2026 Draft First Round in Review:
It sucked. No Really, After the top 4 picks you were getting nothing worth wasting your time on, maybe a nice role player, but, nobody worth really even a starting spot (Hopkins is pretty much trash, but if you like him make it after the first five, and Lear might be OK, though he seems to have regressed a bit) The top four are all pretty even, you really could like any of them the most…except maybe Heinsohn but damn that jumper is so nice. Oh well, not all drafts can be sick
1. Cavaliers -
Bill Russell C 6'9'' 220 21 B D+ B B+ A- A
Bill Russell C 24 6'9'' 229 B+ C- B- A A A
Russell was clearly the number one pick, he had the all around game seemingly outside the outside shot to become a truly dominant big man, yes, his outside shot would hold him back, but, we have seen what Flint has done, and regardless the effect defensively Russell was going to have made it an easy pick. Of course, he has yet to develop into the truly dominant big man offensively, but, on the defensive end of the court few can matchup to his overall studliness. I mean, yes, he has disappointed, going a total of +4, and really he is a negative offensively, but his Defense is so studly that it makes it easier to ignore. He is already a three time all star,, and in his third year he was the defensive player of the year, and this year is doing 13 boards 1.2 steals 3.6 blocks, so it makes the 17 points on awful shooting (43.4 and 70%) livable no? Can you really ask for much more than that?
2. Mavericks -
Tom Heinsohn PF 6'8'' 225 22 B C C+ A- B A
Tom Heinsohn PF 25 6'8'' 234 A- C C A A- C
Heinsohn is a ratings stud, but, his production has yet to back it up. He has been a pretty meh percentage guy, and while his Defense is great, its not due to blocks and steals…However, he does have one massive thing going for him, and that’s probably the best jump shot in the league and excellent rebounding ability. He is the only player in the top 3 not to receive an all star game nod, actually, multiple all star nods, and really he has spent most of his career as a second fiddle. Now he is stuck on a very good Knicks team doing a solid 17.4 points 11.2 boards, with a steal and 1.3 blocks, but that same damn FG% problem is still there, at 44.9%, with no place to show off his talent. He has the excellent ball handling, to make him a superb role player, but I really wanna see what he could do as a top guy on a team. With his ratings he is going to get a max, no doubt (I know if he tests I will), but, the question is will he fulfill his promise.
3. Bucks -
Sam Jones SF 6'5'' 200 23 B C C+ B C+ A
Sam Jones SF 26 6'5'' 206 A- C+ C+ A- B- B
After being hyped by me a lot, Sam has finally started living up to the expectations. His lack of a true three point shot hurts him of course, but, defensively he is excellent with sick steals, and very good blocks, he is a superb handler, amazing rebounder, and this year, he has brought along the offense to fill out his game, or well, improved his percentages. Yes, He is my player, so yes, I am bound to like him too much, and hype him excessively, but, he is doing 26 points 8 rebounds 2.4 steals 1.4 blocks for me on 49% shooting and 86% from the line. He has 2 all star game appearances, and an all defensive second team appearance. Is he the next G-Wall? No, but, he is a poor mans version, which I think is what I originally referred to him as.
4 Wizards -
Si Green SG 6'2'' 188 22 C+ B+ B- C+ D+ A
Si Green SG 25 6'2'' 188 B- A+ B A- C- B
Green may well be the best player in this draft, which is good, cause the Wizards needed the break. He takes care of the ball, rebounds ok, but most importantly the dude can shoot, and shoot very well. His FT% is currently quite low at 82.2%, but its obviously an underachievement since you have to have at LEAST 91 jump shot to have A+ outside rating. His scoring is just solid right now at 24 points (for a guy that could be a stud), but I gave to figure it is some DC glitch, he seems so efficient. He made the All Star game last year, but failed to return this year. Pretty good pick here.
