Everything in life has rules. So does the premise of this article. No players on rookie deals are allowed. One year max contract don’t either. Also, I will try to use each team in the East*. Baseball type rules here. We must all be included somewhere. With that said, let’s go.
Best Values
C: Lamar Green, 21 Mil for 4 seasons:
Here’s the Magic’s addition to the list. He plays his role very nicely and gives the Magic a potential double double/2 bpg guy at the front court without having to break the bank (currently at 10 ppg and 9 rpg with 2 bpg). That’s always something GM’s look for. Biggest weaknesses Green has is his shooting percentages and turnovers. If your just looking for a defensive big though, Green can handle that. He's obviously doing fine in Orlando.
PF: Walt Wesly, 68.6 Mil for 5 seasons:
Well, I did say everyone was going to be included. Miami’s only realistic addition is here. Bigs that average a double double with over 3.5 bpg are usually given big time contracts. His shooting percentages do hurt his stock but there’s no denying he’s a solid enough player to play big minutes for a contender. Currently giving Miami 11 ppg, 11 rpg and 3.6 bpg.
SF: Dan Issel, 70.2 Mil for 5 seasons:
Don’t think much of a write up has to be made for this man. 29 points on 48% from the field, 40% from 3 along with 9 rebounds per game. Let’s say it again, he’s on a great contract. If you want to nitpick, sure, his D can be better. I doubt the 55-9 Bobcats are all that worried about that, however. No denying he may be the best value in the league right now.
SG: Fred Carter, 17.5 Mil for 2 seasons:
Serious question. If we didn’t include Carter or any other Raptor, would you notice they were missing? Important question to ponder. Anyways, Carter is good. Between this and the aar article, Carter’s getting more love then he has during his tenure in Toronto. Not many bad things can be said about this man. He can score, rebound and pass. Plays great D, low turnovers and great percentages. Carter just gets it done and won’t be touching the 10 Mil mark this or next season. Very good contract. Remember, he plays for Toronto.
PG: Fatty Taylor, 12.6 Mil for 3 seasons:
This fucker is making rookie contract type money, yet he’s 29? How’d this happen? Might not be the best option as the starting PG but for the cash, it’s hard to go wrong. He’s played very solidly for the Hawks thus far. Would be nice to see him getting a AC or 3, especially to his turnovers. Let’s see it, Jay. That aside, he’s a good rebounder for a point guard, assists are alright but scoring is what the fat man really brings. 20 ppg on 48% from the field and 40% from 3. Let’s not forget the A defense.
6th man: Herm Gilliam, 14 Mil for 2 seasons:
Another case of “I needed a player from the team”, Herm does fill in the bench role in a great way. Obviously capable to scoring and playing some D, seems like the perfect candidate for a SG/PG back up for a outside shooting team. He has won a 6th man of the year award so obviously, FBB doesn’t disagree. Currently giving the Wiz 15.5 ppg on 45% from the field and 41% from 3. Also 4.5 rpg, 3.5 apg and 1.6 spg in under 27 mpg.
7th man: Sam Lacey, 8.1 Mil for 2 seasons:
Another guy making rookie salary type money. The turnovers are a bit much for a big but he's giving the Raptors 3 bpg and 1.2 spg along with almost a double double. Obviously a capable starting big and likely a very good back up C/PF type. Another Raptor, obviously showing why DJ is still a good GM despite the activity stuff. Yeah, he plays for Toronto, in case you didn't know.
8th man: Ron Boone, 14.4 Mil for 3 seasons
Quietly having a solid season for the Pistons (17 ppg, 6 rpg on 47% from the field and 43% from 3), he is currently making less then MLE type money. He’s something you’d want from your 4th or 5th starter. Can score, grab rebounds and plays D. Turnovers might be a bit more then you’d want but for the salary he’s making, I don’t see the issue. The A defense is another important aspect of his game.

C: Willis Reed, 119 Mil for 5 more seasons:
Reed has this position locked up for the next 4 seasons. Quite easily to be exact. Wtf Biggie? He’s still a good player, don’t get me wrong. Double double guy, over 3 bpg. The numbers are capable but his salary is just horrible to look at and obviously his best years are behind him. The amazing thing is that he has been moved twice this season and considering who has him, I expect him to be traded again within the next 2 seasons.
PF: Zaid Abdul-Aziz, 75 Mil for 4 more seasons:
It was either between him and Rudy T (at best value) for the Nets. I decided to place Zaid in the line up. Zaid, back in the day, was a solid double double along with 2 bpg. Now a days, he’s warming up the bench for the Nets. The numbers aren’t to bad but considering how much he’s getting paid and how bleak his future seems, he’s going down the Horace Walker path.
SF: Horace Walker, 49.4 Mil for 2 more seasons:
I mean, he used to be a very good player. Defensive stud. Now a days, he’s a decent role player making superstar money. While there is a decent shot at him retiring, the likely hood of him passing up 25 Mil isn’t all that great to be honest. At least he’s the only bad contract Boston has and they are just starting to rebuild so it won’t bother them all that much down the line.
SG: Maurice McHartley, 41.9 Mil for 3 seasons:
Solid bench guy but definitely not worth the contract he's currently getting. Still a very capable 6th man type role player, which is exactly what he's playing in Detroit. His defense goes up at PG, which might have to be his next move. As is though, he's a back up giving the Pistons a solid jump off the bench (13 ppg, 3 rpg, 3 apg on 47% from the field and 41% from 3).
PG: Clem Haskins, 28.2 Mil for 2 seasons:
Not all that different from Lerern Tart. Only a 2 year deal but he’s a tanking PG for sure. Hell, start Haskins and Tart and you may never win a game. The shooting percentages are solid though(45% from the field, 95% from the FT line and 40% from 3), which screams either “SG or bench guy”. Still, he’s starting for Indy at PG. Amazingly enough, the other PG options for the Pacers are worse. Congrats Haskins. Your suckiness at the point isn’t as much as the other 4 PG’s on Indy’s roster!
6th man: Darnell Hillman, 90 Mil for 6 seasons:
This was a tough one for me. He’s just coming off a rookie deal and his shot blocking is pretty damn great. Still, that aside, the rest of his numbers leave a lot to be desired. The shooting percentages are horrific and the rebounding isn't all that great to look at either. Still, as I've said throughout, double double guys that can bring shot blocking as well are usually paid more then there actual worth. Obviously, this is the case with Hillman as well.
7th man: Levern Tart, 29.4 Mil for 2 seasons:
I know, only 2 seasons but the tanking machine definitely should have made the list somewhere. Plus, the sixers needed someone on the list. The most controversial FA signing this past off season, it’s still a bit shocking as to why he got a 2 year deal but here it is. His shooting percentages have been sub par all season and he is still turning it over way to much. At least he’s helping Philly suck this season.
8th man: Jerome Anderson, 14.8 for 3 seasons:
Who the fuck is this and why is he making MLE money? Honestly, I wanted to include the Bulls and it was either Anderson for Silas. Death by strangulation or mutilation type situation there.
*Cavs didn’t qualify at all. Good job Marty.
