1. Memphis Grizzlies
Harrison Barnes
SG 22 6'8'' 215 B+ B C- A- C+ A
Barnes didn't have a whole lot going on this TC, and he even went -1 in handles. That said, his defense went up, he looks like the clear rookie of the year, and he was a no-brainer pick. Grade: A
2. Memphis Grizzlies
Terrence Jones
PF 22 6'9'' 210 B- C+ C B C+ A
Jones is another guy who didn't have a whole lot of movement in TC, but we're not about to fault Insane for not knowing Ray McCallum was the best player in this draft, are we? Jones has stacked ratings and kept his potential, and considering the only other challenge for this spot had a pretty bad TC, this was a great selection. Grade: A
3. Golden State Warriors
Marquis Teague
PG 21 6'2'' 180 C+ B B B+ C- B
Game's thinking is hard to question here, as you really don't pass on the most talented player at number three. The value is what matters; rounding out a lineup will happen through trades. And Teague did have some really awesome ratings coming in. But you can't help but criticize the pick: Teague's notes made no mention of potential but did mention a turnover problem, and the Christmas was a viable number three candidate who made a lot more sense for the Warriors. Ultimately, the Warriors get a B because even though right now it's obvious Teague wasn't a good pick, there were few people at the time who didn't think he was a top three talent.
4. New Orleans Hornets
Rakeem Chirstmas
C 22 6'9'' 230 B- C- C- B+ C+ A
I love this guy, and I love that he's super strong. Christmas obviously needs a lot of work, but the +2 jump in defense is sick, as is the increased handling. I don't think he's a long way from being B/A/B+, even without RCs. This was an easy and pretty good selection. The Hornets get a B+ because there was a lot of consensus around this pick and 2 of the next 3 players who went look like they might be better players.
5. Oklahoma City Thunder
Ray McCallum
PG 21 6'1'' 185 B- B B B D+ A
We don't know how he sims yet, but considering he has low turnovers, he has a chance to be the best player from this class. McCallum's coming off a +7 TC in which he kept his A potential, and his ratings are really stacked. Looks like there's little in the way of him becoming a franchise point guard. Because this pick wasn't exactly the obvious pick (there was another great PG and a great wing in the mix), Thunder GM Aaron Haberman gets an A. Can you imagine how awful my team would have been if I took Richmond? I honestly should've just gotten CYd on the spot. Don't get mad at me for giving myself credit, because I've clearly done an disastrous job with this rebuild.
6. Orlando Magic
Jereme Richmond
SF 22 6'7'' 220 B C D+ B+ C+ B
I didn't want to betray how I really felt about Richmond in my draft article, but I hated this guy. He came in with D+ handles, no outside game, and notes that said he's raw and athletic. To me that meant he has no basketball skills. I did think he had potential, so this one's a real bummer for Manas. It was Harrow or Richmond here, and Manas needed the wing more; still, I have to give the pick a C.
7. Philadelphia 76ers
Ryan Harrow
PG 22 5'11'' 165 C+ B B B C- A
This pick was an absolute no-brainer. The top 7 were clearly way ahead of the next tier, and Harrow was the last of them. He had a nice +3 TC and looks to be a franchise PG. I'm still leery; his weight is really low and he has a turnover problem. But he looks like he'll pan out, and the 76ers get a B+ for making a very good but obvious pick.
8. Houston Rockets
Damontre Harris
C 22 6'10'' 215 C+ C- C- B B- A
This is one in a series of great moves Jordan's made since taking over the Rockets. Harris had a huge TC, going from a raw, borderline talentless project to looking like a great shotblocker, defender and rebounder to anchor a frontcourt. This guy had some real question marks outside of his nice upside. They're all out the window now. Jordan gets an easy A for this pick.
9. Toronto Raptors
Jordan McRae
SG 22 6'5'' 185 C+ B+ C- A- C
McRae had some really exciting notes. He didn't have the potential many suspected he might. Still, I think this was a good pick. He's a very good defender and his outside game went up. With a few RCs, he's looking at B-/A-/A- or better. For the ninth pick, that's great value, and if TCs are kind to him, it gets even better. The Raptors get a B+ for this pick.
10. Indiana Pacers
Terrence Ross
SG 22 6'5'' 195 C+ A- C C C- A
Ross pretty much is what his notes said he'd be, and with A potential, he looks like a future option scorer. Mops will need to put ACs and RCs in him to get an elite player, and I really doubt Mops will handle that properly. Still, Ross has a huge midrange game, which means he'll get buckets. The Pacers get a B+ for this one; Mops took the right SG (Vander Blue looks as bad as you knew he'd look!), and Tony Mitchell was probably the only other guy in the conversation.
Other good picks: Travis McKie was a great, great selection at 20. There was no reason to suspect potential, but he wasn't far from where he is now, and that's a really, really awesome player. Great draft by Insane. Tony Mitchell better get a lot of RC and AC attention, because Jeff could be sitting on the next DeRozan.
Grade: A
