With TC approaching, let's try to peg this lotto before we know more about these players and their upside. In a draft that was criticized by some for lack of originality and for its poor shooting guard spects, less hype surrounded the 2025 off-season than most in BBS' past. Despite this, the 2025 draft included a player that could change the BBS landscape for a long time: Elgin Baylor.
Let's get to the grades:
1. New Orleans Hornets - Elgin Baylor SF 6'5'' 225 21 B+ C B+ C+ B+ A
Nothing really to say here. Baylor was far and away the best player in the draft and the Hornets lucked out by jumping in the draft for a pick they acquired for almost nothing. Baylor looks like he will be an absolute superstar and the closest thing we have seen to Lebron James.
Grade: A+
2. Orlando Magic - K.C. Jones PG 6'1'' 200 23 B- C B- A- C A
Jones looks like he could be very good, but he isn't the type of player you'd like ideally at # 2. His offense leaves a lot to be desired and he's already 23. Considering Repole is in his CY, I probably would have opted for Twyman. Jones doesn't look like a superstar point guard in a league full of them.
Grade: B-
3. Utah Jazz - Jack Twyman SF 6'6'' 210 21 B B C+ C+ B+ A
The Jazz needed a superstar with this pick and hope they got one in Twyman. Ratings wise, Twyman looks like he will be amazing. However, I doubt he has the potential to really be an all-world player. Still, even if he has 70-80 potential, he will easily be an all-star with RC's and AC's. Just great ratings.
Grade: A
4. Denver Nuggets - Cliff Hagan SF 6'5'' 215 23 B B C+ B- B- A
A similar player to Twyman, Hagan is two years older and slightly less versatile. At the same time, he has the base to be a complete stud on the next level. He looks a lot like Kevin White did as a rookie and could be the player the Nuggets need to get to the next level.
Grade: A-
5 Milwaukee Bucks - Maurice Stokes C 6'8'' 240 22 C+ D+ D B+ A B
Though he is the obvious pick here in my opinion, ideally you'd like to get more of a two-way player with the 5th pick in the draft. Stokes will be a career-long starter--probably as a glorified Dwight Stone--but he's not the type of player you want to build around as a rebuilding team. I still can't blame Broph for picking the best player available though.
Grade: B+
6. Oklahoma City Thunder - Frank Ramsey SF 6'4'' 200 24 C+ B+ C+ A C B
Ramsey is 24, but he's got great ratings and could be a really valuable player with some attention. B- A- B- A+ C C is not totally ridiculous with some RC/AC attention, so i like this pick for Habes at # 6. Just not many great options at this point.
Grade: A
7. Atlanta Hawks - Tom Gola SF 6'6'' 205 22 B+ C B- B B B
Gola's a good player who will probably start, but his notes pretty clearly say that he has no potential. He also looks like a million other 3/4's in BBS. Considering Outlawz needs value guys for his contract year, I don't see Gola helping much.
Grade: C
8 Memphis Grizzlies - Clyde Lovellette C 6'9'' 235 26 B+ C- C- C+ B- A
Considering what is left on the board, Clyde looks to be a good pick. His notes aren't very promising (nor is his age), but Memphis needs to add some value to its team and Clyde will do just that. A great inside scorer, Lovellette will probably get some big minutes as a rookie.
Grade: B+
9. San Antonio Spurs - Mel Hutchins PF 6'8'' 222 26 C+ C C- A- C+ B
As a pick, this was a good decision by Chipper. Hutchins had great notes and he is the last player in this draft (besides the steals with big potential) who looks like he'll be able to start. He'll be a great post defender and stealer, so you've got to like that out of a PF. However, Chipper's grade reflects the horrible value he gave up for this pick.
Grade: C
10 Washington Wizards - Kenny Sears PF 6'9'' 200 22 B C- C- C+ C+ A
This guy could be decent or just average, which is better that what you can say for the majority of other prospects left. The Wizards are another team that could be rebuilding for a few years, so Sears is a nice risk.
Grade: A-
11 Washington Wizards - Al Ferrari SF 6'4'' 190 22 B C C+ B C+ B
This is a weird pick for Washington here. Inside SF's are rarely valuable unless they can really score, and Ferrari isn't that type of player. He could be a decent role player though, I guess.
Grade: B-
12 Boston Celtics - Johnny Horan PF 6'8'' 200 22 C B C C C+ A
A player with Horan's ratings rarely amount to anything unless they have huge potential. He looks like a homeless man's version of Tyrone Keane as a rookie, just without defense. He does have A potential though....something you don't see very often in this draft file.
13 New Orleans Hornets - Jim Neal C 6'11'' 235 25 C D D+ B+ A- C
You know a draft sucks when the 13th player in the draft is a 25 year old backup center and it's considered a good pick.
