1. Who is the best team in the league?
Andy: I’d say it’s the Spurs. Wiz have the most talent but the Spurs talent seems to mesh better and they have much better depth. Lakers can also be considered but again, no depth. While I feel Outlaw is overpaid, he’s in the position he fits best at. 6th man. Also, Rudy was a very good pick for the Spurs and allowed them to move JJ and gave them more options. They have the best chance for improvement out of any of these teams IMO and that’s key. Also gotta like the Spurs D. Starting 2 A defenders at the wing positions is big and having a big that can give over 2 steals and 3 blocks per game is something I don’t believe any other team has.
Play: Wizards are the best team in the league by far. They have a very good front court and arguably the best backcourt in the league. Wiz will win it all this season. I’m not a big Lakers fan; Matt will end up choking come playoff time. I feel the Spurs have the talent to win it all but ill take the Wizards starting 5 over theirs.
Nanz: This to me is pretty tough. The Thunders till look nasty even after losing Bosh because Gwall is such an amazing player. The Lakers have the same core they had last year and nobody really came close to beating them in the west; even though they are a year older, they are a top team to be dealt with. However, as of today, I’m gonna go with the Spurs. They added rip and Martynas is playing extremely well replacing Gasol. They have Wagner who seems to have figured out not to turn the ball over and Prince is a top defender. The champion this year comes from the West.
Insane: Well, the favorites should be the Spurs, as they have a very good starting lineup coupled with a great bench with rookie sensation Rudy Fernandez and Travis Outlaw as their sixth and seventh men. They minimize their turnovers, play great defense, and have a great crunch time option in Richard Hamilton.
I considered the Lakers, as they have the best starting lineup around, but their bench is too low quality. The best team may be the Spurs, but the Wizards will be the champions, in my opinion. They may not have the best regular season, but when it comes down to the nitty gritty in the playoffs, I don't think anyone is matching their three A- A- scorers.
2. Which team has the best potential?
Andy: Pistons. Yes, I’m a homer, deal with it. Not going to go on and on about it though. If I had to pick another team though, it would be between the Nets and Nuggets. The Noah/CP3 combo is very nice though I don’t see a ton more. Sergio could be something though his current stats don’t indicate that much. They also drafted Carney who busted. It appears that they will be landing yet another lotto pick so this could change next yr. As far as the Nuggets, I really like the potential of a Johnson/Young/Roy core. I hate Roy at PG though. Biggest issue with the Nuggets is that they don’t have there own draft selections. A team that could be up there soon as well is the Bucks but I question Yi and Gay has been a bit sub par thus far.
Play: My Chicago Bulls have the best potential of any young team in the league. The past 2 drafts have been horrible for me but my team has survived them. My young core is better than any other team in the league.
Andrew Bogut 22 years old 17.7ppg 10rpg 2.2bpg
Andreson Varejao 24 years old 6.8ppg 10.2rpg 1spg 2bpg
Monta Ellis 21 years old 19.8ppg 4rpg 4apg 2.6spg
Donta Smith 23 years old 13ppg in 20mpg
Jameer Nelson 16.9ppg 9.6apg
I also have Luol Deng(22 years old), Xue Yuyang(24 years old), and Wilson Chandler(20 years old) holding down the small forward position for me.
If I had to choose a team besides mine, I would go with Philly. Maniac has a nasty core of Bosh, Millsap, Rondo, and Horford. If Maniac can find a few solid wing players, Philly will win a title within the next 5 seasons.
Nanz: Bucks hands down. Durant Gay and Yi is a very good core… not to mention they somehow are off to a 3-10 start? I’m sure spence is gonna make them play an actual PG sometime but still. They also have my pick this year which could be lotto, lol nah. The bucks by far have the best potential with those 3 and its gonna be interesting to see how that team is gonna look like in a couple of years.
Insane: There's a couple teams that can compete for this honor. 76ers and Nuggets immediately jump out at me as teams with really high end young talent that are not done developing by a long shot. That frontcourt Philly has is pretty nasty, but they're rather undersized to both be on the court at the same time. Rondo's already a great floor general and defender, but he desperately needs to add a 3 ball to his arsenal.
Nuggets have a more eclectic mix with Amir Johnson, Thaddeus Young and Brandon Roy. I think when this rookie class are all in their primes, Young will be giving Durant a run for his money as the best player drafted in 2007. What needs to be said about Roy? Boy is gonna be nasty for many years to come, He can wax you inside or outside, handle and pass the ball like a point guard, and defends like a madman.
