HERE WE GO! SIT DOWN WITH THE CHAMPS
1. Back on the kings throne... Another ring for ol' repole. Was this the most satisfying ring out of the 6? Especially doing it without Bingo or any real star on the squad?
-I'd probably put this one as my favorite. I felt like it answered any questions people had about how I built teams. There wasn't anything resembling a gimmick, no big star that I was riding, just a soundly built team that fit well together and was able to take down some star studded squads. That said, the first one with Bingo was pretty sweet because I felt like it got a big monkey off my back (not winning after having the GOAT for that long would be a pretty big black mark on my record). The championship with Omar Green is up there as well, especially because I had all but thrown in the towel on that roster (only won 48 games that year). The second and third with Bingo and the Johnny Green one didn't mean a whole lot to me.
2. How does your team match up against the Bingo team? Would they put up a fight? What are some of the key match ups you would look at and just give us an overall view at how a 7 game series would go.
-I think it'd go to 7 games between us and the best Bingo squad, but seeing as that squad won 72 and would have HCA, I'd probably take them. Matchup wise we'd do pretty well though, mainly because that team's greatest weakness was outside shooters and we have a few decent ones on this roster in Short, Copeland, and Duerod. Eaton and Tyler would have matched up really well with Bingo/Willie Davis. Last season Tyler really shut down Bingo in my matchup with the Wizards which was nice to see. My biggest defensive hole is at SG and Trapp isn't really going to put up huge volume so that wouldn't have hurt too much. Robey would go to town on Lamar Green, and the PG spot is pretty much a wash with Younger NVL vs Duerod + Old NVL. In many ways this team is really built to beat a team like those Bingo led Magic rosters.
3. Broph is gone. Why do you think he left? Do you think he actually got bored or do you think there were other reasons? Why not just reboot his team? Why not steal Kermit from me get KAJ and win a title? What? LOLz what happened there? Anyway, do you think people finally got to him with the trolling?
-Eh yeah, I don't think it was pure boredom. I'm sure that was part of it, but don't think that was the whole thing. When we did the Top 50 back and forth article thing I mentioned that I was thinking about quitting, and he was all like "OH NO HOW CAN YOU CONSIDER THAT." Seeing as that was only a few weeks back, not sure how his perspective could have changed THAT much without some other factor coming into play. I do think he got tired of the trolling to some extent, and wouldn't be surprised if there was some personal life stuff driving it either.
4. BK going hard right HERE. It was a league wide thought that the best GMs were yourself and Play; 1a 1b. I was always on Play's camp but kinda hard to go against your current run. Do you think play is now the second best GM? 1. Repole 2. Play 3. Other GMS.... or do you think Play has fallen to be just another good GM....1. Repole 2. A lot of good Gms?
-Yeah don't think it's an argument now tbh. I've got 6 championships in 29 seasons, he's got 7 in 61. I don't think he's clearly better than Broph/Aar, but he's still certainly top 4 for me (or I suppose top 3 with Broph gone now). He can complain about the gimmicks, the "nerds," me riding Bingo to championships (while he wasted KAJ and Dickey) or whatever else, and while he's doing that, I'll just keep winning.
5. What is next for the Magic? Looking to add a star this off-season or continue to win it with this core? The Thunder got their 42 wins... seems like a perfect time to rebuild... See anything you would deal their picks back for?
-Welp, with Copeland gone, I need to bring in another guy who can score off the bench for me and backup SF/SG/PG. I'd like to make that a short term solution and hold onto those Thunder/Hornet picks for now, but we'll see. I really can't afford another long term MAX guy unless Duerod or Eaton or someone re-ups for cheap unfortunately. Even had Copeland re-signed, there's a good chance I would have dealt him off for picks and acquired a two year stop gap type instead. Wish Barry hadn't retired so I could have used him for that, but oh well.
6. Short and Robey are FA after the season. Robey is a good big who rebounds like a boss and has nice %s. Short is a sick efficient scorer with A potential left... If one of them decides to leave in FA who would you rather it be?
-I'd say Robey's the better player, but my team's biggest issue is scoring and Purvis is my most valuable player in that regard. I think I could plug a dude like Kenny Carr in for Robey and not lose too too much, whereas with Short I'd have to find another top tier efficiency type wing. Of my core players from last season, Robey and Copeland are probably the two I could best recover from losing.
7. The league seems to be showing signs of GMs claiming to be getting bored with FBB. How much longer do you think this league will last and whats next after FBB?
-Meh I don't know. Losing Broph hurts activity, Marty hasn't done much since being back, Skillz is MIA for the most part, Play seems less interested, Habes is waiting for a ray of hope with his team, even I've been thinking about getting out not too long from now. A lot of core guys who just aren't as into things is usually a bad sign. But BBS has seen some lows before and come back strong, hopefully that's the case here.
As for what's after FBB, hopefully Gerald Green Basketball Simulation! I'm not sure how FBB2 will be, so far it sounds promising, DDS3 looks ok, but meh, nothing really wows me. Once you've done the OOTP baseball thing everything else seems meh.
8. We are getting some new old GMs back lol Greg and Donny Ballgame. People always seem to complain about getting some new blood in BBS... do you like these hires? Should we give some new guys a shot over reliable GMs?
-Right now I think is a good time for some reliable dudes, with activity a bit stalled, it's nice to have some steady guys around who we know how much to expect from. When there's enough interest in the league I like having some new blood from time to time too, but at the moment it's probably a bit too risky.
9. Spence has made a couple of trades for the Bobcats.... Bringing Barnes to CHA and sending Eddie to MIL. Do you like the trades he is making for John? Should he just fire John and get a new GM right now? If so who should it be?
-The EJ trade was awful, even if the master plan was to get that Laker pick, he should have been able to get another 1st out of Aar. The Barnes trade was solid, I'm not the biggest Barnes fan, but he's a good player. If there were someone ready and waiting that seemed decent I'd give them the Bobcats, but since this Josh guy is apparently Tom Lyttle or whatever who flamed out last time, meh, I'm ok with Spencer running things for a bit. Just don't like seeing him hand teams players for shit.
10. Aar has been dealing wheeling getting and dealing youth on the reg LOL He won't be able to tank with English on the rsoter so i think he is ready to start cashing in some chips... what do you think his next move should be? The way his current team is set up how long before he can put together a championship team?
-He can probably do so whenever he so chooses, just depends on what types of guys he's willing to settle for. I remember when I had 20+ 1sts and a lot of the time it was hard to move them for anything other than stop gap players. But Aar has a good amount of young talent to move around too, so he should be able to acquire some high end players when the market is right. It will still probably take a few seasons to build a championship caliber roster though.
11. As a close and personal friend of Jay... do you think he'll be able to build a team around MJ? or will he waste away in Atlanta?
-He'll do a nice job of building around MJ. He knows FBB well enough that he won't do anything stupid. Moncrief is a nice start, he won't really need much more scoring than those two. I don't want to say too much about how I'd build around him because frankly I don't want to help Jay build a dynasty due to him being in the East and all.
12. While on the Jay train here lol You seem to have some hilarious stories about Jay.... Please give us one that come close to him crashing on your couch for months LOL
-lol, ummmmmm, I don't know that I have any more really good ones? I already mentioned saving his life I think? Next best thing I can think of is the awkwardness caused by the way a few of my roommates would throw the n word around. Meh, sorry to let you down, don't know that I have any other great J stories. If I think of something I'll post it. Or J can if he wants.
