Not a big fan of this year's draft. It doesn't seem as deep as last year's draft. Lots of so-so bigs most of whom will probably end up as backups, lots of sgs with decent ratings who remind me of players who never sim very well like John Jenkins and Reggie Bullock.
1. New York Knicks- JD Quincy SF 6'5'' 222 20 B C+ B- C+ C+ A
The Knicks already have Assaf Schayes at sf and would rather take a big or a pg but once Spencer named JD as the favorite to go 1st it is unlikely that someone else will go first.
2. Portland Trail Blazers- Tyrone Kemp SF 6'8'' 210 20 B- D+ B B+ B A
A great prospect. If he develops offensively he could be the best player in the draft. Good rebounder, ballhandler and passer. He steals and blocks. If he develops well he could be a franchise player. Another plus is that unlike other prospects he can't be a total bust. Even with no development other than rcs he could be a starter. Without notes a lot of people would have taken him first.
3. Toronto Raptors- Randy Sinclair PF 7'0'' 215 20 B- D+ C- B- B- A
The truth is that they need a scorer more than anything. Sinclair is the best player available but they will be tempted to reach and draft Nehemiah Harrison. Last year LaDaniel Graham scored almost 28 ppg on below average shooting %s but someone had to shoot. Lots of people wouldn't take Harrison in the lotto bc he can't play d. In the end they will go for the bpa.
4. Boston Celtics- Corey Laifer PF 6'7'' 234 24 C- D+ C A- A C
A reach? Maybe. But I would bet that 4 years from now whoever takes him will be happy with what they received. He is a zero risk pick. Elite rebounder. Great shotblocker who will get a ton of steals. Every team could use one of those.
5. Chicago Bulls (from Orlando Magic)- Koni Bruton SF 6'9'' 225 21 B D+ C- C B A
They have their bigs in place and Mccracken at sg so they will go pg or sf. The pgs in this draft don't seem to play d very much so my guess is that Play goes with a sf. Since he seems to do well with high potential players he will take Bruton over Kevin White who is a safer pick albeit with less upside.
6. Minnesota Timberwolves- Anthony Johnson PG 6'1'' 175 21 C C B+ B C+ A
Damn. The Wolves have nice young talent and 3 lotto picks. Don't really need a scorer with Jordan and Ramsey. They would love to get Laifer if he falls to here. The one thing the Wolves seem to lack is a big time rebounder. Too bad there is only one in this draft. The best rebounder left is probably Herbert Page but this is too early. Assuming that Laifer is gone they might try to move this pick. If they keep it they should take Johnson. If he develops well he could take over for Burns at pg. As I said they don't need a scorer but rather a pass first pg.
7. Atlanta Hawks- Nehemiah Harrison SG 6'2'' 190 20 B+ B+ C- D+ D- A
I never understand how the Hawks lose so many games. Another team with a ton of young talent. Even if this pick goes bust they should be ok so they might as well swing for the fences. True, Harrison can't play d and can't rebound but he can score and has a lot of upside. If he turns into an average defender he could be a future all star. Anyone else they could draft at this point would likely just back up another young player already on the loaded Hawks.
8. Golden State Warriors- Kevin White SF 6'7'' 218 19 B B- C+ B- B B
Lots of mediocre young talent who look better than they sim. White is a solid, safe choice. He looks similar to Assaf Schayes from last year's draft but with more potential. As is he could be a decent starter/6th man type. They could probably use a big more than a sf but they will be back in the lotto next year anyway and the bigs left in this draft aren't anything to write home about.
9. New York Knicks (from New Jersey Nets)- Trey Mack PG 6'2'' 199 23 C A C+ C+ D A
I like Mack. If he can shoot then not looking to pass is not so bad. Kinda worried about his mediocre defense but everyone left has some type of flaw. If he is as good a shooter as advertised that will make up for his other flaws.
10. San Antonio Spurs- Herbert Page PF 6'9'' 255 22 C+ C D+ B+ B+ B
What happened to the Spurs? Last I checked they were in the playoffs. Page is a pretty solid player. If he has a good tc he could start over Patric Young from day 1. Good rebounder, solid post defender and solid jump shot is not bad to get at the 10th spot.
11. Minnesota Timberwolves (from Oklahoma City Thunder) - Marc Nichols C 6'10'' 239 19 C+ C- C- A- B B
Somebody has to pick a center. Nichols could potentially start for the rebounding challenged Wolves. Even if he doesn't start he should see minutes off the bench as a rookie.
12. Minnesota Timberwolves (from Utah Jazz)- Stromile Storm C 7'1'' 200 19 C+ D+ A- C+ C AI don't like Storm very much but a boom or bust type of pick is just what the Wolves need. Another solid young player won't help them so they might as well take a shot. Storm is an extremely athletic big with big upside. Personally if I was getting a big that could do one thing I would rather that he scores or rebounds or plays d. Anyway, even if Storm goes bust it won't hurt the Wolves and if he goes boom it will obviously help.
13. Miami Heat- Kasumara Izawa PG 5'10'' 175 22 C B A- B D+ B
Ow. 41 wins. Won't be able to console themselves with whoever they take at 13. The truth is that the Heat are solid all over and whoever they take probably won't see much time. Paulson and Adams are both solid sg prospects but the Heat already have Gordon, Beal and Connolly. Since both of the Heat's backup pgs decided to test fa, Izawa should see some time as a backup pg.
