. He can score inside and out, and pass some. Curry is also a decent defender that can grab some steals. Curry isn’t an impressive athlete and has pretty limited potential.
Point Guards…
Seth Curry PG 6'3'' 180 25 B- B+ B- C D+ A…Curry is a very good athlete that loves to score. He can score inside and out, and while he can pass he seems to be a better fit at SG. At PG his ball handling deficiencies will be magnified. Curry is also a pretty poor defender. Still, he should be a lotto pick.
Tito Matthews PG 6'2'' 225 21 B+ C C+ C+ C- A…Matthews is a strong physical player that really loves to attack the basket. Matthews is super quick and athletic. Matthews isn’t the best ball handler, and his defense is just mediocre. Still expect Matthews to be considered late lotto.
J-Mychal Reese PG 6'3'' 190 21 B+ C+ C+ B- D B...Reese is a good low post scorer at PG. He does a great job of using his size and strength against smaller PGs. Reese has an inconsistent jump shot. Reese is also a pretty poor athlete. Reese is a solid player with questionable upside.
DeAndre Dotson PG 6'2'' 194 21 C B+ C B+ C B…Dotson isn’t really a true PG, but he isn’t big enough to play SG consistently. Dotson doesn’t pass well, but he’s a very good athlete and he can shoot. Dotson is also a pretty good defender. His ball handling and lack of passing will probably push him over to SG eventually.
Jerry Barros PG 6'1'' 193 22 C B B- B D+ B…Barros is a backup PG. He can score some and handle and pass, but he isn’t great at anything. He should be a solid backup, but not more.
Aaron Craft PG 6'2'' 195 24 C B- C+ B C- B…Craft is a safe point guard. He handles the ball very well. He can really shoot from mid range. Craft is also a great ball stealer. Craft can’t really score inside and he doesn’t pass as well as you’d like. Craft is also pretty limited athletically.
Ian Morrison PG 6'1'' 192 22 C B C+ A C- C...Morrison is a great defender and ball handler that should get major combo guard minutes off the bench. Morrison is a plus FT shooter and has a great mid range game. Morrison is also a great ball handler. Morrison is a great defender who can not only get steals but play great man to man defense.
