The Dime! Featuring Repole
1. You just won 3 titles in a row and decided to gut your team. Let's ask the question we all want to hear: What the fuck are you doing?
-I'm here to have fun first and foremost. This is a way for me to pass time, and to be frank, winning with that core was getting boring. I hadn't made a relevant move in three seasons, at this point I just want to do something different. I want to go back to having outside shooters, I want to have possibilities with my roster instead of it being set in stone. If winning was all I cared about, I don't trade Bingo, ever.
2. What is your vision of the team going forward? Do you plan on tanking for this year and next? Are you just looking to develop your young guns and collect assets? Where do you see this team in 3 seasons?
-Definitely intend on tanking for the next two seasons, which is a big part of the reason I dealt Walton so quickly. I miss having a high draft pick and actually caring about the draft. Beyond that, I'm just collecting assets where ever I can, so that I can eventually cash them in and contend again in a few seasons. By 2050 I should be winning 50+ games relatively easily, if not something's gone wrong.
3. Talk about the players you received. Why do you like them so much'?
-Cooper seems like the ultimate blank slate. He can do a bit of everything, and at the same time doesn't really excel at anything. In terms of me wanting to sort of start over with my team, I can't really think of a better guy to be that first core piece. I also feel like with the right AC/RC attention, I can mold him into whatever type of player I want to.
-DJ is a pretty cool looking PG to me. I considered trying to swap NVL last season for a shot at him, but figured I shouldn't mess with success at that point. The shot blocking at PG is always fun, he gets steals, shoots an awesome percentage. The handling looks solid, though it could probably use a bit more help in TC. To be honest though, I intend on moving him eventually, perhaps after showcasing him a bit. I want to go outside with this roster as mentioned above, so he doesn't really fit in that regard.
-Glenn looks like Ricky Francis without the steals or rebounding. Pour some ACs and RCs into him and I think he could become a big time scorer. Hard to pass up a guy like that.
-Ford probably won't get much love around the league, but in limited playing time he's shown some ability to get blocks, steals, rebounds, and shoot at a high percentage. Hoping I can showcase him quickly and deal him off for pick(s), because I'm concerned he's too useful of a player to have on a tanking team.
4. If you were to give Aar one piece of advise to handle Bingo/Willie, what would it be?
-Don't mess with success. Bingo belongs at PF, and Willie at SF, in an inside offense. I wanted to go outside with Bingo pretty badly, but never had the pieces to do so. Experimenting with it early on might not be a bad idea with Buse as your second option, but that's going to waste Willie's awesome production to some extent. Stick to the formula of Bingo/Willie/Buse with efficient scorers, defenders, and rebounders around them. Volume scoring means NOTHING now with those guys.
5. Will the 2048 Hornets be more dominant than the 2047 Magic?
-They should be. The only question is whether they can find someone who's an even better fit than Trapp. Buse is better than than NVL, and depth wise they'll probably be better off than I was. Even if they're better, they still may not win more games, I was pretty lucky to have started 49-1 with the point differential I had.
6. How many titles will Aar win? If he wins 3 more with Bingo, is his resume better than yours?
-He should manage to pull off three. He has as much talent as I ever did around Bingo, there's really no reason he shouldn't. I suppose Willie Davis could decline, but all in all there's no reason they shouldn't win. Either way, Aar's a great GM, have to give him a ton of credit for having the type of assets to pull off a trade for Bingo and for pulling the trigger. Was shocked that pretty much no one else was throwing themselves at me for Bingo. In terms of where that puts his resume in comparision to mine? I don't know, even if he wins three championships in the next three years, I'll still have been here for less than half the time he has and have 5 championships to his 8.
I don't really care if I'm considered the best GM here or not, I just want to be in the conversation. The only reason I really ever bring it up is because how often Play would use his 7 rings as some sort of ultimate "I know better than you" reference.
7. Explain to us all what makes you a better GM than Play.
-I win more often. Pretty plain and simple from my perspective. Play can claim I use gimmicks or whatever he wants, but the simple fact of the matter is I've won far more frequently than he has, despite all of us playing by the same rules. Use excuses all you want, but those won't change anything.
8. Is Play the 2nd best GM in the league? If he's not, who is better? If he isn't....who rank your top 10.
10!? Shit, what is this, a GM rankings article? I'll give you 5 and then a bunch of dudes I like. Also not including myself, just because:
1. Play - Play's still a great gm obviously, I only take shots at him because he's fallen off the past ten seasons or so and I want to see him return to prime form again.
2. Aar - He'll leap Play if he wins as much as he should with Bingo.
3. Skillz - Some bad luck over the years, but he's won pretty consistently. I think he overdid it on trading so many futures, but he's proven that he won't let those picks go lotto, even if it means his team stalling for a few years.
4. Habes - Not the best stretch for him now with all those picks being out of pocket, but typically he gets the job done.
5. Broph - If he doesn't do some major winning with Bobby Jones he drops in my rankings a good amount.
After that, DJ, Nanz, DBW, Jordan, and Marty all do a solid job. And CC I guess, meh at that tanking with Reed/Barry shit though.
9. Who will be the top 5 players from this draft class and why?
1. Michael Cooper - 100 potential for sure, the TC gods will shape him into an all around stud.
2. Bernard King - Is there any doubt he turns into an elite scorer?
3. Jack Sikma - TC doesn't tend to love outside shooting bigs, might not be a bad idea to move him to SF for TC. I'm hoping he becomes a better version of Kwan Xi?
4. Cedric Maxwell - He seems George Trapp esque? What's better than George Trapp? Really I don't know in these last few spots, drafts are such a crap shoot thanks to TC. Maxwell or Johnson could be great, or they could be mediocre, impossible to know. I gave the knod to Maxwell because he's an enjoyable color guy for the Celtics on the radio .
5. Mke Glenn - I legitimately believe this, which is sort of sad. Think he becomes an elite scorer though.
10. You are generally pretty laid back. Let's change that. Take this time to call someone out.
Jay - I thought you were better than this man? Be better.
Biggie - SMH at showing so little interest in Bingo. This goes for pretty much the entire league too.
Play - Stop making excuses and win.
HeatFlash - Stop acting like you know things/being all internet tough when it comes to BBS stuff. Play's won, he can back up some of the bullshit, you can't. I just read that HF article where he references hoes, basing this pretty much entirely off of that. Some of this could probably go for Styro/anyone else on the Play train.
Matt - Stats don't lie.
