The title sucks, get over it. I couldn't fit anything that mde sense into the space provided anyway.
Obviously, much ado is made over getting the first overall pick by tanking teams and with good reason, too. The first overall pick is usually going to be an extremely good player that a GM can build a franchise around. However, there are many great players that come out after the first pick, or even after the top 5. This article is going to investigate what I like to call (and just made up) the pick position to quality of playing ratio. Basically, the highest player is going to be the one picked the latest while playing the best. This is completely arbitrary and I'm sure I did a horrible job explaining it, but it makes sense in my head and will hopefully make sense in yours after you read this! This list only includes players that are currently in the league. Number 9 and 10 are going to be pretty weak and I don't even know if I am going to include them cause I can't really find any players that I want to put into the list. Here we go!
9. Qyntel Woods 19th overall selection. While Qyntel Woods is a shadow of his former self he was once a force to be reckoned with. Who the hell has even heard of Qyntel Woods before anyway? I have cause I used to play with the Blazers in NBA Live 2003, the only video game I have ever been good at. More on topic, Woods had a great string of 3 consecutive seasons where he scored over 26 PPG. With his highest season total at 27.8 PPG Woods was a great pick at 19 by the Knicks although he was obviously never destined to stay on Skillz team.
8. Andrei Kirleno 7th overall pick Kirlenko has quietly put together a string of quite good seasons that are exactly what you would want to see from your big man. AK47 has been right around 12 RPG and 4 BPG in addition to being in the high teens with his PPG while shooting decent percentages. AK47's activities these days include hanging out with DJ and the Raptors. Perhaps his productivity could be better on another more proactive team but as he stands his rebounds and blocks are elite and these statistics are certainly not to be expected out of your average #5 pick.
7. Marc Gasol 4th overall pick. Hard to argue that Marc Gasol wasn't a great pick at 4 when he is the best big man in the game. Is he the best big man in the game? Some homerism here? Maybe. I'm trying to be as objective as possible though. There is really nothing Marc can't do. He has had two breakout seasons with the Thunder and it could be argued that his stats would be higher if he wasn't on as loaded of a team as he was two years ago. His Rebounds and FG% are near the top of the league and also dishes to teammates close to 4 times per game. At pick #4 Gasol is great value
6. Rashad McCants 23 overall selection. Rashad's amazing transition from the stud scorer on a championship winning team at UNC to an equally amazing player in BBS has stunned most scouts. Rashad's streak of 20+ PPG seasons started his sophomore year and is still continuing. His past 6 seasons have been 25+ PPG seasons including a 30 PPG game season in 09, and is a huge contributor to the Suns playoff runs the past few seasons. I think he would be a little higher on this list if not for his TO's hovering right around 3 every season. However, you take the good with the bad when a 23rd pick is scoring at will.
5. DeMar DeRozan 12th overall selection. Broph kept building up DeRozan the first few seasons before he really developed and I certainly wasn't a believer, but he has developed into a true scoring threat. 32.5 PPG on 51% shooting? Yikes. DeRozan might have a very unique set of ratings with some ratings being far less than ideal but you can't argue with less than 1 TPG. However D+ handling does bring other questions into the fold. Is he capable of passing? How slow is too slow to be on the court? Unforunately speed isn't one of those things that shows up in the stats(in a way we can recognize anyway) With nothing to go by other than his PPG and low TO's DeRozan was a completel steal at 12
4. Martell Webster 27th overall pick. Talk about partying with your pants off! Two straight seasons of 29 PPG scoring from someone who has damn near the last pick in the first round. THAT AINT BAD. Look for Martell too continue to pour it in for the Heat as he is their only viable option at the moment. HF is looking to trade him the true Martell Webster might have to stand up when he is on a competitive team. This was actually the last player I did a write up for so I am completely pooped out. Why did I go out of order? Who knows? I do that on tests too. It's just whatever your more comfortable writing about. Thanks for your time!
3. Zach Randolph 12th overall pick. Omnipresent Celtic for life Zacharias Randolph(that's not his real name (Zbo) )has put together a string of amazing seasons few could have ever dreamed for him after being selected 12th overall. He's scored 30+ for 9 straight seasons. Sure go ahead and look at his player page and tell me he only scored 29.8 per during his 05 season and I'll tell you I don't give a shit. I'm not one for technicalities. Actually I am. I love them. But I am really starting to run out of steam here so I didn't feel like writing 8/9 although I just did it now so who's wasting time now? ME, that's who. Did I mention this asshole can rebound? He's averaging over 10 per for his career and he's a fat blob. Makes Sir Charles look like Lindsey Lohan amirite? Nope, you're not Andrew. You're not funny either. Moving on.
2. Gerald Wallace 5th Overall Selection. Of course G Wall's high draft selection hurts his ratio here, but he is so high on the list because he is the best player to date in this version(IMO). He is the best and the best all around. I don't really think it's close. His scoring numbers are astronomical, he can block, steal, and rebound like no other. He can singled handedly add 20 wins to your team, he is that good. Don't try to trade for him though, he is going to die a Cavalier, Tiger will make sure of that. G Wall is someone you would take #1 overall in a draft of every player in this version and for that he gets the distinction of being the second best bang for your buck player.
1. Martynas Andriuskevicius Rd 2 Pick 14. How many DPOY awards has this guy won? He's pretty much a lock for that every year when the Regular Season Awards are up. M.A. is clearly number 1 here for being a top 5 big man and being selected at a time in the draft when Spence is busy autoing everything. No one gives a shit about the 2nd Round. Some people pretend to do, but it's really not the case. M.A. might have the highest SPG+BPG combo in the leauge, but I am not looking that up. Combined with his low TO's and scoring prowess, M.A. is the ultimate steal in the draft and number 1 on this list. He reminds me of my main man Ivan Chiriaev from last version, minus the terrible contract! lulz.
Pictures would probably make this article look longer and thus get me a better score. We'll see what I can do!
