The notes aren't out, but the prospects are. Let's see how they stack up ratings-wise in this mock lottery.
1) Indiana Pacers - Jack Sikma C 6'11'' 230 22 C+ B D+ B B+ A
This draft is pretty even at the top, but given that Sikma is a big man, I think that he'll get the nod for the first overall pick.
He can do a little bit of everything and a high quality outside shooting big man is pretty tough to find in this league.
Will Sikma be the real deal? Time will tell, but ratings-wise, he looks like the best player in the draft.
2) Washington Wizards select Bernard King SF 6'7'' 205 20 A- C D+ C C A
Expected to be a dynamic scorer, Bernard King will be the type of player that whoever selects him will have to wait on for a little bit.
He will likely be able to score 20 ppg in the right offense immediately, but will need some ACs and RCs to become a complete player.
While Sikma has better ratings, King may be the safer pick given the name value.
3) Atlanta Hawks select Marques Johnson SF 6'7'' 218 21 B+ C+ C B- C A
Johnson looks like the most BBS-ready prospect in the draft. Solid inside and out with serviceable defense, rebounding and high potential.
Johnson looks like the type of player who can make an immediate impact on his team and while his potential may not be as high as King, he is a much safer pick.
4) Phoenix Suns select Cedric Maxwell SF 6'8'' 205 21 B+ C C- B- C+ A
Like Johnson, Maxwell looks like another fairly safe pick. He has C+ rebounding, which is hard to come by for swingmen in the league today.
His shooting may be a detriment unless it's worked on and his defense can stand to improve.
The notes surrounding his handles rating will determine how high he goes in this draft.
5) Washington Wizards select Otis Birdsong SG 6'3'' 190 21 B+ B C C D+ A
Birdsong looks like he'll be a dynamic scorer immediately.
Like many of the shooting guards who have been entering the league, his rebounding looks like a concern and his defense is completely unestablished.
This is likely the highest that Birdsong can go in the draft.
6) Milwaukee Bucks select Kent Benson C 6'10'' 235 22 B- C- D+ B- B- A
Benson is the second-best big man in a draft that has few of them. The B- ratings are always a turnoff, but all Benson needs is one good TC to be a solid center.
His notes will be the determining factor for where he ends up being drafted. His ability to block will be make or break.
7) Milwaukee Bucks select Michael Cooper SG 6'5'' 170 21 C+ C+ C+ B C+ A
Cooper looks like a very versatile player who can do a little bit of everything.
If his A potential holds true, he could end up being the most well-rounded player in the draft.
Cooper could end up going higher than this if a GM is confident that his potential is high.
8) L.A. Clippers select Norm Nixon PG 6'2'' 170 22 C+ C+ B B+ D A
There is a glut of quality point guards in this draft, but none of them appear to be top-tier. Nixon is the best of the bunch with solid handling and defense.
His offense will be the determining factor, but currently, he looks like a poor man's Al Skinner and that doesn't bode well for him at the moment.
If Nixon's steals are mentioned as a plus in his notes, I expect him to be a lock for a top-10 pick and he could go top-5 if someone is drafting on need.
9) San Antonio Spurs select Walter Davis SG 6'6'' 193 23 B B C+ C+ D+ A
Another potentially dynamic scorer, despite having really poor rebounding.
Davis looks like someone who can be a very exciting player.
If he has a solid TC, he could end up being B+ B+ B- B- D+ A right off the bat.
Obviously, a +4 TC right away isn't the most likely, but those ratings would make him an immediate starter.
10) Boston Celtics select T.R. Dunn SG 6'4'' 192 22 B C C A- C+ A
Dunn looks like he could be the best defender in the draft.
His offense looks very poor, but his defense and rebounding will make him a hot commodity.
The big question is whether or not he'll end up being a stats defender, which is what determines how high he can go.
11) New Orleans Hornets select Ray Williams PG 6'3'' 188 23 C+ C+ B A- C B
Williams essentially looks like Norm Nixon, but with better rebounding and lower potential. Also, Nixon doesn't live in his car like Williams does.
Depending on how his handles are depicted in his notes, I expect that Williams will be a lottery pick with those ratings.
Point guards who can rebound are becoming a rare commodity.
12) Cleveland Cavaliers select Eddie Johnson PG 6'2'' 180 22 B C+ B B- D B
"Fast Eddie", despite being a convicted pedophile, has very nice ratings and it would be tough to pass him up at this point in the draft.
While his ratings are similar to Brad Davis, Johnson gets the nod because he's a more talented defensive player.
13) Indiana Pacers select Eddie Jordan PG 6'1'' 170 22 C+ C+ C+ A D+ B
Jordan is the point guard equivalent to Michael Cooper in this draft.
He looks like a really solid hit-or-miss prospect.
The biggest difference between Cooper and Jordan is that Jordan has B potential rather than A potential, which is why he drops to the bottom of the lottery.
