1) Walt Hazzard won MVP this year. If you had a vote, who would've gotten it?
Bingo. I mean, FBB loves PGs/assists, so it's not surprising to see, but clearly Hazzard doesn't impact a game like Bingo does.
2) Where do you rank Hazzard among the league's point guards?
He's top three for sure, I'd rather have Mengelt probably, outside of that though I would take Hazzard without hesitating much depending on need.
3) Is Bingo Smith still the most valuable asset in BBS?
Until the lotto happens, yes. After that, the #1 and #2 picks surpass him in value immediately. Part of the reason I was willing to deal Bingo when I did was I knew the Magic/Bird draft(s) were on the immediate horizon, figured now was as good a time as any to rebuild. If I land a top 2 pick (which I believe I have about a 44% chance of, after factoring in that I have the Memphis pick as well), it'll have been a great decision. If I don't, I still have no regrets, I really, really wanted to do something new.
4) What went wrong with the Bucks this season?
Defense is the pretty clear answer here. Buse isn't a great defensive PG positionally, McMillan can't guard SGs, Mix is probably has trouble with shooting SFs, and Lamar Green is solid but not exactly a defensive anchor type at center. You needed more defensive specialists and less scorers. Having both Buse and Mix is a waste with Bingo on the roster, your third option should be a guy who's efficient but doesn't typically put up volume (like Trapp was for me, though his efficiency has declined, perhaps because of where you're playing him). You're pretty much the BBS version of the Heat, a lot of talent that still might win it all, but the team is less than the sum of its parts.
5) What is your BBS Finals prediction?
Blazers in 7 over the Bucks. I think the Blazers are as talented as the Bucks and mesh a bit better. Going through the Nuggets won't be easy though.
6) Bird or Magic?
Magic is pretty clearly the better player based on notes, and I'd take him #1 without any hesitation, but I'd personally prefer Bird just because I desparately want to run an outside offense again. The rebounding at PG from Magic will be pretty huge, as will the lack of turnovers, the steals/blocks, and the inside scoring. He'll be the best player we've seen in BBS outside of Bingo in my opinion, but I'm hoping Spencer kept Bird's impact relatively close.
7) Bulls vs. Cavs, who ya got?
Since the Bulls are getting healthy finally, and have homecourt, I lean towards picking them. The Cavs are a really, really nice looking team though, there really isn't anything that would surprise me in this series other than a sweep by either team.
8) Same question: Blazers vs. Jazz?
The Blazers were a +10 point differential team in the regular season, the Jazz were only +6, the fact that their records are so close indicates a good deal of luck for the Jazz/bad luck for the Blazers. Add home court advantage for the Blazers, and I take them pretty easily. I'll go Blazers in 6 on this one, I think the talent gap is fairly large here. Broph would really have to mess up his DC or have some awful luck.
9) Who is the best player on the Jazz?
First instinct is to go Roberson, but he's not really GREAT at anything, just a really, really good all around PF. Carter's efficient as hell and plays quality defense, but doesn't put up volume. Snyder's been great at PG but is a bit turnover prone, and Billy Cunningham gives pretty much nothing offensively. I suppose I'll go with my gut and pick Roberson, he's been an absolute rock for that franchise.
10) Were you surprised that the Bobcats took out the Nets?
Absolutely not. With Hayes healthy again they're one of the better teams in the East, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them in the finals even. I feel bad for Nanz, sucks that he lost Kermit in the offseason, he deserved better than a first round exit against a team that was an unfairly low seed due to injuries.
11) What stat sticks out most to you from the Playoff leaders?
Roberson's rebounding. To go from under 10 a game during the season to 15+ in the playoffs, that's pretty crazy. Obviously he'll come back to earth some, but really impressive stuff.
12) Who is the best GM in BBS other than Play and yourself?
Mehhhh, I don't know that I can give a definitive answer here. For me it's definitely between you and Skillz, and prior to this season I'd likely have given it to you simply based on the championships, but I'm admittedly a bit turned off by the lack of dominance with Bingo. For now I'll switch back to Skillz (regardless of if you win a championship now), but if you show up next season and win 65+ you'll jump back ahead in my book again.
13) Is Marty a top-8 GM?
I have Play, Skillz, Aar, Broph, Habes, DBW, DJ, and myself above him in no particular order pretty easily if we're going purely on GM ability, so that makes the answer pretty clearly no for me. He's in the next group though, and has an argument for top 10 if he can start turning some of these nice teams he's built into championships.
14) Which playoff team is most in need of a rebuild?
There's a lot of them to be honest, the Hawks, 76ers, Thunder, Timberwolves could all use a bit of an overhaul. I'll go Hawks, Jay made his contract year which is great, but now it's time to build an actual team again. I think he has enough talent on his roster that he could ship pretty much everyone off for picks and do a proper rebuild finally. It sucks doing that right after making a contract year, because it means 6 years of sucking in 7 years, but if he wants to actually win something anytime soon, it's his best option.
15) Which BBS GM do you think is least interested in the league right now?
My gut reaction was Outlawz, but since the season is over and he has a real shot at Magic/Bird he'll probably get interested again. After that, it's been a typical year for DJ, and John disappeared for a while, but I'd probably go ilovebball, haven't seen much of anything from him.
16) Most surprising playoff team remaining?
The Lakers I guess? Really none of them are very surprising, though I thought the Lakers were mild underdogs in their first round matchup.
17) Who would you take 3rd overall in the draft?
I have absolutely no idea. Jay knows my methods for drafting, and they tend to involve not deciding anything until the draft is actually posted as an html page.
18) Is Terry Tyler the most valuable player to come out of last year's draft?
For now, I'd say yes. Which sucks, because I was desparetly trying to move NVL for a pick in the top 6-8 to take him. Bleh. Eventually though there are some guys that I think will pass him, I doubt he has huge upside left, and a guy like Johnson or King or Sikma could break through and become a big time stud. Feel similar to him vs his draft class as I did Tree Rollins. Best player in the short term is likely, don't think he'll be the best player long term.
19) Which player from the Bucks would be the first one you'd trade?
McAdoo, he's useless on your roster. Nice rebounding rating, but not exceptional production there, and his scoring is redundant and less efficient than the options you already have. After that I'd consider moving Buse for a more defensive PG.
20) Is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar a top-3 valuable player in BBS? If not, who's ahead of him?
Mehh, I don't know, I feel like he's top three by default. He's great obviously, but I don't value his volume at 44%, would much rather have Bingo or Dickey. I personally would prefer Bobby Jones as well. Then there are prospect types like Dantley and English who probably hold similar value.
