This article will break down the top-50 players in BBS in terms of their trade value, taking into account their stats, ratings and contract. These stats are from before Day 71.
10) Fred Brown
SG 27 6'3'' 182 B+ A B+ B+ C+ C
39.3 mpg 29.4 ppg 7.4 rpg 4.7 apg 1.7 spg 0.3 bpg 2.4 topg .475 fg% .847 ft% .400 3p%
Probably a controversial choice for the top-10 due to his high turnovers number, however Brown is a prolific scorer and an above average rebounder and passer for his position. He shoots solid percentages, gets steals and recently made the All-League 1st team for the second time in his career.
Brown is on a losing team this year, but definitely warrants his top-10 placement.
I expect that he'll be a staple on the Bulls for awhile to come and Play doesn't seem to be willing to let him go anywhere.
9) George Gervin
SF 23 6'7'' 180 B+ A- C A- C A
38.7 mpg 26.0 ppg 6.4 rpg 3.2 apg 1.1 spg 1.2 bpg 2.2 topg .447 fg% .788 ft% .447 3p%
Not a lot of people are paying a ton of attention to the 76ers with the exception of their insane Lavern Tart signing, but they should take a look at Gervin.
His percentages could stand to get better, but he's 23, still has upside and does everything well.
His turnovers per game could stand to improve and a few more steals wouldn't hurt, but Gervin's well on his way to becoming elite.
I guess we'll see where he ends up by the end of next season. Will the 76ers hold onto him and hope to make their CY or trade him to a ton of talent to ensure that they do.
8) Kermit Washington
C 24 6'8'' 230 A- C- C A+ B+ A
34.1 mpg 17.4 ppg 10.3 rpg 2.0 apg 0.7 spg 2.8 bpg 1.2 topg .479 fg% .691 ft% .000 3p%
While I'm not sure how he's co-existing with teammate Rudy Tomjanovich (awk....ward), he's certainly putting up admirable numbers.
It is tough to find bigs with A+ defense, let alone in their third year in the league.
Kermit's percentages are good for a big man and his stats for being a third option all season are solid.
Once his rebounding jumps up to A-, he'll definitely be considered among the league's most valuable.
7) Bob Lanier
C 27 6'11'' 250 A- C D A+ A C
35.6 mpg 19.9 ppg 12.7 rpg 2.0 apg 1.3 spg 3.6 bpg 2.2 topg .453 fg% .790 ft% .000 3p%
The Dobber is another A+ defensive big. He is essentially a more established version of Kermit, but with worse handles, however, he does everything else better than Kermit and that's why he's higher up at this point.
At only 27 years old, Lanier has many years ahead of him as being one of the league's premier big men.
With Bingo in the league, it's irritating to see so many bigs who are volume blockers and get steals that will essentially never be in consideration for DPOY.
If Lanier get get under 2 topg, he'll be in great shape to one day be top-5.
6) Bill Walton
C 23 6'11'' 210 B+ C- B- A- A- A
31.0 mpg 17.2 ppg 10.4 rpg 3.3 apg 1.0 spg 2.0 bpg 1.0 topg .458 fg% .696 ft% .000 3p%
Walton isn't as elite defensively as many of the other bigs that precede him, but there's no denying that he has the upside to become better.
If Walton has one more good TC, he could be A- C B- A A- B as soon as next season, which would make him among the league's elite and one of the most unique big men in awhile.
He could stand to improve his shooting percentage and would likely be more suited to an inside offense, which is the direction that the Bucks may look to go.
5) Moses Malone
C 20 6'10'' 260 A- C C- C+ A A
34.4 mpg 24.2 ppg 11.0 rpg 2.9 apg 0.7 spg 1.2 bpg 1.3 topg .466 fg% .817 ft% .000 3p%
Like Walton, Moses does not yet have the defensive acumen required to be truly elite. However, he makes up for it with elite rebounding and stellar scoring.
Pair the above with the fact that he's still only 20 and there's no denying that Moses is a top-5 player value-wise in BBS.
4) Bobby Jones
SF 23 6'9'' 210 B C+ C A C+ A
36.1 mpg 24.5 ppg 7.4 rpg 1.4 apg 2.4 spg 2.8 bpg 0.9 topg .488 fg% .936 ft% .390 3p%
He's still Bingo Lite and he probably always will be, but Bobby Jones, in only his second year in the league, is already an elite player on both ends of the court.
Other players with his ratings will go for the MLE, but it's not his ratings that make him special, it's what he does with his ratings.
Jones has a long future ahead of him and will likely be a top-5 player for most of them. Good on Broph for picking him up and I doubt that he'll move him any time soon.
3) Elvin Hayes
C 29 6'9'' 235 A- C C- A+ A D
36.9 mpg 24.0 ppg 13.5 rpg 2.3 apg 1.3 spg 4.0 bpg 1.3 topg .457 fg% .909 ft% .000 3p%
Hayes and Lanier are nearly identical, but Hayes is a better scorer, rebounder, jump shooter and ball handler.
While Hayes is a few years older than Lanier, there's no denying that he's a better, more valuable player. In a straight up trade for anyone listed before him, you're taking Elvin Hayes.
2) Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
C 28 7'2'' 225 A C C- A- A B
37.3 mpg 32.9 ppg 14.0 rpg 2.3 apg 1.0 spg 4.0 bpg 1.4 topg .509 fg% .801 ft% .000 3p%
It's shocking that a player with Kareem's numbers would ever not be considered the most valuable player in the league, but here we are.
KAJ is an absolute stud who dominates his opponents and does everything at an elite level.
There's not much more that you could ask for in a player, especially a big man.
1) Bingo Smith
SF 29 6'5'' 195 A- A C B+ B D
36.9 mpg 36.1 ppg 10.3 rpg 4.5 apg 1.9 spg 3.8 bpg 1.4 topg .485 fg% .909 ft% .493 3p%
When you look at his stats, you do a double take.
The best player in league history was traded twice before he ever played a single minute - for Stephen Chubin in one deal and Jerry Lucas in another.
Both Skillz and I will be kicking ourselves for a long time to come.
10) Fred Brown
SG 27 6'3'' 182 B+ A B+ B+ C+ C
39.3 mpg 29.4 ppg 7.4 rpg 4.7 apg 1.7 spg 0.3 bpg 2.4 topg .475 fg% .847 ft% .400 3p%