The Nets should also be in this, as they have the best young player in the game, and one of the better young posts. Sergio Rodriguez is nice, too. I don't care that they only have three young players, or that Stuckey is a bust, but they're in this discussion because of Chris Paul and Joakim Noah. That's gonna be a sick center-point guard tandem for a long time.
3. What are your opinions on the drafts?
Andy:I don’t think they are bad. The notes that Spencer writes shouldn’t be taken a face value though and I think that’s what GM’s tend to do. I won’t go into details but I usually take the notes and see it a bit differently then it might have been intended to be taken. Usually works. Also, obviously, some luck is involved. Even a guy with 100 potential might not work out. That can’t be blamed on Spencer.
Nanz: I know a lot of people have complained about this but I don’t think its bad at all. There are busts and there are studs. People complain about the lack of studs in the top 5 or so but it happens. I think the thing that bothers people the most is the most can be misleading but spence can’t control how players develop so its not a big deal. I can give you a different answer though after Thad develops lol
Play: Not a fan of the drafts at all. They are horrible most of the time in my opinion. There has never been a #1 overall bust. Usually if you land in the top 5 you are almost guaranteed a good player, picks 6-10 are usually role players or busts. I also don’t like how Spencer makes it obvious who will be in the top 5 most of the time. The notes are horrible as well, I'm not a fan of Spencer lying in the notes about draftees. Since we have a contract year I would like more consistency with drafts. The past 2 drafts have been horrible for rebuilding teams like me. Most of the good players in the past 2 drafts have been drafted during the late lotto or mid first round. The 03, 04 and 05 drafts were loaded with talent and franchise players. It’s possible he made the past 2 drafts suck because I was rebuilding.
Insane: Uhm, the notes really keep me guessing, that's for sure. I've noticed that a lot of players drafted in the mid first round are significantly better than some players taken in the top 10, which is a good thing, in my opinion (compare Rudy Fernandez to Rodney Stuckey, and that's just from this draft). Makes those 1st rounders of playoff teams that much more valuable.
One thing I definitely hated was how Spencer made four players with exact same ratings for this past draft. I also don't know if Spencer does this intentionally, but sometimes the things he writes in his draft notes don't come true, not by a long shot. Overall, the draft has been pretty good to me, so I don't have too many complaints, but I can see how other GM's might have a problem with the drafts.
4. What are your opinions on our new GM's (Rockets and Nets)?
Andy: I mean, I hate to criticize since I haven’t done the greatest job but I’m pretty surprised Andrew has gotten another chance. Not to mention, we have a team with 2 GM’s. If anything, I would have Andrew assistant GM under someone before giving him another shot. I understand the desire to have active guys here but I don’t think we should totally sacrifice GM skill for it. I’m fine with the guys selected for the Nets jobs though.
Nanz: I love adding jeff and steve. Jeff is always on the boards even on the shitty leagues like GABL and BBSBL lol. Steve is also very active and having them both in the league can only be a good thing for the league. I actually would like them to get a team on their own once they get the hang of trades and value especially since steve completely failed last time lol. Rockets gm… Andrew? Lol very nice kid but come on this is a mistake. I hope he can be active and do a good job but I doubt it. I hope he proves me wrong but we’ll see.
Play:
I like the Steve/Erbes combo. Steve has been around for a long time. So I’m glad he has a team. Not a big fan of the Andrew at all. I’ll leave it at that.
Insane: I don't know much about Steve, but Erbes is quite the personality so it'll be fun to have him in the league. The Nets should be fine, as they have two GM's and two top young players. Wait a second, gonna go back and add the Nets as an answer to one of the questions above.
Anyways, Andrew is a cool hiring. When he's focused, he can be pretty good and post a lot.
5. What are your thoughts on CC's "tanking" and tanking overall in the league?
Andy: It’s tough. Everyone tanks. That can’t be disputed. Not everyone does it on the up and up though. Unless someone wants to step up and watch the DC’s, I doubt anything will be done about it. I still hope to, one day, have a roster of 12 PG’s. It’ll be awesome. I think that when people complain about the tanking it isn’t because a team is trying to lose. It’s because a team is trying to lose unfairly. I think that’s a fairly reasonable argument. It sucks when guys use tactics that obviously sucks for there team. I’m mostly talking about focus here.
Nanz: Eh who cares. He is active, responds to pms and other than his bullshit spam ( which used to be a lot worse) he is a good gm to have in the league. He tanks a lot but now he has amare and kobe so who knows maybe he’ll stop it…I hope not though cause I have his 09 and 10 or something like that . Also, his girlfriend seems to be a good influence so yee LOL.