5. Heat -
Bob Hopkins C 6'8'' 215 22 B D+ C- A- B B
Bob Hopkins C 25 6'8'' 215 B D+ C- A- A- C
Now we get to what amounts to be the shitty section of the draft…except it continues for the entire first round…sucks. Hopkins has nice ratings, but, is anybody really going to be willing to pay him the max this offseason? No? that’s what I thought, his production in no way matches up to his ratings, he is terribly mediocre offensively, and defensively he doesn’t block enough shots. The real loser in all this is the Lakers, cause they dealt away Guy Rodgers to get him and Dick O’Neal, another bust, of course, the Bobcats dealt for him and their picks back using Barker, but I think Bob Boozer was one of those picks, so its pretty solid.
6. Warriors -
Hal Lear PG 6'0'' 163 22 C B D+ B+ C- A
Hal Lear PG 25 6'0'' 163 C B+ C+ A C- B
Lear looked like he could be pretty damned good, after a TC, but, Game had him, so he really didn’t get any work, and turned into just a backup, which was the thoughts prior to the first TC. He is now on the Celtics, which are seemingly the place to go if you are a bust. He does however have a career high of 47 points, which is kinda sick, and he has nice defensive skills and seemed to take good care of the ball to start his career off, so maybe if given some AC work and a bit of attention he would be a Phil Martin type? Yeah, very possible. That of course would make him easily a top 10 Point Guard. So really maybe he doesn’t suck that much.
7. Suns -
Willie Naulls C 6'7'' 230 22 B C+ D C B+ A
Willie Naulls PF 25 6'7'' 236 B C+ D C+ A- C
Nauls kinda sucked after one TC, but DBW held out hope, and he disappointed. I mean, it wasn’t that he didn’t look nice, its just that all his rating gains were do to position changes and RC’s, he really never improved. Still, he is a nice backup 3/4/5 type. He is a nice rebounder, and while his percentages are shit, and he doesn’t block, he rebounds nice…and well, he rebounds nice, but that’s a nice thing outta a backup big. Hell, he is a career 39.7% shooter from three too. He takes care of the ball, rebounds, and maybe scores a little. Nothing wrong with that.
8. Jazz -
Bob Burrow C 6'8'' 235 22 B- D+ D+ A- C+ B
Bob Burrow C 25 6'8'' 235 C+ D+ D+ B B B
Burrow turned from a guy who actually provided something nice to your team (Defense), to a guy who provided meh everything. Of course, he is one of four jah picks in this draft, and amazingly they are all SO good that jah decided that he had to hold onto all four of them through their rookie contracts, cause, of course, they could all still blow up. That’s why you TRADE YOUTH. YES JAH STOP SITTING ON YOUR TEAM, YOU HAVE ONE STUD, FIGURE OUT A WAY TO GET ANOTHER…ugh. Rant over. Actually, no its not, Rosenbluth is not a stud, he is a fun player yes, but really not the kinda guy you wanna have around to try for a title, Campbell is meh, Your PG’s all suck, Franz doesn’t block shots…so you have Twyman, and Barnhill, though Barnhill didn’t do shit in TC and doesn’t have an outside shot. Its not like waiting around for 3 more seasons is gonna help you at all. Ok now its over.
9. Hornets -
Morris Taft PF 6'9'' 200 21 B- D+ D+ C+ C+ A
Morris Taft PF 24 6'9'' 200 B D+ C- B+ B C
Heh, Taft looks like with a bit of AC work he could be the 6th best player in this draft, I mean, yeah, he doesn’t play outside, nor does he block shots…but shit, this draft is so bad, it doesn’t take much. If you look nice, and can play ok, you are set. Actually, he doesn’t really play ok, he isn’t much of a shot blocker, or a scorer, or a rebounder. Meh, at least he was player of the game once, so he has that to hang onto.
