A great draft. One of the best drafts in a long time. The draft has everything except for a stud pg. 2 superstars at the top. Good players all through the lotto. I really like 11 guys and I'm pretty sure that looking back people will be sorry that #11 wasn't picked earlier. Only 28 first round picks this year bc of the Bulls hc penalty and it wouldn't shock me if even some of the 25-28 guys end up starting.
1. Denver Nuggets- George Gervin SG 6'7'' 180 22 B+ B C- B C A
George or Bill?? That is the question. Some will argue that Bill is better and that in any case given the glut of sg/sf he should be the pick. Obviously whichever one I pick will be worse. He seems that he could develop into a Bingo type player and that doesn¡¦t come around every year.
2. LA Clippers - Bill Walton C 6'11'' 210 22 B C- B+ B B+ A
Easy pick at #2. He has a very solid post game. He rebounds and blocks. His lake of athleticism will probably make people like him better. Brook Lopez wo the jump shot??
3. Philadelphia 76ers - Marvin Barnes PF 6'8'' 210 22 B C D+ B B A
Big drop between 2 and 3. Does most things well but handling issues are a concern. Also will randomly chuck up threes. On the other hand he can block and steal. He also scores well in the post and has a decent midrange game.
4. Cleveland Cavaliers - John Drew SF 6'6'' 205 20 B+ B- C- C+ C+ A
I think that 4-6 are really close. I could even see somebody taking Elmore bc of position scarcity. If somebody had guts they might even take Bobby Jones bc of really good notes but my guess is that won't happen. Drew will go over Wilkes bc of a significant rebounding edge.
5. Charlotte Bobcats - Len Elmore C 6'9'' 220 22 C+ C- D A- B- B
Len and Bobby Jones both had their stock jump after notes. Not going to help much on the offensive end Len is very strong as well as a good post defender and shot blocker who can really rebound. I like both Wilkes and Smith better but even though I don't like drafting for need in the top 5 I really don't see what the cats will do with Wilkes since they have Gale and Kenon.
6. Milwaukee Bucks - Jamaal Wilkes SF 6'6'' 190 21 B+ B C C+ D+ A
Wilkes is a better ball handler and shooter than Drew but is a poor defender and rebounder. Assumedly he will get moved to sg but that D+ is still ugly and causes him to drop to 6.
7. Orlando Magic (from Phoenix Suns)- Phil Smith SG 6'4'' 185 22 B C+ B B+ C A
Phil probably won't develop into the scorer that the previous 2 players will but he looks much better defensively and is also a good rebounder for a sg. Tcs will decide if he becomes a star or just a good starter. If there was a decent pg prospect the Magic would have scooped him up but the class looks pretty meh.
8. Miami Heat - Mickey Johnson PF 6'10'' 190 22 B C C- B C+ A
I like Billy Knight better but the heat already have Carr and Collins.Mickey goes ahead of Truck based on his ft shooting.
9. Utah Jazz - Billy Knight SG 6'6'' 195 22 B B C- C+ C- A
The Jazz are one of a few teams that have solid bigs. I think that billy knight will turn into a great scorer. Solid handles and elite quickness are a killer combo. Of course he can't play d or defend but you can't have everything at #9.
10. Charlotte Bobcats (from Portland trailblazers) - Truck Robinson PF 6'7'' 225 23 B D+ D- C+ B- A
The Bobcats get another big here. Truck is aptly named. He's very strong and a beast in the post on both ends. He scores well inside and is a solid post defender and rebounder. Not a numbers defender and can't hit a ft.
11. Miami Heat (from Indiana Pacers - Chicago Bulls forfeit pick bc of hc penalty) - Bobby Jones SF 6'9'' 210 22 B C C A- C B
When all is said and done he might be George Gervin wo a three point shot but with better handles. Of course he also might not be ļ. He does seem to pretty much do it all.
12. Charlotte Bobcats (from SA Spurs) - Jan Van Breda Kolff SF 6'7'' 195 22 C+ B C A C B
Ahead of Campy by the slimmest of margins mainly bc gms prefer stats defenders. Also touted as a great ball handler.
13. Washington Wizards - Campy Russell SF 6'8'' 215 22 B C+ C- A C B
Not really a lotto pick bc the Bulls forfeited a lotto but the fifth sf taken in the first 13 picks.
14. GS Warriors (from OKC) - Foots Walker PG 6'0'' 172 23 C B- B+ B C B
15. NO Hornets - Tom McMillen PF 6'11'' 215 22 B+ C C- C+ C+ B
16. Philadelphia 76ers (from Detroit Pistons) - John Shumate C 6'9'' 235 22 B C C C B B
17. Atl Hawks - Kevin Restani C 6'9'' 225 22 B- C C- B+ C+ B
18. LA Clippers (from Boston Celtics)- Kevin Restani C 6'9'' 225 22 B- C C- B+ C+ B
19. NJ Nets - Brian Winters SG 6'4'' 185 22 C+ A- B- C+ D+ B
20. Philadelphia 76ers (from GS Warriors) - Mike Sojourner C 6'9'' 225 21 C+ C- D+ B- B+ C
21. Memphis Grizzlies - Al Skinner PG 6'3'' 190 22 C+ C+ B- B+ C B
22. Houston Rockets - Aaron James PF 6'8'' 210 22 B+ C C C+ C+ C
23. Denver Nuggets (from Dallas Mavs) - Cliff Pondexter C 6'9'' 233 20 C C D+ B+ B C
24. Minnesota Timberwolves- Stan Washington SG 6'4'' 190 22 C B B- B- C- B
25. Denver Nuggets (from LA Lakers) - Tom Burleson C 7'2'' 225 22 C+ C- D- B B C
26. Toronto Raptors - Earl Williams C 6'7'' 230 23 C D D+ B+ B C
27. LA Clippers (from NY Knicks) - Scott Wedman SF 6'7'' 215 22 C+ A- C- C C B
28. Orlando Magic - Gary Brokaw PG 6'4'' 178 20 C+ C+ B C+ D+ B
