14. Toronto Raptors- Justin Ferguson SF 6'10'' 235 21 C+ B+ B- C+ C+ B
I have no idea how the Raptors continue to make the playoffs every year. DJ has had no shot of making it past the first round since I’ve been a GM but he continues to be good enough to make it to the playoffs. The Raptors need a replacement for Dwayne Wade. Ferguson is nice all around SF that can do the job. DJ may decide to take a risk on this pick with a guy like Vaughntavious Reed.
15. Minnesota Timberwolves (from Utah Jazz)- Jay Johnson PG 6'3'' 195 23 B- C+ A B+ D+ C
The Timberwolves are in need of a PG to get the ball to Jordan and Perkins. Johnson is the most ready PG in the draft and will help the Timberwolves start competing again as early as next year. I think Johnson could be a longterm starter in the league. He could be a steal should he slide due to scouted potential.
16. New Orleans Hornets (from San Antonio Spurs)- Amir Otemzel SF 6'6'' 233 22 B- C+ C- A C B
I mentioned Aar’s inside offense in his first pick. Otemzel is another fit for it. Otemzel also enters the league as an elite defender. If he can produce on the offensive end at all, he is worthy of this pick. Otemzel being available at 16 shows how deep this draft is.
17. Indiana Pacers- Mikel Atkins SG 6'5'' 211 23 C B+ D A C+ B
Atkins is another guy who is bbs ready. The Pacers are ready to compete so adding another guy who at worst is going to be a nice role player is a great idea. Atkins may struggle in the league because of his lack of speed and size. He has the potential to be a good fifth stater.
18. Denver Nuggets (from Portland Trailblazers)- Ramon Perry SF 6'9'' 210 22 C B- B- B+ C A
Perry could provide an immediate upgrade at backup SG/SF for the Nuggets. Terrence Jones is meh and Ben Stevens may be the most turnover prone guy in the league. One nice TC and the job could go to Perry.
19. New Orleans Hornets (from Houston Rockets)- Marquez Lynch SF 6'5'' 232 22 B C+ C A- C B
I’ve already said it twice so I’m going to use the same logic again. Lynch is another good defender and inside scorer. He fits right into Aar’s offense and team design. There are so many SFs in this draft that it is difficult to forecast where they will go after the lotto. Lynch should be of more value to teams looking to win now.
20. Denver Nuggets- Vaughntavious Reed PF 6'9'' 235 20 C+ C- C C+ A A
The Nuggets need to build a better future frontline. Reed could be a start to that. He will at least be capable of providing great rebounding from day 1. If he has descent potential he will be at least Kevin Love or Dajuan Blair. Reed could be another player that a team reaches for earlier in the draft. I wouldn't consider him in the lotto.
21. Cleveland Cavs- Rickey Francis PG 5'6'' 151 22 C B+ C C C A
Even though the Cavs are in contention now, they need to start adding pieces for the future. Francis only has C handling but has nice notes for a PG. He could be a valuable trade asset after TC or may allow the Cavs to move John Wall to SG if needed.
22. New Jersey Nets- Alan Trobow SF 6'9'' 236 22 B B C- C+ B B
I’m not going to lie. I predetermined that Trobow was going to the Nets. He is all offense and no defense. Perfect fit! Only guy who may be better is Chandler Rogers. However, he isn’t an outside shooter so he doesn't fit the Nets outside offense. Therefore, it had to be Trobow
23. Minnesota Timberwolves (from Boston Celtics)- Manny Dugan C 6'10'' 203 23 C+ C C+ B+ B- C
My draft for the Timberwolves has been an attempt to get them on a fast track to competing again. Adding the most polished big man left in Dugan continues that concept. I wouldn’t take him in the top 20 but if you need a backup big man in the longterm he should fill that need and be worth a pick at this point.
24. Miami Heat (from Oklahoma City Thunder)- Chandler Rogers SF 6'7'' 254 23 B+ C+ C C C B
So far the Heat have added their PG and SG of the future. This leaves SF as the last spot to fill. Rogers probably isn’t going to be a starter in the longterm or for a contending team, but he could be a good backup.
25. Memphis Grizzlies- Calvin Fewell SG 6'7'' 215 22 B- B+ C B- C B
The Grizzlies really just need to draft the best player available with this pick. Insane has done a good job of drafting good players late in the draft and I think Fewell would continue that trend. Fewell could see minutes as a rookie.
26. Miami Heat (from Chicago Bulls)- Johnny Telford PF 6'10'' 222 22 B- C C- B B- B
Telford has nice rookie ratings for a big man going this late. He didn’t have any notes which makes me question taking him. He is certainly worth the pick here though.
27. Philadelphia 76ers- Stephon Scott PG 6'2'' 194 22 C+ B B B- C- C
Deron is really old and Lumley doesn’t have any real options for backup PG. Scott is a major upgrade over what the 76ers have.
28. Denver Nuggets (from Milwaukee Bucks)- Eddie Dean SG 6'4'' 187 20 C+ B+ C C+ D B
Terrence Ross bailed on Denver last offseason in FA. The Nuggets seemed to like him a lot while he was there. Dean probably isn’t going to be a 20+ppg guy but he at least looks like Ross for right now. Who knows if he has a chance to be another stud shooter.
29. Miami Heat (from Phoenix Suns)- Seth Cooper C 6'11'' 303 20 B- D+ C- C+ B- C
The Heat have a lot of picks at the end of this draft. I’d probably forfeit the last one so I didn’t get stuck with three bad rookie contracts. If Pig decides to draft someone, Cooper is the last guy left who had notes. I'm not a fan of him but there isn't a lot I'd look at right now.
