Last year you made a lot of noise about being the best team in the West but at the end of the season you seemed to go backwards and you got knocked out in the first round. What happened?
Noise as far as me being outspoken about my team? My team pretty much played the best up until the last few sims, but i personally never hyped up my team or went out and said i had the best team out West. In interviews all season, people were picking the Nuggets or T'wolves to come out of the west and i never really disagreed in any of those threads nor went out of my way to hype up my own team. As far as what happened, i really have no idea. Well i kind of do, i suck at making dc's. I had won all year with this one dc and for some reason it failed me in playoffs. Happens every year it seems, can't even blame it on fbb no more. My team just flopped. Shooting percentages dropped dramatically late in the season on a game to game basis.
You seem to be in a bit of a salary cap bind. You will have nothing to offer to Money next year unless you dump a big salary. It would seem that the most likely to go would be Hudson or Goo. Do you have a plan or are you in a wait and see mode?
I'm looking to trade in general, but that's not really a pressing issue for me. I have a lot of people with big salaries, but i know i can dump any of them whenever i want to. I might take a hit in value when it's all said and done but i can't afford to lose Money so it's worth it. So to answer your question, i don't have a plan, i'm just looking to trade and hoping something comes a long that benefits me both salary wise and value wise. Westphal is also right there with Lou and Goo as far as players most likely to go.
Who is coming off the bench Westphal, Kenon or Hudson and why?
Hudson will come off the bench. I feel like Kenon is ready to be a starter on my team and Westphal just shoots to good and is perfect for this outside offense, so i feel like i'd be more effective with him at SG anyways. I'm going to back up Lou at the 1/2/3 for the first couple sims and adjust from there. I might even rotate all 3 in and out and change things up from sim to sim just to gauge how well each one plays with one another.
Any plans on moving Westphal? No question that he is a top scorer but that defense/rebound combo is ugly and with Kenon and money improving you don't need his scoring so much
Ehh, Westphal's rebounding shortcomings are a bit overblown. My rebounding in every other spot more than makes up for his lack of rebuilding plus his shooting probably overweighs his deficiencies on the defensive end. A great wing will most likely get his no matter whose guarding him so i feel like defense at SF is overrated. Every other starter has B+ or higher defense. Kenon is A, Lanier is A+ and the dpoy, Money is A- and gets 2 spg. They more than make up for it.
Rank your top 6 guys not in terms of talent but in terms of trade value
1. Eric Money - I think this one is pretty easy. Easily a top 5 player as far as value in the league currently.
2. Bob Lanier - DPOY and capable of putting 20 and 12 on a non-outside offense.
3. Larry Kenon - Up and coming stud imo. I think he'll be a 25 ppg player with 50% fg. I'm tempted to put him above Lanier but Lanier has done it already. Kenon still hasn't had a full season to start.
4. Goo Kennedy - His preseason stats speak for themselves. In the right offense, he can be a flat out beast scoring and rebounding wise. Unfortunately, he doesn't thrive in my offense but he's valuable to me nonetheless.
5. Paul Westphal - Sick scorer but probably considered one dimensional so he falls here.
Nuggets have won the west the last 2 years and reached the finals both years. Any chance of them doing that again this year?
They obviously have a chance but it might be a little tougher. I think the Wolves and Lakers will make it hard but i think they have a solid chance of making it out of the West again. Plus, even when the Nuggets have underwhelming teams, they overachieve in the playoffs. Seems like you're good at matchups in the playoffs and making dc's so there's definitely a chance. It's going to be tough though.
Your players as a whole seem to have low defensive ratings. Do you feel that this hurts your team or do you not attach much importance to defensive ratings?
I don't attach much importance at certain positions. Lanier has A+ defense, Goo has B+ at C, Kenon has A, Money has A- so it's not a main concern. Plus, Lanier seems to compensate for my lack of D in other areas and my rebounding is one of the best in the league. At SG, as long as the Defense isn't lower than a C+, i really don't let that position worry me from a defensive standpoint. My defensive shooting percentages were pretty good last year.
Best fa signing of the offseason ?
Kermit Washington with the Portland Blazers. Anytime you can get a guy that probably received a max offer from anyone with cap, that's pretty big. He got a mid-20's all star caliber big, that hardly happens in any league so that was an easy choice for me.
5 best rookies after seeing tc and preseason?
Michael Cooper SF 21 6'5'' 170 B B- B- B+ C+ A
- Was considered the first overall pick by many and Repole acquired him and camped him right off the bat. I believe he went just +2 in tc, but he looks nice already offensively. His defense is overrated though. I put him here just from a ratings standpoint.
Bernard King SF 20 6'7'' 205 A- C D+ C+ C+ A
-I think he might be the best player in the draft and he went +2 also, but he's younger and hasn't been camped like Cooper has.
Jack Sikma C 22 6'11'' 230 B- B D B B+ A
-He has sick ratings but i've seen bigs like this who are good from the outside bust more than pan out. I'm not sold, but he probably has value around the league.
Norm Nixon PG 22 6'2'' 170 C+ B- A- B+ D A
-Pretty good. A PG selected by marty always seems to pan out.
Otis Birdsong SG 21 6'3'' 190 B+ A- C C+ D+ B
-addressed in next question.
Steal of the draft?
Otis Birdsong SG 21 6'3'' 190 B+ A- C C+ D+ B - Deebz wanted him and for good reason. He was picked later in the lotter and looks like he's gonna be a stud.
Rebounding or shotblocking?
