1. You seemed to think Fred Carter was just an average guard in our trade talks. Now that you've had him for a couple of sims, what do you think? Would you do the trade again?
Yes I would do it again. He has probably been our best player the first 30 days, yes I said that. He doesn't turn it over, he scores on great percentages, and he is one of the top wing defenders here with close to 2 steals and a block. The only reason I wasn't interested in our deal at the time was the contract and I wanted to see TC results and preseason results.
2. At 8-10, your team obviously did not start as well as you would have hoped. Is another deal in order, or will a few DC tweaks be enough?
I think we are just under performing right now. I hope that with a few DC changes and some more sims we can pick it up, our shooting hasn't been the greatest the past couple games. If we don't start playing better I will really look for a fix, but I am in no rush since my contract year isn't until next season anyway and so many teams are tanking for Magic/Bird I should make 42 wins and playoffs easily.
3. You've been with the Pacers for about 30 seasons and (no disrespect) have yet to do anything of significance. It always seems to be enter CY, win ~45 for 3 years, tank again with you. Surely that isn't all you're aspiring for. What is stopping you from putting together longer and better stretches of winning?
The GM's here are pretty good at always trying to win the deals so it is hard to get deals done for me. That and the fact that I am always thinking of the future as well as now which could kind of hold me back from creating good win NOW teams. I think I have improved though and I like what we have going right now, hopefully they keep improving so I don't have to break them apart for older guys.
4. Speaking of doing something significant, what are you looking to accomplish this season? With Walton, English and Lucas on deck you might have the pieces to bring in some big time names. Any chance you move them and go at the necks of Aar, Play and UK?
Right now I'd like to just reset my CY and make playoffs. Next season if we don't have an impressing TC I may break my team apart and go after the big names and trade my young talent, especially if this season is unsuccessful and we fail to make the reset on my contract.
5. What are your thoughts on the current state of the Central division? Do you see yourself claiming the division as your own within the next few seasons?
I think the Central division has always been tough. Right now I think there are 2-3 teams better than us in this division. If my guys develop correctly I should be able to move into the top two teams once guys like Bingo, Hayes, Issel are out of the division. I think the Bulls could be pretty solid for a while though so it's going to be a tough race for #1 in the division.
6. Lets shift our attention to the rest of the league. As crazy as it sounds, the 19-6 start by the Bucks seems to have people doubting Bingo this year. Who do you think is taking it all this year?
Milwaukee will win it all. I wouldn't doubt Bingo, aar just needs a few more sims to test some things out and Bingo will be back to the Bingo from another planet... I mean his numbers right now are still crazy good. If aar adds another solid big name guy next to Bingo it would be a lock.
7. Now that the rookies have got some games under their belt, who are some of the guys you are most impressed with? Disappointed with?
Terry Tyler is easily the biggest surprise for me. With the numbers he is putting up he should have probably gone top 3. I knew he would be good and he was the guy I was considering at #4 had I not taken Cooper but I was unsure if it'd be too high or not, clearly it wouldn't have been.
Marques Johnson looks pretty damn solid... I don't think he will get much better than what he currently is though, a 20/7 type guy.
Bernard King surprised me a little, I thought he was going to be a turnover whore, good thing for the celtics he has been solid to start the season.
Too early to tell for the disappointments but I think that Maxwell and Sikma have been just meh so far... Sikma will still get better but im not too sure about Maxwell.
8. Jay is Jay and Pig is MIA. Do either of these guys make their CY?
Jay will. Pig won't. It's probably best if Pig doesn't because he doesn't seem to be trying to hard right now and his activity is just meh. Sucks because he is a pretty solid GM too. Jay has a solid team when you look at it but they aren't simming very great, but he'll make it because he is trying.
9. Back to you. When I was new and/or seen as garbage, condescending remarks in PMs were non-stop. GMs could sense that I wasn't good and would basically try to force me into a deal using their "superiority" . No disrespect.... but general consensus around here is that you're garbo. Have you recently had to endure that bullshit? If so, put it on blast.
I think some GM's try and take advantage of my GM skills when they can, but I think they are starting to realize that they can't rape me so easily anymore. Pause. But I do think that when people say I suck they're only saying it because others are saying it, some guys don't know why I suck. Pause. I know guys like Play, Styro, etc are always trolling my trades trying to turn people against me it seems.
10. You've been here long enough to have been attached to a player or two. Tell us about some of your favorite players in your tenure with the Pacers.
The guys I have now I really like, but over the time being here I think my all time favorite pacer was Jerry Lucas... I obviously had him during his prime I believe for 3 seasons, but it was amazing how bad we were without him. I valued him highly and when it was time to rebuild I wanted to get a lot for him, and if I remember correctly I received quite a few picks from Washington for him.
11. Any GMs that you simply don't care for? If so, talk about 'em.
I don't have a problem with anyone here. But if I had to name a few that I think aren't very good I would say jah isn't that great, styro is ok but nothing special, and blue from what I have seen struggles sometimes, even though I like what each of them have done recently with their teams. Pig has been shitty lately too.
12. What match up would you like to see in the NBA Finals?
I have said since the first round I thought it would be Spurs/Heat in the finals. But I think the most exciting matchup would be Thunder/Heat since they are going to be the two teams on top for years to come. I would love to see Bosh return for the finals though so Miami doesn't have an excuse if they lose. I would take the winner of the Spurs/Thunder to win the whole thing though.
