1st Round:
1. San Antonio Spurs - Micheal Ray Richardson PG 6'5'' 189 21 B C A- A- C+ A
Grade:A-
Analysis: In a draft with three guys with all number one potential, no one can knock drafting Michael Ray Richardso with the number one pick. I personally would have drafted MRR with the #1 pick as well since he'd fill a huge hole at me at the 1.(which I no longer have btw =]) MRR may not have been everyone's top choice hence the A- grade but no if his TOs are taken care of and put under control, and he develops into the player everyone thinks he should be, he could be one of the best PGs in BBS history.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Portland Trail Blazers - Tree Rollins C 7'1'' 235 21 B- C D- A- B- A
Grade:A-
Analysis: Some people applauded the pick, many others were surprise to see Tree Rollins taken at the #2 spot before Adrian Dantley, though Broph has incredible faith in Rollins and sees him developing into a Nate Thurmond type of player which would be an incredible return at the #2 position. He's already over 85 at key attributes which is scary, now whether or not that will translate into production only time will tell.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Cleveland Cavaliers - Adrian Dantley SF 6'5'' 208 20 A- C+ D+ C+ C+ A
Grade:A
Analysis: Adrian Dantley was the majority of the leagues number one pick so for me to grab him at the #3 spot was incredible. I was actually very surprised when Broph when with Tree Rollins at the #2 spot. Grabbing Dantley also avoided a log jam for me at the 4/5 if I ended up with Tree Rollins. I think Adrian Dantley allows me to run an inside focus offensed with Dan Roundfield, Dantley, and World B. Free as my top 3 scorers, all three guys are potential 25-30ppg scorers which is fantastic, also having an inside focused PG in Dick Snyder will be tremendous.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. New Orleans Hornets - Robert Parish C 7'0'' 230 23 B- C- D B B A
Grade:B
Analysis: Not sure how I feel about this pick. I do like Parish and think he will be a solid player but not the player a team like the Hornets need right now. I have a feeling his potential is relatively low and he is maxed out. Taking someone like Alex English or James Edwards both who may have higher potential than Parish would have been my pick. Grade gets a B simply because I think Parish will be a good player but he won't ever develop to anything special without extreme RC and AC hlep which I don't see New Orleans GM doing.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Indiana Pacers - Alex English SG 6'7'' 190 22 B+ C+ C C C A
Grade:B+
Analysis:Big fan of this Alex English, I think he may be the best scorer to come out of this draft. Obviously huge concerns with his defense but I think he will more than make up for it with his scoring. Putting up 20-25ppg in his rookie year isn't unthinkable at all. Not a bad pick for the Pacers who fell out of the top 3 at all.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Boston Celtics - James Edwards C 7'0'' 225 20 B C- D B- C+ A
Grade:B
Analysis: Solid pick for the Boston Celtics, I think James Edwards has much more potential than Robert Parish. I think with some attention to his Strength and blocking Edwards can become a solid defensive big.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Los Angeles Lakers - Dennis Johnson PG 6'4'' 185 22 B C C+ A- C B
Grade:B+
Analysis: I really like this pick, I think Dennis Johnson has the potential to be a very good starting PG. He has high defense, decent scoring ability and rebounding. Again, with focus on his offensive attributes he can really become something good. At the #7 pick drafting a PG who can potentially be a floor general in the future is very solid.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. Philadelphia 76ers - Sonny Parker SF 6'6'' 200 21 B+ C C+ A- C+ B
Grade:A-
Analyis: To me the "steal" of the draft, Sonny Parker fell undoubtedly because of the vast amount of wings in the league already but I think Sonny Parker could be the best value pick of this draft. His ratings are unreal to start, and while concerns of his potential may arise, I think that B scouted potential isn't an indicator of low potential. Really like this pick.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9. Boston Celtics - Quinn Buckner PG 6'3'' 190 22 B- C+ B- A C- B
Grade:C+
Analysis: Not a fan of this pick, I think the next two PGs both should have gone before Buckner in John Lucas and Mike Dunleavy. I think Buckner will be high in turnovers and very low potential
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10. Milwaukee Bucks - John Lucas PG 6'3'' 175 23 C B B+ A- D B
Grade:B-
Analysis:Solid pick for the Bucks. John Lucas will be a very decent PG. His D rebounding may hurt though and he will never develop into a stud PG but no reason why having John Lucas as your PG with a team of studs at other positions would be a negative.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
11. Chicago Bulls - Mike Dunleavy PG 6'3'' 180 22 C+ B B C+ D+ B
Grade:C+
Analysis: Bulls went with the BPA in Mike Dunleavy, but not really a fan of the pick for them already having Gus Johnson at the PG position.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
13. Milwaukee Bucks - Alvin Scott SF 6'7'' 185 21 B- C C A C
Grade:C+
Analysis: This gets a C+ because there was no #12 pick, and I don't like the #13. Good analysis no?