10. Boston -
Jerry Bird PF 6'6'' 220 21 B- C+ D C+ C A
Jerry Bird PF 24 6'6'' 220 B- C+ D+ B- B- C
Bird Busted, which sucks, but at least it wasn’t Larry. Its almost disheartening that he is getting 30 minutes a game up in Boston, but shit is that bad for them. Actually, WTF, NO IT ISNT…How the fuck is this dude playing thirty minutes a game? He has
621 Dalmar Ghedi C 30 7'0'' 252 C C- D- B+ A- D
165 Ray Radziszewski C 24 6'6'' 220 B+ D+ D+ B- B B
536 Scott Carpenter PF 26 6'9'' 238 A- C+ C+ C B+ D
642 Woody Sauldsberry PF 25 6'8'' 220 B- D+ D A- B B
All who are easily better, WHAT THE HELL TANKING MOD, DEAL WITH THIS.
Anyway, dude sucks.
11. Pacers -
Phil Jordon C 6'10'' 210 23 C+ D+ C- B C+ A
Phil Jordon PF 26 6'10'' 214 C+ D+ C A- B- C
Hey, I have this guy, so he is obviously the best player, hands down in this draft…..or not, cause he sucks, a lot, I mean, dude, cant rebound, he doesn’t really block shots well at all, cant score. But, at least he has a nice defensive rating, which makes him a solid backup big maybe, but ehh, I would much rather have the guy a few spots down…who I picked. Sucks that this guy may well be a top 10 player in this draft…Why did I have to have four picks in this one.
12. Jazz -
Ron Sobie SG 6'3'' 185 23 C+ A- C C+ C- A
Ron Sobie SG 26 6'3'' 185 C A- C+ B C- C
Hey look, another Jah pick still on his roster, and another Jah pick who turned into such a stud, that he has gotten a grand total of 93 minutes over the course of his 4 years in the league….hell, maybe the dude is a stud and hasn’t been able to show it. Nobody knows though cause its not like he can just trade himself. Sitting on players works out amazingly.
13. Bucks -
Swede Halbrook C 7'3'' 235 23 C+ D+ D A- C+ B
Swede Halbrook C 26 7'3'' 238 C+ D+ D- A- B- C
Swede apparently should have gone at like 7 or 8, cause unlike most of the guys on this list, he actually provides something of use to a team, in very good shot blocking, and hell, he is probably 7 inches taller than the average Center entering the league anyway, so theres that for people who think size matters..(in fbb Dumbasses) 3.6 blocks per 36 is nice, and he offers 10 rebounds per 36...also of note, the guy already has two titles, pretty sick. He is more successful that every other player in the draft in that regard. Great pick by me. Sucks I drafted a guy later who made me think he was expendable.
14. 76ers -
Gary Bergen C 6'8'' 210 24 B D D- B- C+ B
Gary Bergen PF 27 6'8'' 210 B D F+ B+ B- D
Dude actually has solid ratings, but, obviously he is very meh, he doesn’t score at all, he is a meh shot blocker, and that F+ handles is worrisome…oh and the D outside. He Really isn’t a rebounder either. meh
15. Grizzlies -
Chester Webb SG 6'3'' 200 22 C+ B C- C+ D A
Chester Webb PG 25 6'3'' 200 C+ B+ C- B D+ C
Webb got moved to PG by DJ…why? Who knows, maybe he felt like ruining the blossoming young career of another player….then again that happens the moment they arrive in Toronto, see Albert Smith, Ben Rollins, Kevin Durant. I can see why Wiggins ditched Toronto at the first chance he got. Its alright though guys, DJ won the 2003 title.
16. Cavaliers -
John Barber PF 6'6'' 220 21 C+ C C- B- A B
John Barber PF 24 6'6'' 220 C+ C C- B A C
Barber is a very nice backup big, he provides excellent rebounding, and shoots FT’s fine. He isn’t going to give you great steals blocks, or really D, but, he could be a nice backup SF/PF next to a shot blocking backup C for a contending team.
