1. Your 49-1. We all know what the plan for the season is but let's look down the line. How much longer will this team stay put?
-I'll probably ride it out until I don't think we can win 60+. Guys over 30 don't tend to have a ton of value, so I'm not sure what I'd get out of Willie or Norm come this offseason. Thankfully I have all my picks, so when the time comes to rebuild, anything I get for those dudes (and Bingo potentially) will be a huge plus. I'll probably do it like I did my last rebuild, stockpile on picks and wait until the time is right to cash in on them.
For what it's worth, I'd much rather be rebuilding, don't consider waiting for my already constructed team to win to be all that fun. The same way aar said he wouldn't want to take over the Cavs because there's not much building left to be done, GMing the Magic right now isn't all that interesting.
2. Would you ever consider trading Bingo and for who/what?
-As my team declines I'll consider it. I'd have to get to the point where I didn't feel like I was the favorite to win it all, and from there I'd consider moving Bingo for elite young talent. Regardless of where my team is, I'd certainly move him for Larry or Magic, though it's far from certain that a GM would be wiling to move one of them for an aging Bingo. With that said, there's a solid shot Bingo plays his entire career in Orlando.
3. Do you feel the rest of the team gets no love at all? Willie has been talked about before due to playing SG. NVL gets no love despite him being close to the apg record for the season. Any thoughts on this overall?
-Norm's solid, he's a great fit for my team, but he doesn't deserve a ton of love from the league either. He doesn't do anything all that special, he's just rock solid. Obviously I don't value assists, so I could care less if he averages 15 a game or 5. His defense is rock solid on the perimeter though, he gets steals, rebounds, and the turnovers are kept relatively low as well. There aren't a lot of other PGs I'd rather have for this team, but again, he wouldn't fit as well with other rosters as he does mine.
-Willie Davis certainly deserves more love, dude's putting up 23-11 with 4 spg+bpg, low turnovers, and a FG% above 50. There's absolutely nothing not to love about Willie. He's certainly a top 20 player in the league to me right now. Oh, and that's at SF, not SG now
-I don't want to talk Trapp up too much because I'm going to have to re-sign him again soon, but what's not to love with him? 7 rebounds at SG, 56% shooting, decent volume, doesn't turn the ball over, and must be a decent positional defender seeing as he's playing SG on one of the best defensive teams of all time.
-Mel doesn't get much love because he's largely been a disappointment compared to the hype he had coming into the league, but he's still rock solid despite his shitty ratings. Blocks, rebounds, low turnovers, respectable percentages. I'll take that any day of the week.
4. What's your win/loss record going to be at the end of the season and who do you think your going to lose to?
-I'd put the over under on losses at 5 I think. I'll lose at least one of my next three matches with the Bobcats, and then based on the law of averages I expect to lose two to three more games. My point differential is 20+, and that's great and all, but I've definitely had some luck to only have lost one game thus far.
5. Will you be resting anyone during the last sim? Are you afraid of having a record breaking season and having Bingo tear an ACL or some other injury?
-I've thought about this a decent amount, and I'm pretty sure I won't be resting anyone down the stretch. When you have a chance to make history, you have to go all out for it. Not doing everything I can to win as many games possible during what may well be the winningest season of all time would seem like a mistake.
6. Is there any team you realistically fear?
-The Bobcats. I mean they took me to OT this last sim and were dominating us through three quarters. Wouldn't surprise me at all if I lost to them in the ECF. Hell, knowing FBB I'll probably get upset by the Bulls or something.
7. What's up with Jay sucking you off openly lately?
-I thought that article was pretty much the greatest thing ever, deserved at least a 3, I mean come on. The black/white handshake? The Pasta Roni? If people here knew me like Jay does they'd find that shit hilarious.
8. People have been quietly shitting on you lately due to having Bingo. Sure, they still call you a top 2 GM but still consider you overrated. Odd but true, they do. Thoughts?
-Sure, Bingo is the GOAT, and it's hard not to do some winning with the GOAT. To me it's about the moves that I've made to surround Bingo with good fits, and even the moves that I made leading up to my acquistion of Bingo. I was able to trade Jerry Lucas for Bingo because I hadn't mortgaged my entire future in my previous title run, and thus didn't have to trade my best player to go get my picks back. I don't think too many GMs would have had their next three firsts coming off back to back 65+ win seasons. Now obviously there's a balancing point there, where you want to move picks while they still have value, but the point is I've never had to mortgage my future to build a contender. And despite never mortgaging my future, I've won as much as anyone while I've been here.
