1st Team Center
Clifford Ray, Cleveland Cavaliers
Give the nod to Ray here though Caldwell Jones may be having the better year so far numbers wise. Ray is one of the best rebounders in the league and averaging 12.3 rpg in 34.5 mpg compared to 11.5 in 36.3 mpg for Jones. And Ray is on the better rebounding team. May not block a ton of shots but around 3 is still respectable and his defense is A+ so his post defense and strength has to be great as well. Cavaliers stole Ray from the Nuggets in the off-season and he has been huge for them.
2nd Team Center
Caldwell Jones, Milwaukee Bucks
Like the Cavs the Bucks also brought in a new center in the off-season and I'm not sure they expected him to perform like this. He has been great so far through 47 games playing like an elite center. Averaging 16.3 ppg, 11.5 rpg and 3.9 bpg. Low turnovers and good %s too. The rebounding and defense have been there his whole career but the offense has definitely been a pleasant surprise for the Bucks this season.
Honorable Mentions: Randy Denton, Bill Walton
1st Team Power Forward
Bingo Smith, Milwaukee Bucks
Easy choice here as Bingo has been the best player in the league for a while now. After a disappointing season last year Bingo and the Bucks are playing great and have a nice 5 game cushion in the East. Bingo had a bad TC but his numbers still look exactly the same.. 34 ppg, 10 rpg, 3 apg, 2 spg, 4 bpg. Just jaw-dropping numbers, but the regular season doesn't matter its championship or bust for the Bucks. And though they might not look quite as good on paper as last year this team seems to gel together perfectly.
2nd Team Power Forward
Derrek Dickey, Chicago Bulls
Would probably be 1st team PF in any other division but falls behind Bingo here. Dickey still hasn't quite developed into a monster yet and it doesn't look like he will ever be a great scorer. But he will get you 12 rpg and 4 bpg with over 1 spg and hardly turns the ball over. FG% could be a little better but he is a great FT shooter.
Honorable Mentions: Dan Roundfield, Dan Issel
1st Team Small Forward
Willie Davis, Milwaukee Bucks
Some may be surprised at this and it was a tough choice as there are a lot of great SFs in the Central division. But given Davis' all around game he gets the nod over some guys who score a little more but Davis' rebounding, shotblocking and efficiency give him the edge. He probably has the least value out of the good SFs in the division but he is also probably the most talented. Willie is currently averaging 20 ppg and 10 rpg with over 1 spg and right at 2 bpg. Low turnovers and shooting 54% from the field as well. Probably helps a little he is back playing with Bingo too
2nd Team Small Forward
Adrian Dantley, Cleveland Cavaliers
Dantley is only in his 3rd season and has taken a big step forward from last year. Currently averaging 25.6 ppg and 7.7 rpg with over 1 steal and low turnovers. His outside rating is only B but he has managed to be a great FT shooter and efficient 3 point shooter somehow. He is also great inside, if he keeps developing like he should he is on his way to putting up 30 on great percentages.
Honorable Mentions: Alex English, Glen Gondrezick
1st Team Shooting Guard
Fred Brown, Chicago Bulls
Brown is having another great season for the Bulls. Putting up 27.8 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 5.6 apg, 1.5 spg, 0.6 bpg. Having a great all around year so far, even blocking a few more shots. Also has been extremely efficient this year shooting 50% from the field, 94% from the free throw line and 42% from beyond the arc. If you had to pick a weakness it would be his turnovers, which aren't terrible but certainly aren't ideal.
2nd Team Shooting Guard
Austin Carr, Toronto Raptors
Though he plays on a really bad team, Austin Carr is still a stud. Averages 30 a game easily and shoots great percentages. He is having a career year for the Raptors and would probably be first team if he wasn't on a bad team. Only thing you can say bad about him is rebounding, if that was a little better he might be considered the best SG in the league.
Honorable Mentions: Fred Carter, Otis Birdsong
1st Team Point Guard
Eldridge Webb, Cleveland Cavaliers
Would be Mengelt here any other year probably but Jay fucked his numbers up. Webb's rebounding, passing and stealing have always been great but since joining the Cavs he has also been a great scorer. His turnovers are a little worrisome, but they aren't unbearable. He gets the spot over guys like Williams and McCarter because of rebounding. 24 ppg, 6 rpg and 12 apg so far this year as the Cavs are poised to make another run in the playoffs with Webb leading the way.
2nd Team Point Guard
Gus Williams, Chicago Bulls
Again probably should be Mengelt, but Ill give it to Williams. Williams is one of the best young PGs in the league and is having himself another great year. He has been very consistent since coming into the league and his averages this year are basically the same as last year. Currently at 23 ppg, 4 rpg, 11 apg, 2 spg and under 2 tpg. 47% from the field and over 80% from the line. You can't ask for much more out of your PG.
Honorable Mentions: Jon Mengelt, Andre McCarter