17. Jazz -
O'Neal Weaver PF 6'8'' 210 22 C+ B B- B- C+ C
O'Neal Weaver PF 25 6'8'' 210 C+ B B B C+ C
And another Jah pick, Weaver looks to have had minimal potential. He can block a little, steal a little, and he has a very nice outside game, (42.3% career on threes 83.3 on FT’s) But really, he isn’t much more than a meh all around backup….which I dunno why you would want, I would much prefer a guy who is excellent at something.
18. Raptors -
Dan Swartz SF 6'5'' 215 21 B- C- C- B B- B
Dan Swartz SF 24 6'5'' 215 C+ C- C- B+ B- C
He has played 16 minutes over two games in his career, but he blocked a shot in those 16 minutes so who knows, maybe he is secretly a very good shot blocker but nobody is willing to give him a shot…or maybe he just sucks.
19. Bucks -
Ron Shavlik PF 6'8'' 200 22 C+ D+ D C+ B+ B
OUT OF THE LEAGUE
Shavlik can go fucking kill himself…if he didn’t already. Serioulsy, he went to B D after one TC, with B+ rebounding, and when I scouted him he had 82 strength and 80 shot blocking, looks like in the least a nice backup big….NO, he fucking tanked, and was a turnover whore….just fucking wonderful. I cut him and he retires after stealing like 9 million from me.
20. Suns -
Phil Rollins PG 6'2'' 185 22 C A- C C+ D B
Phil Rollins SG 25 6'2'' 185 C A C C+ D D
Rollins has ratings as good as Rickey Francis, except the rebounding…obvious stud. Hell, his percentages this year scream that too, 57.4% from the field, 91.7% from the line, 58.3% from three. Scary. Of course, he got moved away from the PG spot, so he cant start there…who knows, maybe he coulda been Rickey lite.
21. Nuggets -
Wally Choice PF 6'7'' 225 22 B- C- C- B- C+ B
Wally Choice PF 25 6'7'' 228 C+ C- C B C+ C
Awful Player hasn’t played in three seasons.
22. Warriors -
Norm Stewart PF 6'6'' 220 21 C+ C C B- C+ B
Norm Stewart PF 24 6'6'' 220 C+ C C B B C
Doesn’t block shots, so he sucks too. But hey, looks better than the guy picked at #8
23. Cavaliers -
Matthew Rice PF 6'7'' 205 22 C+ B+ C B- C C
Matthew Rice SF 6'7'' 205 25 C+ A- C B- C D
Honestly one of the better looking players ratings wise, and he is in FA…FG% for his career is enough to make you puke though, 38.4%…ugly. Doesn’t really show much, does block a shot maybe per 36 though, possibly better, but he also isn’t a great handles player.
24. Celtics -
Johnny McCarthy SG 6'1'' 185 22 C+ B C+ C+ D B
OUT OF THE LEAGUE
Yeah, gone.
25. Jazz -
Saul Mariaschin PG 5'11'' 165 32 C B B C D- B
Saul Mariaschin PG 35 5'11'' 165 C A- B+ C+ D C
Another player wasted on the Jazz roster…Saul actually coulda helped a title contender, but, he will spend the last year or two of his career wasting away while Jah attempts to get himself another 48 wins and an early exit.
26. Wizards -
Dave Piontek PF 6'7'' 240 22 B+ C- D+ C C+ C
Dave Piontek PF 6'7'' 240 25 B C- C- C C+ C
Not worth mentioning, never played in a game, and cut to FA.
27. Blazers -
Elmer Gainer PF 6'6'' 210 36 C+ D+ F+ A+ C+ C
OUT OF THE LEAGUE
Retired, he was old
28. Wizards -
Ed Ketner PF 6'8'' 244 22 C+ C- C- B C+ C
Ed Ketner PF 25 6'8'' 244 C+ C- C- B- B- C
Blows
29. Wizards -
Gene Vance SF 6'3'' 200 33 B- C- C- A- C B
OUT OF THE LEAGUE