Shotblocking. It's just a more valued commodity and there's probably a reason for it. A guy who can get 3 bpg will always have good value, more than a well balanced big with less than 2 bpg it seems. It's hard to win without 2 bigs that both block 2+ bpg. Rebounds are important too but it seems like as long as the guy isn't shitty there he's not a liability. All other things being the same, elite shotblocking > elite rebounding.
3 most important attributes in a wing?
The ability to shoot from the outside, at least for me since that's the type of offense i prefer.
A good rebounding wing is huge. If you can get an excellent rebounder on the wing, you have a huge advantage.
Turnovers. A wing that is a to whore almost has no value or very little so a wing with minimal turnovers is big also.
stats defender or man to man defender?
I really don't know. I've never really tinkered with fbb to know which one leads to more success, but i'd lean towards a stats defender. Someone who gets 2 spg you know is making a direct impact. A guy with A- defense and no stats on defense, you're not so sure really.
rank 1) playing bball 2) sim bball 3) fantasy bball 4) watching bball on tc 5) video game bball?
1. Watching Bball- I love basketball but i personally am not great at it. I grew up playing soccer and baseball so that's what i'm good at. Always loved basketball though.
2. Video Game Bball- 2k games are fun.
3. Fantasy Bball - When there's money on the line, it's real fun to track your team, plus it goes hand in hand with watching it.
4. Playing BBall- I like playing, but i don't love it. I turn to other sports when it comes to going out and playing.
5. Sim BBall- It's fun and all but there's really nothing on the line here. All the other activities, you personally have something on the line. Whether it'd be your emotions when you're watching basketball. Bragging rights when you're playing against friends. Money when you're playing fantasy. In sim, we don't even know eachother, at least most of us don't. It's just a little hobby on the side for internet braggings rights.
Will the bucks be the best team ever?
No, repole's team last season is tough to top. I wouldn't put it past them though if Repole keeps giving Aar advice on how to run his team with Bingo.
Top 3 teams in each conference –
East - Bucks, Bobcats, Nets
Bucks on paper are probably more talented than the Magic last year.
Bobcats were without a doubt the 2nd best team in the league last year.
Nets are on the up and up with that nice talent and the recent NVL acquisition.
West - Blazers, Lakers, T'wolves
Twolves are going to be contenders again with Kaj and monroe and Mcadoo.
Lakers are probably the most talented team on paper but underachieve in playoffs so who knows.
Blazers and the signing of kermit should catapult them into top 3 imo. That along with the trade of Mcglocklin for Nuggets.
3 players who outplay their ratings?
1. Gus Williams- His ratings aren't indicative of that of an elite PG but his stats in preseason were mindblowing.
2. Bobby Jones - We all know his ratings are there but his grades are solid but not great. We all know he's a great player though.
3. Fred Carter- I think to myself, no way should he be 25+ ppg but every season, he seems to be.
3 players who don't play up to their ratings?
1. Julius Erving - Last year, his scoring was so fucking meh compared to his ratings. His preseason stats have him headed in the right direction though.
2. Tom Boswell - Sick ratings, garbage ass player.
3. Levern Tart - We all know he sucks, but his ratings are nice, seems like he should be a 25 ppg player.
How do the Hawks make their cy?
Trading their overrated youth for legit studs. Trade Boswell for something that can help you win now. Boswell can maybe be good eventually, but he's far from it now so trading him makes the most sense at this point. Someone will drool at those ratings and might give up something pretty good for him.
give yourself 1-10 ratings on the following: 1)draft 2) fa 3)dc 4)trading
Draft - 5
I'm make solid picks like Mchartley, Greenspan, but i've also had mid firsts totally not do anything for me on plenty of occasions. Plus, picking Jerry #1 and Greer #2 isn't exactly good drafting, just common sense. I'm average.
FA - 5
Average - It's rare that i sign someone to a horrible contract and i never steal anyone really, which is the norm. I'm good at resigning my guys and just about it.
DC - 1
If i don't have an outside team, i'm pretty much garbage at figuring out DC's. The proof is in my playoff performances.
Trading - 7
Haven't really made any bad trades recently. Traded Kaj for money, bobby jones, goo and a first. Traded walt frazier for kenon. Traded aziz for Dennis Johnson basically which turned into Westphal. The one bad trade i made to acquire Frazier turned out to be good. I feel like i'm good at trading, just probably not as proactive as i should be.
Broph or DJ?
Broph. DJ is inactive, is delusional about the value of his players and stands pat to often. He's only good at keeping guys and signing role players in FA.
Hayes or Kaj?
KAJ. He has the ratings, the insane production and is 1 or 2 years younger i believe. This one's easy, not even close. I know hayes is capable of putting up great stats but KAJ just does it on the regular. It's hard to find a big whom you can rely on on offense and Kaj is not just reliable, but pretty elite.
Mengelt or Money?
Money. He's going to put up 27+ ppg this year with 10+ apg and his much younger than Mengelt. I'd have to be borderline brain dead to trade Money for Mengelt.
I love BBS bc…………….
The gm's. Other leagues are too often filled with immature trolls who are ignorant and are just ruthless with eachother. Shit gets heated a lot of times here, but it's usually not people taking blind shots. The league has all kinds of personalities that make it fun. Discussions all around are pretty good here. Not much spamming and ever since svedda left, no retards with bad intentions everytime they get on the forum. Spence does a great job using his little spare time to sim for us also. Surprised he's able to sim like he does. Simmers in other leagues can't even do that good a job with half the responsibilities.
Noise as far as me being outspoken about my team? My team pretty much played the best up until the last few sims, but i personally never hyped up my team or went out and said i had the best team out West.