There's also the question of just how important my surrounding cast is. Why do KAJ and the TWolves have 22 less wins than Bingo and me? Surely Bingo isn't worth THAT many more wins that Kareem. And yet you look at the rest of the TWolves roster and you could easily argue that McAdoo and Monroe are more talented than Wilie and Trapp, so why is it that my team's dominant and the Wolves are a bit better than mediocre? It's not all Bingo.
9. Who needs to be fired for whatever reason? Who would you replace them with (anyone you want)?
-Meh, I wouldn't fire anyone right now, mainly because finding replacements isn't easy these days. To call a few guys out though: Outlawz has been pretty bleh in his return, Kobe's not much better, Hype's been far from spectacular.
Who I'd bring back:
I'm just going to name random people I remember from leagues I was in way back when:
Atown, my friend from middle school who I've talked to maybe twice since senior year of high school. Awful GM, but I liked beating him at things.
dashthemavsfan - remember him being a bit like Skillz, lots of trades, good dude.
ImfamousDane? - I think that was his name, you should remember I think. Best buds on the internet when we were 13 ftw.
10. Who do you hate having to deal with, whether it be on the boards or for trade talks (or both)?
Trades:
It depends on the situation, but Aar can be pretty brutal at times when he tries to sell you on something. I remember when I sent Tanner Thompson to him for Vince King, which was an absolute rape value wise but I did it for salary and fit reasons (Vince King later won a finals MVP, so I'm pretty sure I made the right choice), and aar was trying to sell me that King would be even better than KC Jones. King went on to have a nice career and was a perfect fit in the way that NVL is for me now, but c'mon man.
I also know Skillz doesn't enjoy (attempting) dealing with me, mainly because I rarely change my mind on things and will often sit on the fence for too long with a deal. I'd hate dealing with myself, so I can't blame Skillz.
Boards:
At this point I don't really mind anyone (other than Svedda). Marty becomes much more barable when you acknowledge that he's just trying to get a reaction out of people, and frankly the nonsensical arguing is good for activity.
11. What are your thoughts on what the Hornets have done this season?
-LOL, mainly. I mean, they tried to rush a rebuild, and now they have a less than mediocre team that doesn't seem to have a ton of upside to it. His lineup looks like it should fit together, Mix and Beard are both great, Cowens is pretty damned good, and McCarther is decent as well. It looks like he's getting some of the worst bench production out there though, and Hooser is brutal on offense, but really there's no reason a competent GM couldn't take what's on that roster and get 42 wins out of it one way or another.
12. NBN or BBS?
-BBS. I was never a huge fan of WillC's elitist attitude, and I appreciate BBS far more because everyone here tends to value the right things. That makes it more challenging. I can't pawn off a 13 APG PG as some superstar because everyone knows those assists don't matter.
13. The BBS champs will be....
-The Minnesota Timberwolves! I'm sensing this is the type of year where I inexplicably lose in the finals to a mediocre team in the West.
14. You went off on Kobe (the player) for not being clutch. Why and who do you want with the ball at the end of games?
-I'd rather have Durant or Dirk without any real hesitation. Both are more capabable of getting a quality look off even when the defense knows the ball is going to them.
Kobe's near the front of my list for a guy I'd want taking important free throws. I know he's not going to choke in a situation like that. My argument has never been that Kobe chokes or anything like that, but that he simply doesn't make the proper plays at the end of the game to give his team the best chance at winning. LeBron may legitimately choke at the free throw line late in games, but he also makes the right play at the end of the game more often. I'd much rather have Mario Chalmers taking an open three than Kobe fading away over three defenders.
15. Who's your favorite NBA team and why do they suck?
-The Nets! They're putting all their eggs in the Dwight basket, and that's probably the right choice for now, but if and when that doesn't work out, it's going to be a painful few years for Nets fans. For Gerald Green fans like me (not sure if any others exist?) it's going to be a great few seasons either way!
Outside of Gerald, my favorite team will always be the Celtics. They suck for more interesting reasons, namely that they settle for FAR too many midrange jumpers and don't rebound.