Play: Spencer let CC do whatever he wants because he has over 10k posts. I don’t think teams should be allowed to sign the worst player in the FA pool. Every team should play their best players and use the tactics that fit their team. I’ve seen a few teams with nothing but outside scorers running an inside offense. There has also been a few tanking teams that will have a great sim and completely change their DC. , that shouldn’t be allowed.
Insane: Tanking got pretty gay a couple seasons ago, and I think I could pinpoint it back to the Lebron draft. I don't really check for DC's of other teams but according to some people there's a ton of unfair tanking going on in a given year. It's pretty hard to regulate because it's hard to check up on everyone all the time to make sure their tactics, options, and depth chart are on point. As for CC, I don't know if he tanks, but he's had Amare for awhile now, so he couldn't really tank effectively if he wanted to.
6. Which GM should be fired next?
Andy: No clue. I can’t pick anyone out right now. I think our group overall is solid. I wish guys would stop being bitches during the off season but that’s another topic. We’re fine as is.
Nanz: Andrew? Lol is that too soon? Tiger has made an effort lately and everyone else has been good. Jiggy is off to a bad start in his CY so we’ll see. I’ll stick with Andrew for now lol.
Play: I love the GM core right now. It’s one of the best groups of GM’s I have been around.
Insane: Whoever doesn't make their CY
7. What are your thoughts on Spencer helping out GM's while they are away/busy?
Andy: I think it depends on why and how long. A season isn’t bad if a GM is legit busy. If someone is going to be away for longer then that though then we might as well replace them. It would suck but what’s the point of being here when you can’t actually GM your own team. Obviously personal life comes first and it’s nice to have a way to keep some guys around but I don’t think guys should take advantage of it either. If you fucked your team up, own up to it.
Nanz: I like it. If people don’t wanna quit and are very busy or away its more than fine for spence to help them out. We don’t wanna lose guys like Maniac and Mark so who cares if spence has to help them out for a period of time. It sucks when they come back (marty) everyone gives spence the credit lol so who cares. Also, most of the time it’s the GM making the calls after spence txts them ( like Aaron a few seasons ago)
Play: It depends on the situation but I'm against it. Spencer knows who to trade for and who not to trade for. He knows what player to draft and so on. If a GM is going to be away for a while or too busy for the league they should step down for a bit and come back when they have the time.
Insane: I don't have a problem with it as long as he's willing to do it for everyone that's busy that asks him to help run their team. Also, the degree to which he helps should be an issue. I'm against Spencer making trades on the behalf of GM's, unless the GM is in on the process somehow.
It's tough because Spencer is kind of an omniscient presence in BBS, he knows exactly what's going on at any given point. For example, in free agency, he'll naturally help the GM outbid the other team. It can't be helped, but it sucks.
8. What are your thoughts on SF/SG's moving to PG and what should be done about it, if anything?
Andy: I think it’s gay. Like, gayer then 3 men spooning each other after a little ATM action and that’s fucking gay. Personally, if I was Spencer, it would bug me. What’s the point of making a cool looking SF/SG that can pass at that position if his ass will be a PG soon after he was drafted. I think the -25 to handles is perfect. Let’s do it.
Nanz: I think that if it’s a SG its ok because its not out of the ordinary that a 2 guard is able to play the point. Other than that I think spence should probably lower the handles if players are gonna play the point and aren’t a SG. I don’t think it should be as drastic as he proposed before (-25 I think?) but nonetheless it should be something pretty significant.
Play: I hate it more than any other thing in the league. FBB has a flaw which allows SF/SG’s to excel at the point guard position. If any GM wants to play their SF/SG at PG, 25 points should be deducted from their handling. The value of point guards are also affected by SF/SG’s playing point guard. Majority of the top wing players in the league have a pretty good handling rating which sucks.
Insane: This is the gayest thing I've ever seen. I fucking hate when people put natural wings down as their starting point guard, it's taking advantage of a horrible flaw in FBB. Even in real life, you'll have the wings that dominate the ball and create the offense like LeBron, Roy, Wade, etc, but they all are paired with an actual point guard like Mo Williams, Dre Miller and Mario Chalmers.
The fix has already been mentioned, take 25 handling points off any non point guards that are starting at point guard. I don't really care if you have a wing playing spot minutes at backup point guard as that happens in real life, but there are NO wings in real life that get the majority of their minutes at point guard just because they can create offense.
