Deep draft. I don't see a lot of forfeited first rounders this year. The prize of the draft is the next great pg in a league which has lately lacked young pgs. Dave Bing is the do everything first pick. Lots of teams will be happy with the players that fall to them bc there are a bunch of ready to play players in the draft.
1. LA Clippers - Dave Bing PG 6'3'' 180 22 B B- B B- C A
The next great pg. The Clippers do have Bob Weiss at pg but that won't stop them from taking Bing. It has been said that Bing can do it all, he can score, pass and play d. He even grabs some rebounds.
2. Boston Celtics - Lou Hudson SF 6'5'' 210 22 B B C B C+ A
Lou Hudson is kind of like David Bing except that he plays sf. He scores, he won't turn over the ball. He grabs rebounds and can block and steal. Tart and Hudson will give them a solid pair of wings for the next decade or so.
3. Golden State Warriors - Jack Marin SF 6'7'' 200 22 B- B- C B+ C+ A
The Warriors are a pretty horrible team but they have 3 picks in the first round so that could change in a hurry. They have Walt and pretty much nothing else. Marin isn't quite the scorer that Hudson is but he is a very solid two way player.
4. Charlotte Bobcats - Cazzie Russell SF 6'5'' 218 21 B+ B- C- B+ D+ A
The Bobcats should have 2 solid picks in this draft. They already have Jon McGlocklin at sg so they will have 3 solid young players. Cazzie looks like a great player although his rebounding leaves a lot to be desired. Cazzie should mesh well with McGlocklin and they should both dominate down low.
5. Washington Wizards - Archie Clark PG 6'2'' 175 23 B- B B- C+ C A
2nd best pg prospect in this class. A super quick player that can score inside and out. They have a decent sg in Caldwell and little other young talent. They really have to move Hollis and Ellis for picks while they still have value.
6. Charlotte Bobcats (from Denver Nuggets) - Walt Wesley C 6'11'' 220 21 B- C- C- B- B- A
The truth is that the next couple of guys on my list are both sgs and the Bobcats don't need another sg. They can also afford to take a risk here on a player with high upside. Wesley can turn into a two way player down low provided that he develops well.
7. Detroit Pistons - Dick Snyder SG 6'5'' 207 21 A- C C B D+ B
He reminds a lot of people of Jon McGlocklin. He can score inside and from midrange but doesn't have a 3 pt shot. He doesn't turn it over. He is a very good man to man defender but not a stats defender.
8. Golden State Warriors (from Atlanta Hawks) - Donnie Freeman SG 6'3'' 185 22 A- B C+ C C B
And just like that the Warriors have a nice 1/2/3 in Walt/Freeman/Marin. Just need some depth and bigs that can play d and they could have a nice team.
9. Cleveland Cavaliers - Joe Ellis SF 6'6'' 175 22 C+ C C- A- A- A
Kind of a reach at #9 but Ellis is a great fit with Barry who could be move to sg. Ellis is a great defender who will get plenty of steals and rebounds. He won't have to score a lot with Barry around but he has a great jump shot if left open.
10. Dallas Mavericks - Stew Johnson C 6'8'' 220 22 B- B+ D+ B- C+ B
Tons of boring players left at this point. Guys that don't have star quality but could come in and start within a year of two. The Mavs would love to get a pg here but there is nobody deserving of a pick here. Johnson won't be able to play sf which will limit his value but he looks to be the rare big man with an outside shot.
11. Toronto Raptors - Jim Barnett SF 6'4'' 170 21 C+ B+ C- B+ C- B
Jim will be a poor man's Dick Barnett. He can score, steal and take care of the ball. Also touted as having some upside so he should get better.
12. Atlanta Hawks (from OKC Thunder) - Red Robbins C 6'8'' 190 22 C+ B+ C- B C+ B
Another shoot first big man. Some gms will be scared off by the "can't block" label but others will focus on his shooting and his post D.
13. Portland Trailblazers (from Houston Rockets) - Clyde Lee C 6'10'' 205 22 C+ C- D+ A- A- B
A great rebounder and a terrific man to man defender. Players like that are always good to have on any team.
14. Chicago Bulls - John Beasley C 6'9'' 225 22 B B D+ B B B
15. Denver Nuggets (from Portland Trailblazers) - Julian Hammond SF 6'5'' 205 23 B+ C- C- A- B C
16. GS Warriors (from Miami heat) - Freddie Lewis PG 6'0'' 175 23 C+ B C+ B C- B
17. Toronto Raptors (from nj nets) - Stephen Chubin PG 6'2'' 200 22 C+ B B- B C+ B
18. Detroit Pistons (from Minnesota Timberwolves) - John Block C 6'9'' 207 22 B- C C B+ B B
19. Charlotte Bobcats (from Philadelphia 76ers) - Dorie Murrey C 6'8'' 215 23 C C- D+ A- B B
20. Charlotte Bobcats (from Indiana Pacers) - Matt Guokas PG 6'5'' 175 22 B C B C D B
21. Milwaukee Bucks (from LA Lakers) - John Wetzel SG 6'5'' 190 22 B- C C A- C+ C
22. Orlando Magic - Stan McKenzie SG 6'5'' 195 22 C+ A- D+ C+ D+ B
23. Toronto Raptors (from Memphis Grizzlies) - Johnny Austin PG 6'0'' 170 22 C B- C C C- A
24. Phoenix Suns - John Comeaux SG 6'5'' 193 23 C+ B C C C- A
25. SA Spurs - Ken Wilburn SF 6'6'' 195 22 C D+ C- B+ A- C
26. Washington Wizards(from Utah Jazz) - Lonnie Wright SG 6'2'' 205 22 B- B C B D+ B
27. Milwaukee Bucks - Bob McIntyre SF 6'6'' 215 22 A- C D+ C+ C C
28. Milwaukee Bucks (from NO Hornets) - Lonnie Lynn SF 6'7'' 215 23 B C C- B B- B
29. (from NY Knicks) - George Peeples C 6'7'' 190 23 B C- D+ B+ B- C
