14) Dallas Mavericks- Andrew Nielsen C 7'3'' 290 21 B- C+ C- B+ C B
Kaman is near the end of his career and the Mavs don’t have any young talent upfront. They would be thrilled if Nielsen fell to them here. He is a great fit and good value at 14.
15) New Orleans Hornets-Marko Murray SG 6'3'' 210 22 C+ A C+ C C- B
The Hornets should be a team on the rise. The frontcourt already looks very complete so gambling on another shooter is worth the risk here. If Murray turns out to be a starter, the Hornets could consider running an outside focus with Walker and Hayward already on the roster. However, the nice players the Hornets already have up front will likely prevent this. The team may opt for a defensive minded backup SG/SF. I see Aar trading this pick unless someone slips.
16) Indiana Pacers (from Orlando Magic)- Damian Drake C 6'11'' 240 22 C+ C+ D+ B C+ B
Drake is a bit of a reach at this point, but the Pacers need reach for a big at this point. The team has no big men prospects for the future and plenty on the wings. Drake could also fit an outside offense which the Pacers may consider running with the talent they have collected.
17) Toronto Raptors-Alex Lovell SG 6'5'' 200 19 C C+ C+ B- C A
Since Wiggins appears to be a bust, the Raptors aren’t going to have what it takes to make a title run with the current roster. Gambling on an “extremely raw” prospect could really pay off if he turns out to be good. If Lovell turns out to be a bust, the Raptors can still rebuild since DJ doesn't move his own picks.
18) Houston Rockets-Trenton Bailey PG 6'3'' 188 20 C B B A- C B…
The Rockets could easily need a backup PG with Rivers and Brooks both becoming FAs this offseason. Bailey should at least be an adequate backup for them in the near future. He could easily go earlier in the draft because of his ratings.
19) Houston Rockets (from Los Angeles Lakers)- Alf Sjoberg C 7'0'' 290 19 B- C+ D+ C A- B
This guy is definitely a career backup at best. If the Rockets can’t add a SF by next season, they will need more big men. Sjoberg is the best big man left IMO and provides a unique skill set that could be beneficial the right team.
20) New Jersey Nets (from Minnesota Timberwolves)- Barret Barker SG 6'4'' 215 22 C+ B+ C- B C B
The Nets continue to add talent across the board. Barker could be the third starter they have drafted in just this draft! Should Barker develop much he will at least be a good backup on a contender.
21) New Jersey Nets (from Denver Nuggets)- Lorenzo Bunn PF 6'9'' 237 22 B+ C C C+ C B
I don’t like the guys notes at all but someone will gamble on him at this point in the draft. Nets can use another big body. I'd worry about the majority of this guys inside being from his jumping ability though.
22) Los Angeles Clippers (from Boston Celtics)-J.L. Lacroix PG 6'2'' 185 21 B- C B- C C A
The Clippers do not have a PG of the future so gambling on a guy like Lacroix cannot hurt at this point in the draft. He could very well be a sleeper in this draft. I wouldn't be surprised if someone gambled on him in the late teens.
23) Milwaukee Bucks (from New York Knicks)- forfeit
Unless the Bucks really like a player here, it would be in their best interests to forfeit the pick. The team will already 12 players under contract for next season and will need to use the remaining spots to get movable contracts for trades.
24) Dallas Mavericks (from Philadelphia 76ers)-Chuck Doston C 7'0'' 320 23 C D D+ B B+ B
Even with the addition of Nielsen, the Mavs need to add more young big men. Dotson may not have any draft notes but he has intriguing ratings. If the guy has shot blocking ability he is a total steal at this point.
25) Cleveland Cavs (from Miami Heat)-Blake Owens SF 6'7'' 250 22 B C C B C+ C
The Cavs already drafted a young prospect at SF. Taking a more developed Owens here to hold over the position for a season or two until Overgaard can step in may be a smart move. At this point in the draft I think it makes a lot of sense to try and draft role guys.
26) Los Angeles Clippers (from Phoenix Suns)-Terrence Caltepper PF 6'7'' 235 21 B- D+ C+ B B- C
Another prospect without notes that has some intriguing ratings. He is worth a pick this late in round 1. The Clippers may gamble on one of the guys with poor ratings and A potential though.
27) Charlotte Bobcats-Cris Kemp PG 5'6'' 168 22 C B- C B C- A
The Bobcats will only have one more year of Ty Lawson at backup. Kemp provides them with a possible replacement for a couple of seasons from now. He is definitely worth a pick now if you are looking for a backup PG
28) Cleveland Cavs (from Chicago Bulls)- Battaile Skinner SG 6'6'' 218 22 C B C- B+ C C
Another guy who can help the Cavs stay competitive for the next season or two until its time to rebuild or hope Overgaard is the real deal. One of the guys the Cavs take with these picks needs to be a contributor. It would really suck to have two bad rookies for 4 years if these picks aren't used wisely by the Cavs. I'd consider forfeiting one of the picks for that reason.
29) Memphis Grizzlies- Donnie Boyer C 6'11'' 226 20 B- C- D B- C+ B
The Grizzlies really don't have a weakness. Okafor is FA so they could look to draft a big. Boyer could become a descent backup if he has any potential or with some RC/AC attention.
