Not a great draft. After Bob and Dave the draft falls off. Pete can't play D and might be a to whore. Rudy is boring. Tiny and Calvin look like starters not stars. Draft dies at around 20. There are a few guys like Johnson and Smith who are interesting but far from guaranteed.
1. Phoenix Suns- Bob Lanier C 6'11'' 250 22 B C D+ A- B A
Suns have very little talent. They have Bradley and Allen. Good thing that they pick up Bob Lanier. He scores, rebounds, plays d and blocks shots. He will be an all star for years to come. He might have to issues but he should be able to overcome them. He even does the little things that centers don't always do like hit fts and get steals.
2. Atlanta Hawks (from Memphis Grizzlies) - Dave Cowens C 6'9'' 230 22 B- C C+ B A- A
Easy pick at #2. Another 2 way player who can score and defend. He wont be a bigtime shotblocker but his steals should make up for that. He will be a dominant rebounder from day 1.
3. Orlando Magic - Pete Maravich SG 6'5'' 197 23 B+ B+ B+ C C B
Bingo and Pistol Pete. Gonna need 2 basketballs in Orlando. Pete is a super scorer who can go inside or pop the 3. His quickness helps him get free for shots as well as stealing. Not a great defender besides his stealing ability. Also might have to problems.
4. Dallas Mavericks - Rudy Tomjanovich SF 6'8'' 218 21 B+ C D+ B C+ A
Rudy won't be a superstar but with his upside he should become a very good starter with no real holes in his game.
5. San Antonio Spurs - Tiny Archibald PG 6'1'' 150 22 B- B- B+ C D- A
The Spurs can definitely use a pg. Tiny could be a great player or turn into another Jimmy Jones. He can score and gets to the rim but he has a bunch of holes in his game. He isn't a great defender, can't hit the three and is a poor rebounder.
6. Los Angeles Lakers - John Johnson SF 6'7'' 200 23 B C+ C+ B C+ A
Lakers don't need a sf and I don't think that he won't go this high anyway but if he goes much lower he could be the steal of the draft. He will be a stats defender and rebound well for a sf as well as being a good offensive player. Really nobody stands out at this point, there is an elite shotblocker left as well as a great scorer but nobody stands out.
7. Utah Jazz- Randy Smith SG 6'3'' 180 21 B B- B+ A- C+ B
Randy is another player that I really like. Randy could pair with George Carter at the wings for years to come. He is a great offensive player that won't turn the ball over either. Also a great rebounder for a sg. . may end up being SF.
8. LA Lakers (from Detroit Pistons) - Calvin Murphy PG 5'9'' 165 22 B C+ C+ B+ D- B
Lotto pick # 2 for La. I think they will try to get a pg here bc I don't think that Williams is a long term answer. Not a three point bomber he is a great inside/midrange scorer. He doesn't turn the ball over a lot Very quick and a solid defender. He could be a championship pg with the right cast around him.
9. Toronto Raptors - Dan Issel PF 6'9'' 235 22 B+ C+ C- C C A
Dan is a great scorer so I can't see him falling much farther. If his D goes up when he is inevitably moved to sf, this will be a nice pick.
10. Atlanta Hawks - George T. Johnson C 6'11'' 205 21 C+ C- D+ A- B B
If the Hawks get Cowens and George T they will be set in the frontcourt for years. GTJ is an elite shot blocker and would fit in very well next to Cowens. Also, the Hawk could let Boerwinkle back up the 4/5, which is what he should be doing in this league. Not horrid on the offensive end but that isn't what gets him drafted here.
11. Detroit Pistons (from Philadelphia 76ers) - Charlie Scott SF 6'5'' 175 21 B+ C+ A- B+ C+ B
He does a little but of everything but nothing really sticks out. He will have to issues and 3pt shot issues but he should be a good defender and rebounder and that should be enough to get him in the lotto.
12. Milwaukee Bucks (from Cleveland Cavaliers) - Sam Lacey C 6'10'' 235 22 C+ C C- A- A- B
Sam will be a defensive force. He will be a big time stats defender and rebounder. Don't ask questions about his offense bc it is non-existent.
13. Denver Nuggets (from Miami Heat) - Gar Heard SF 6'6'' 219 22 C+ C- C- A- B A
He will be a great backup sf and could even start in the right situation. He is a top defender and a very good rebounder for a sf.
14. Charlotte Bobcats (from Denver Nuggets) - George Irvine SF 6'6'' 200 22 B+ C+ C- B+ C B
15. Milwaukee Bucks - Rick Mount PG 6'3'' 175 23 C B C C+ D- A
16. La Lakers (from Boston Celtics) - Jim McMillian SF 6'5'' 215 22 B+ C C- A- C+ B
17. Utah Jazz (from GS Warriors) - Geoff Petrie SG 6'4'' 190 22 C A- C+ C D A
18. La Lakers (from Washington Wizards)- Cornell Warner C 6'9'' 220 22 C C C- A- B C
19. Memphis Grizzlies (from Los Angeles Clippers) - Steve Patterson C 6'9'' 225 22 C D+ D+ B+ A- C
20. Minnesota Timberwolves (from Oklahoma City Thunder) - Joe Hamilton PG 5'10'' 160 22 C B C+ B+ D+ C
21. Memphis Grizzlies (from Portland Trail Blazers) - Oliver Taylor SG 6'2'' 194 23 B+ C C- B+ C C
22. Orlando Magic (from Charlotte Bobcats) - Dennis Awtrey C 6'10'' 235 22 C D+ D+ A- B- C
